Shadowlands Zereth Mortis Rares and Treasures - Locations, Notable Loot

By Neryssa Updated: 2025/11/09

Why Should I Find Rares and Treasures

Rares are a good daily source of Cyphers of the First Ones and Cosmic Flux - These are used for the Cypher of the First Ones system and to fuel the Creation Catalyst/Legendary crafting.
In addition to this, killing rares in Zereth Mortis also grants reputation with The Enlightened—10 to 15 reputation per Rare per day.

Cosmic Flux

Killing 10 rares (Adventures in Zereth Mortis) and finding 5 treasures (Curious Collections) are part of the Unlocking the Secrets meta achievement, which unlocks flying in Zereth Mortis.

Killing all rares (Adventurer of Zereth Mortis) and finding all treasures (Treasures of Zereth Mortis) are part of the From A to Zereth meta achievement, the endgame achievement for Zereth Mortis, which gives the Cryptic Aurelid mount.

Rare

Location

Special Drop

Note

Gluttonous Overgrowth

/way 52.6 93.2

Enlightened Botanist's Machete
Perennial Punching Dagger

Rare will initially be rooted to the ground and immune to attacks. Locate 4 roots by the bushes near the rare and pull these roots off to uproot the rare and make it attackable.

Otiosen

/way 43.8 87.4

Ambystan Lattice

Neutral until attacked. Has an AoE stun (Paralytic Spew) followed by a large heal (Regenerate), make sure you dodge the stun to interrupt the heal.

Feasting

/way 62.0 60.6

Vespoid Lattice

Flies around the Doning Precipice area before landing at the coordinate spot. Lays eggs that eventually spawn into adds. Eggs can be stepped on to break them.

Destabilized Core

/way 53.6 44.6

Unformed Lattice

Not too hard to beat, but has some nasty AoE attacks that have to be dodged.

Sand Matriarch Ileus

/way 53.2 47.2

Scarabid Lattice

Burrows away at 50% health and will stay burrowed until the 3 spawned Scarabid Imago are killed.

Xy'rath the Covetous

/way 64.0 49.6

Xy'rath's Signature Saber
Xy'rath's Booby-Trapped Cache

Can be a tough one to solo, make sure to dodge Illusory Assault and kick Stolen Knowledge. Has a small leash zone; kiting it too far from the platform it stands at will cause the Rare to evade.

Akkaris

/way 64.8 33.8

Sandworn Relic

Can be found atop a pile of sand, tortured by two Elite Mawsworn units. It can be a hard fight, due to its immediate area being surrounded by Elite Mawsworn mobs.

Chitali the Eldest

/way 50.8 66.8

Cervid Lattice
Chitali's Command

Roams around the spawn area. A good idea to kite it away from the Cervids near its spawn area, to avoid the damage increase from Alert the Herd.

Tahkwitz

/way 49.0 37.2

Raptora Lattice

Rare can only be reached with abilities like Door of Shadows, until the teleporters in Resonant Peaks are opened on Chapter 6 of the Campaign, or you become able to fly. If using the teleporters, teleport to Ultimus Locus and glide down to the rare.

Rare has two dangerous abilities due to the height you engage it in: Clutching Swoop has the rare bring you high up in the air and knock you down, and Cosmic Buffet can drop you off the platform the rare is at.

Sorranos

/way 35.8 70.8

Vombata Lattice
Formula: Cosmic Protoweave

Not a difficult rare, but can be hard to find alive, due to its spawn location being close to Haven.

Orixal

/way 56.4 68.2

Helicid Lattice

Shares a spawn with Overgrown Helicid, if Orixal isn't up, kill the Overgrown Helicid a few times until he spawns.

Euv'ouk

/way 47.6 45.4

One of the more dangerous Rares to solo. Make sure to interrupt or dispel Cosmic Spark.

Vitiane

/way 47.2 47.2

One of the more dangerous Rares to solo. Make sure to avoid Echoing Slam and interrupt Dreadful Pulse.

Hadeon the Stonebreaker

/way 52.2 26.0

Scarabid Lattice

One of the easier Rares to solo. Careful with stacks of Debilitating Headbutt and avoid Subterranean Eruptions once the rare burrows down.

General Zarathura

/way 60.0 20.8

Glimmer of Malice
Sandworn Relic

One of the more dangerous Rares to solo. Kill player copies it summons with Army of Deceit and avoid Carrion Swarm, Commanding Stomp, and Sweeping Calamity.

Gorkek

/way 76.6 44.8

Bufonid Lattice

Only reachable after completing Chapter 4 of the 9.2 Campaign and unlocking the Sepulcher of the First Ones translocator. It can spawn in multiple locations across the island. Walk away from Tongue Lash to prevent stacks. Spams Play Dead when low on health—make sure to interrupt.

Tethos

/way 54.4 72.8

Geomental Lattice

Make sure to dodge Earthquake and interrupt/CC Stone Bolt.

Shifting Stargorger

/way 43.0 21.2

Scorpid Soul

Make sure to interrupt/CC Consume Vitality as it is a large heal.

Protector of the First Ones

/way 39.6 26.6

Revelation Key
Protoform Sentience Crown

Requires two players to get past the barrier leading to the rare. Find runes that match the two consoles near the barrier, have each player collect a rune, and stand next to the consoles to dispel the barrier.

Mother Phestis

/way 54.2 34.8

Tarachnid Lattice
Sandworn Relic

Located inside a cave. Spawns eggs that must be stepped on so they don't spawn minor adds.

Garudeon

/way 68.6 37.0

Raptora Lattice
Sandworn Relic

Rare is initially not attackable. Locate three Energizing Leporid by the rare spawn area, loot Energizing Leporid from them, and feed them to the 3 smaller Raptora with them to activate the rare.

Furidian

/way 64.4 58.6

Viperid Lattice

Find the Suspiciously Angry Vault in the spawn area. The Vault will be surrounded by three keys. Find the keys also nearby the area and bring them to the vault to unlock it and spawn the rare.

Hirukon

/way 51.6 73.9

Deepstar Polyp
Helicid Lattice
Hirukon's Radiant Reach

Located underwater, requires fishing with an Aurelid Lure to pull.

To obtain the Aurelid Lure, fish a Strange Goop (low drop chance) from the pool Hirukon is standing at, then bring it to Baroness Vashj in Maldraxxus. Vashj will tell you she can craft the special lure by getting her more fish:

Pungent Blobfish can be fished in a Pungent Blobfish Cluster inside the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh.
Flipper Fish is initially fished in a Flipper Fish School in Zin-Azshari, Nazjatar - Once you fish one, it'll slip from your inventory, and you must loot it as it flops around to obtain the fish.
Coilclutch Vine is looted from a balcony in Nar'shola Terrace in Vashj'ir, on the second level of the runs. It's extremely hard to see, as it is a green vine on top of a green graphic.

Once you have all items, bring them back to Vashj for her to craft the lure. With the lure in hand, return to Hirukon's spot in Zereth Mortis and use it; you will see an Aurelid Cluster that wasn't there beforehand. Fish at the cluster and Hirukon will emerge.

Zatojin

/way 43.6 32.8

Vespoid Lattice

Rare is initially flying high in the air and unattackable. To trigger the rare, aggro nearby Menacing Vespoid Worker and let them cast Paralytic Sting on you. Once Paralytic Sting reaches 20 stacks, you will become Paralyzed! for 6 seconds, and the rare will fly down to attack you.

Otaris the Provoked

/way 58.6 40.0

Protoform Sentience Crown

Located inside a cave. Kill the two Elites channeling at the rare to trigger it. Both Elites and Rare have a big health pool, making this tough to solo. Dodge Reverberating Stomp and Sweeping Blast.

Corrupted Architect

/way 47.6 63.0

Hammer of Shattered Works
Protoform Sentience Crown

Kill the two Mawsworn channeling at the rare to trigger it.

Helmix

/way 59.2 68.6

Glimmer of Discovery

Rare has a chance to spawn each time an Annelid mob is killed in the surrounding spawn area. Rare is actually three mobs that share a health pool. Easily killed with AoE attacks. Burrows at 50%, dodge Mired Spray and interrupt Ancient Nova.

Vexis

/way 39.6 57.6

Lupine Lattice
Vexis' Wisest Fang

Can be tough to kill with the extra Lupines summoned via Wolf Hunt. Kill these, or the Rare can easily overwhelm you.

The Engulfer

/way 44.2 75.2

Anima-Siphoning Sword

Rare is initially not in the area. Locate The Matriarch and protect her from waves of Devourers. After 2 waves, the rare will spawn as the final wave of the mini event.

You may want to correct the opening paragraph. It still says "There are several reasons to kill rares and events in Korthia and Desmotaeron:". Looks like a copy/paste error.

Missing Iska/Rhuv with the mount drop

Comment by Emerno

The front page's "NOTABLE ZERETH MORTIS RARES" has already been wrong twice in a row. Also a list of rares NOT spawning on a given day is probably more useful than a list of rares that ARE spawning. Thanks! :)

Comment by Bitterst

Helmix is available everyday, it just needs to be force spawned by killing the worms in the area (possibly?), but definitely the single worm at it's spawn point. I've killed it 7 days in a row now.
