Everything in the Shadowlands Pre-Patch 9.0.1 - Scourge Invasion, Leveling Revamp, Class Changes

The PvP trinket Honor Talents (Gladiator’s Medallion, Adaptation, and Relentless) are being removed. In Shadowlands, you must purchase a trinket, using currency acquired through PvP, to get these effects.

Some higher ranks of abilities, as well as returning iconic abilities like Power Infusion, won't be available in the pre-patch as they are unlocked as you level from 51 to 60.

Some classes may feel incomplete in the pre-patch as they are missing legendary powers, covenant abilities, soulbind perks, and conduits all coming at Shadowlands launch.

Hunter Pets

There are three new hunter pet families: Courser (horses and unicorns), Mammoth (Ice Mammoths and Elekks), and Camel (includes Alpacas).

Many pet species have been added to past families including giraffes to Stags, pythons to Serpents, and Hell Hounds to Hounds.

Players can pick up How to School Your Serpent to tame Cloud Serpents across Pandaria, including Huolon and Tsulong.

Newcomer Mentor System

Complete the achievement 3000 Quests Completed

Complete at least two of the following achievements:
Terrific Trio - Reach maximum level with three different classes

Rival: Battle for Azeroth Season 4 - Earn the rank of Rival during Battle for Azeroth Season 4.

Battle for Azeroth Keystone Conqueror: Season Four - Complete all Battle for Azeroth Season Four dungeons at Mythic Level 10 or higher, within the time limit.

The Waking Dream - Defeat the Carapace of N'Zoth and N'Zoth the Corruptor encounters in Ny'alotha, the Waking City.

We Have the Technology - Purchase all research items in the Titanic Research Archive.

Leveling RevampShadowlands

Experience is removed from heirlooms, which are now part of an item set with new utility bonuses.

Stats on all gear have been reduced with the item level squish.

For the first time, characters will undergo a level squish, with 120 characters going down to level 50.

There is a brand-new leveling experience for first-time players: Exile's Reach.

While most races will begin life at level 1, Death Knights and Demon Hunters start at level 8 and Allied Races begin at level 10.

When leveling from 10-50, you will choose to level in a specific expansion through a new system called Chromie Time / Timewalking Journeys. You will not progress through multiple continents, as in past expansions.

Night Elves have a "Teldrassil" burn option as well as vine decorations for their hair and marking colors separated out from hair color.

Undead have pink hair options and the ability to hide bones.

Orcs have several layers of scars, tattoos, and war paint.

Draenei have different tail lengths and dozens of new jewelry colors.

Worgen can customize their human form separately from their worgen form.

Void Elves can access blue eyes and all the skin tones of Blood Elves, for a High Elf appearance.

Dwarves have numerous tattoo options, including Wildhammer appearances.

Tauren can wear flowers with their new hairstyles.

Humans have a large variety of facial features to represent the diversity in the real world.

Most races now have a bald option.

You can change your gender at the barbershop instead of using a paid service.

Druids can customize their racial form tints via the barbershop instead of the tints being tied to their hair color.

Druids can also select Bear and Cat forms from Legion Artifacts via the barbershop, instead of being tied to weapon transmog.

Aquatic, Travel, and Flight Form appearances from glyphs as well as Fandral's Flamescythe are also accessible through the barbershop.

The UI for the barbershop uses the same updated graphics as the character creation screen, including color swatches for skin and hair color.

Transmog Improvements

Mages and Warlocks can transmog wands to daggers and swords.

Priests can transmog wands to 1H maces and daggers.

Artifact appearances for all specs of your class are now available in the appropriate weapon categories.

You can transmog any Artifact appearance from your class, as long as it follows normal weapon transmog rules (i.e. 1-hand to 1-hand, 2-hand to 2-hand, etc).

You can mix and match the appearance of different Artifacts now, having your Main-Hand and Off-hand from different appearances, or from completely different Artifacts.

The Artifact transmog interface is being retained so you can still transmog your own spec Artifact weapons over whatever weapons you are using.

Gamepad support is coming, allowing players to assign key binds to various console controllers.

For players that suffer from motion sickness, accessibility options to control camera shake and motion sickness are coming.

Ray Tracing Support is coming for higher shadow quality.

Battle Pet Ability Changes

Several impactful Battle Pet abilities will be changed in the pre-patch, leading to new strategies to defeat tamers. These include Hunting Party, Flock and similar abilities, Twilight Meteorite, Jar of Smelly Liquid, Righteous Inspiration, and Ancient Knowledge.

Several pets have had their stats changed as well, including Cinder Kitten and Mechanical Cockroach.

Have they explained why they aren't disabling Azertie traits/essences in pre-patch like they did the Legion weapons?
It seems really odd to me, your class is going to play differently because of the various changes but it'll change again, maybe only slightly but it'll still be different, once SL releases and players get to those zones.

Kind of bummed out about the Mentor requirements. I've been playing since classic but have barely played BFA. I know enough about the game and it's systems to be a mentor but because I haven't achieved everything on that list like the Rival title. Sure my PVP knowledge is lacking but I have over a decade of PVE experience. Oh well.

The non-pvp unicorns being able to fly i can sort of get because they come from otherworldly places, but why the prestigious coursers too? They seem to just be the typical Broken Isles mounts so should really be ground mounts only.

For the appearance with Fandral's Flamescythe, does this mean if I have it in my transmog collection, I can use it?
I've been farming the seed on my Druid with no luck. He has the staff appearance transmog, but not the staff itself. (must've sold it not knowing what it was waaay back.) Will I be able to use the Flame Kitty appearance?
(my life has been made if I can, lol.)

While testing out the new cloud serpent taming, I wanted to see if my new serpent would attack prey in the air the way my gryphon will. Only one of the gryphons will do this, it's either Whirlwing or Avalanche- and only in the Spirit Companion role. regular summon flaps, but stays grounded. Neither of the serpents I tamed would do so, whether summoned or as spirit companion. Curious, I swapped out to place my gryphon back into spirit companion roll... and to my great sadness, he is now grounded as well. So much for a beast that would assault dragons in flight. :( Crossing my fingers that this is just weird pre-patch PTR behavior, and he'll return to his flapping after launch, but I'm not holding my breath.

Why are you rewarding participation in season four only? What happens to those, that played in season 1, 2 and 3?

I took a break from wow in season four and now i feel so betrayed seeing mounts, titles and "guide-role" only being giving to participants in season four. I did mythic plus 10 in season 2 and 3, back when they were much harder than current season with courroption (dps determent on rng, grind and participation, rather than skill, :/)

What is going on?

It feels awful and bad that this had to be said you shouldn't be designing classes to only work with borrowed power classes should be complete and all that should be extra on top people argue and complain about it every xpac because it feels bad and seems like we just get weaker and weaker as the years go on

The scourge event will be fun. I was around for the WotLK event. It made leveling alts a nightmare for a while but so much fun on how whole groups pf players got together to just race across a zone. I still have screen shots of the horde of undead coming for me.

I am also looking forward to getting old abilities back and the new leveling squish. Will be a blast to see just how everything affects the game play going forward!

I have been ignoring as many spoilers as possible with Shadowlands (very hard to do) but allowed myself to read all about the pre-patch and I am most hyped for the Chromie levelling revamp and squish.

I was an altoholic back in WotLK - Cata and never made it to end game as I wanted to do all of the quests in each zone, got bored, started new character and repeat. Because of this, on my return in Legion pre-patch I swore to have one character only and do everything available to an end game character. I've been enjoying it and my achievements/collections are growing but I think four years and the overhaul is a good time to add a few more characters to the mix to enjoy both sides of the story and get a new perspective other than damage dealing.

Definitely excited for the mentor system. Been trying to act as a mentor for new players for some time and always help whenever i get asked and have the time to. WoW needed a system like that so helpful players can actually help new players and new players don't risk asking someone toxic and get a troll answer (If that makes sense, i don't really know how to explain is better sorry :P )

The new customization options are also one of my most wanted features. All my characters have felt like copies of other players and new options were really needed in the game, the customization options were really limited before. I hope they add more options as SL launches with the patches.

I'm definitely the most excited for the customization for my favorite races. Coming in close second for the marksmanship changes, much needed and hopefully they'll be tuned right to make mm shine again. The Venthyr's Flayed Shot has a lot of synergy with the spec's rotation and it'll feel good, although i want to bring my hunter to the Night Fae covenant because she's a night elf T_T

I'm in agreement with the sentiment of "Too many things to like"
- I'm interested in the leveling squish, as the grind of so much content/time was a huge deterrent for me to get multiple classes/retain more than one max level character
- All the customization changes! I'm a NElf DK Main, but the druid changes and the transmog rule changes (Wands! I've always loved their looks, but rarely had them be competitive gear items!) have me so excited, too.
- I am ALWAYS stoked for expansion events, this one is no different. Despite being a heartbroken Sylvanas fan, I'm particularly looking forward to punching Nathanos in his obnoxious face (but also the catch up gear from one of my favorite expansions is exciting too; my first "I was active AND max level AND raiding" expansion was WotLK)

More than anything, I'm looking forward to playing with the new character customizations. In most games, I spend a good hour getting a new character just right, but all my wow chars have been pretty static since...well, since forever.

My mage looks the same as she did when I created her...back in like 2004, iirc.

For me, definitely removing exalted reputations from Allied races.

I have all but the BFA Horde ones because I just couldn't want to deal with the reputation requirements. I don't mind the questing requirements at all, but reputation grinding (even with double rep) just doesn't cut it for me...

Sure I have a Level 50 (was 120) Blood Elf, and Vol'dun completed, but I do not want to deal with the reputation as of now. And I wouldn't mind since I still have to do Horde's side of the War Campaign to get the Mag'har Orcs and Zandalari Trolls, anyways.

I'm really excited about the new leveling system. It will be fun to experience a whole expansion while you're leveling and not just little bits from zones and then move on to the next continent.

I'm looking forward to all the new customization options the most. The excitement reminds me of back in WoD (Forgot this was WoD until I just looked it up now) when they announced all the character updates. This is not quite on that level, but it almost feels like it considering all the new options and hairstyles to choose from. I will probably make new alts for every race just to test out all the new stuff over the prepatch until Shadowlands drops. Maybe I will find some new alt-mains!

What about heritage armor on max leveld alles races? Is rerolled my Rogue tot void elf (didn't want to lvl) but will i get the heritage armor in lvl 50 or not?

Character Creation Screen... All this time and we still won't get a new 'Character SELECTION Screen'?

They could import the layout of the creation one, separating each faction if needed be, but would make it at least easier for Altoholics like me :P

if only they'd allow dagger to one hand transmog . . . I just . . . wanna use dagger aesthetics on my outlaw rogue! Makes no sense cause fist weapons can go over swords axes and maces, why not daggers? Why not, Blizzard?

I still can't even log into the game, it's saying character not found and I've tried all of mine, cleared my cache and even updated my drivers, been trying al days and no luck.

it's funny how void elf it's not classified as allied race it gets a separate section as core races

Might also want to add that you cant use the dungeon finder or the raid finder really until you maxed out.
the dungeon finder will only allow you do to do the new Zaldazar dungeons , so good luck if you have a quest in a dungeon at your level trying to find a group.
Same with Raids- how are we to do the old raids as we are leveling up? it was hard enough even with dungeon finder.

Leveling is very rough at the start, most classes don't get their ability until multiple levels later. (ie devastate for warriors or swipe for bear druid)

This guide doesn't tell you when the undead event happens and when you have all that sweet gear dropping in icecrown zone or nathanos being a world boss
