Best Cooking Ingredient Farming Spots - WoW Classic

Why Farm Cooking Ingredients?FishFarming Information

Name of the ingredient

Mob Level Range: This lists the level of the mobs you will need to farm for this ingredient (or will have to contend with to get to it).

Mobs: If there are specific mobs you have to target or handle, this will list them. If it's large numbers of the same type of mob, this will list the general mob type, and the notes will describe where to find them. If an easy description isn't possible, maps are provided.

Zones: This lists the primary zones where the ingredient can be farmed. It doesn't list every possibility -- just the best places, based on drop rates or where the corresponding recipe is farmed, purchased, or quested. This can also help you decide whether it's worth going after the recipe -- for example, if the ingredients are inconvenient to get due to being in the opposite faction. Since there isn't an achievement system in Classic that "counts" recipes you collect or cook, you might decide your level 50 Horde character doesn't really need to make Westfall Stew after all.

Raptor Egg

Mob Level Range: 22-37

Mobs: Raptors

Zones: Wetlands, Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale

Farming Tips: Ask any veteran player where to get Raptor Eggs and 9 times of 10 they'll say "Stranglethorn". But Stranglethorn is so busy and overcamped for my tastes and has far fewer places to get them. I much prefer Arathi Highlands and have been known to pop down into Wetlands for some raptor farming, even as a Horde player. Arathi doesn't have much biodiversity, but there are more than enough raptors to keep a farmer busy. Cooking Recipes:

Young MoonkinFarming Tips: Although Duskwood is an Alliance zone, it's relatively easy for Horde to get there and stay out of trouble, at least on PvE servers. The Moonkin are located enough away from Auberdine that you don't have to worry about guards. It's more compact than hunting Swoops in Mulgore, which certainly works but they're far more spread out. These are my personal favorite source for farming Small Eggs. Cooking Recipes:

White Spider Meat

Mob Level Range: 35-39 (35-45)
Mobs: Spiders
Zones: Dustwallow Marsh

Dustwallow Marsh has the greatest concentration of spiders that drop White Spider Meat, with most of them in the upper 2/3 of the zone. They are everywhere so they are not difficult to find.

Farming Tips: Both Alliance and Horde can pick up the quest Soothing Spices from "Swamp Eye" Jarl at a small hut in northeastern Dustwallow Marsh (bring 3 Soothing Spices with you if you want to be proactive and save yourself an unnecessary trip). This leads to Jarl Needs Eyes, which has you collecting Spider Eyes.

Be sure to check his side yard (western side) for a suspicious pile of Loose Dirt at 55,26; ; this opens up a secret quest line, starting with The Orc Report or The Lost Report. It's much better for the Horde than the Alliance, ending with a blue-quality ring for Horde.

Spider Sausage: Cooking Trainer

Zesty Clam Meat

Mob Level Range: 40-45
Mobs: Turtles, Threshers, Makrura, Murlocs, Naga
Zones: Tanaris, Dustwallow Marsh, Swamp of Sorrows

Zesty Clam Meat is found inside Big-mouth Clam.

Since both the cooking quest and the recipe are sold in Tanaris, it's logical to start there. The targets here are Steeljaw Snapper and Surf Glider along the eastern coastal beaches -- however, you may face competition from skinners targeting them for Turtle Scale. If you find this overcamped, you can relocate to Dustwallow Marsh.

In Dustwallow Marsh, your camp will consist of three major targets: Threshers, Makrura, and Turtles. These are found primarily in the bays between Theramore and the mainland. Levels progress from 39 in the northern part of the bay to 43 in the southern section.

See Dustwallow Marsh Big Clam Farming on Map

If you really want to go somewhere completely different, the Murlocs and Crawlers along the eastern shoreline of Swamp of Sorrows is also a good farm, if somewhat distant from the action. Horde mages with a self-port to Stonard might consider this as a less-camped alternative.

Farming Tips: The real farming opportunity for Zesty Clam Meat isn't just with the recipe -- 10 will be needed by every cook who wishes to progress past 225 Cooking. Traditionally this is a decent money farm. Consider selling them in the neutral Auction House for those without the foresight to bring the ingredients with them to Gadgetzen. I also post a few stacks of 20 Fine Aged Cheddar and Alterac Swiss as well for those unprepared souls willing to pay for the convenience.

How is this gold making guide ?

Comment by 123user

Cool overview!

While farming Cooking ingredients is not a particularly lucrative endeavor for the most part, it is interesting and educational to browse through a thorough overview of all ingredients and their sources. While I think the question "How is this a gold making guide?" is somewhat valid, I wouldn't categorize this guide as anything else, as it's literally about sourcing trade goods through grinding that can be sold or used. It isn't a profession guide, and it even omits Fishing loot. Sure, a good chunk of these ingredients are worth almost nothing (many of them are literally sold at below vendor price in the AH), but some of them are surprisingly lucrative. Ultimately, it is the reader who must decide what they wish to farm, and this list provides you the perfect list of Cooking ingredients to peruse through.

I do have a few corrections to offer, though:

Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops only comes with the introduction of Ahn'Qiraj, which is Phase 5 instead of 4.
Wrong item linked in place of Recipe: Roast Raptor under the section for Raptor Flesh.
Wrong item linked in place of Recipe: Spiced Chili Crab under the section for Tender Crab Meat.
Under Tender Crocolisk Meat, be is misspelled as b, ("will not b the easiest")
Under Tiger Meat, Gurubashi is misspelled as Guburashi.
Wrong item linked in place of Thick-shelled Clam under the section for Turtle Meat.
Extra semicolon after coordinates ("55,26; ;") under White Spider Meat.

Note: I may have missed other minor typos since I wasn't reading with the greatest of care, but I think the factual errors are worth fixing. I'm using Wowhead Classic (where this guide is found) and I think some of these wrong links are due to edits made using the retail database.
