Options for Alternative Power used for example in fights like Carapace and N'Zoth or in Visions of N'Zoth to display sanity.

Some more Blizzard UI Improvements like height and auto-hide for the Objective Frame and Chat Bubbles style.

Here you can fully customize your ActionBars, Stance Bar, Micro Bar, and ExtraActionButton.

You will find options to change their size, font, mouseover options, action paging, and much more.

ElvUI offers your 10! ActionBars instead of just 6 like in Blizzards UI.

Those are the options for your Bank, Bag, and Bag-Bar. You can change almost every part of them, some examples: Size, Fonts, Colors, Auto-Sell grays, and junk.

The ElvUI Bank and Bags have a search bar by default if you are looking for specific items!

This part is about the Buffs and Debuffs near the minimap, like in Blizzard's default UI.

You will find a toggle to enable/disable them. You can change their size, set up how many should be displayed and you can also enable the option Masque Support to allow the addon Masque to handle their skin.

By default, ElvUI comes with two chat panels (left and right). Here you will find many options to customize them.

You can edit each window separately and also hide one or both, change its size, font, etc.

The ElvUI CD text module is highly customizable in terms of colors, style, fonts, thresholds, and much more.

Some players like to compare the module to the addon OmniCC, with more options!

DataBars means XP Bar, Reputation Bar, Honor Bar, and Azerite Bar. You will find many options to customize them like text format, fill orientation, and toggles like mouseover or "Hide At Max Level".

Those are the little information bars below your chat windows and you can customize them here to display whatever you want.

For example FPS/MS, Durability, Bag slots, Gold, and many many more cool information panels!

Your mouseover tooltip window displays information as you hover over items or players/NPCs.

You can anchor it to your mouse or a fixed position on the screen and also set up an auto-hide during combat and much more!

Unitframes is the biggest module of them, here you will find all options for your player and target frame as well as the raid frames, etc.

ElvUI separates them into two categories: Individual Units such as player, target, pet, and focus, and Group Units such as party, raid, tank, assist, arena, and boss frames.

Available Tags are what you use in ElvUI to customize your displayed text on different frames like the player frame.

This list is a full overview with descriptions of all tags you can use in any "Text Format" or "Custom Text" box while editing your UnitFrames or NamePlates.

Some examples: displays the name. displays mana, energy, rage, etc. displays the level.

Here you can edit your Aura (Buffs/Debuffs) filters.

For example, you can add spell IDs or names to a blacklist or whitelist if you want to hide or show those specific spells on a frame.

I will include a comprehensive guide for aura filters in the links at the end.

Are you playing different specs/roles and want to copy some specific elements over to your other profiles?

No problem, with the module control of ElvUI you can copy everything over to your other profiles with a few clicks.

i have been using ELVUI for quite a while (3+ Years) and the one feature i would like to see but am surprised it is not there is a save option. not the use another characters layout, because if i use a profile for a different character and make changes for that on another character it saves those changes to all characters using that profile. i want to setup a layout i like to use as a core setup and then save it and make minor changes per character. My example is i am using Benikui bars and i listing attributes that this character uses (Int, Crit, Haste) and then change to another character and change them to (Agi, Mastery, Haste) it changes it to the latest changed Stats.
So in short Make a save button so you can save your profile with whatever name you want.

Been wanting to try Elvui for years, but either too intimidated to try or too lazy to redo addons for all my characters. Your guide has finally pushed me to do it for BFA!

Comment by 1810488

I was wondering if there is anything similar to a healbot type of function?

Comment by 1935099

Thank you so much for putting so much effort into a detailed guide of this UI. I was deciding whether downloading it would be worth it to my gameplay experience, and this guide made me feel extremely confident in doing so. Wonderful work!

Comment by Oswaldovzki

I really enjoy ElvUI when I'm doing end content like Raids and Mythic Dungeons. The Interface really helps. But, for everyday content, I like the standard UI. Also, this guide is INCREDIBLE!

Comment by Repooc

As one of ElvUI addon's dev (Shadow & Light), I def agree with Mera that this guide is amazing and glad to see such a in-depth guide. Keep up the great work!

Comment by rm03060

Great Guide. Thanks for taking the time to upload it.

Comment by dysmal

I absolutely love the depth of customization that is available in ElvUi. The ability to set modules to mouseover and/or enable/disable allows someone like me that really likes a minimalistic layout to have all of the bells and whistles, but only when I need them (and quickly).

Comment by linsomniap

You can add ElvUI_QuestXP to the plugin list in 6.2 as it was implemented into ElvUI's codebase.

I love this guide but no where can I see how to change my minimap button bar. Before this last patch I had a nice bar for all my minimap buttons and now I have little circles all over my minimap and I can't find any where to change this back.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, I am sure this is a great addon, and I have downloaded it on my laptop, but for crying out loud the text is too damn small for my 58 year old eyes; it is putting a strain on them, as I am having to squint! How do I make all the text bigger so I can actually read the damn thing?

Update: I had to go to another website to find out the info I needed. After having resizing the fonts nd trying to rearrange all the boxes and buttons, I really don't like this addon. I am going to delete it and use something else that is more user friendly.

Is there a way to use Blizzard's objective/quest log instead of ELVUI's? I find the current interface difficult to use.

** This reply might really be the start of a new thread, but it would seem to be of particular interest to the ElvUI addon community ... and this comment is intended for the reply to be moderated accordingly **

Due to the way many new or updated addons throw LUA errors I usually disable (or toggle off/on) the display of LUA error messages via one or more macros used in-game.

Is there a dependable method of generating a summary of the LUA errors that have occurred since the last time the UI was loaded? The summary could be a simple table with the addon (module) name and number of errors it has thrown, sorted by error count in descending order. That would let a person figure out which addon or module thereof was causing the most errors, then deal with the worst offenders first.

What I am looking for is the sort of debugging tool that has been very commonly used in conjunction with serious compilers and interpreters for decades; generally included with a programming language package (or IDE which supports one or more programming or scripting languages) since the late 1980s, earlier where software for pre-microcomputer systems is concerned. More elaborate, configurable versions of such debugging tools started appearing with optimizing compilers for somewhat obvious reasons.

There are lots of popular software programs similar to WoW in that they allow for the creation and use of addons, that addon-level debugging tools often exist for these programs, at the LUA-code level in the case of WoW addons. It is clearly helpful to know when the LUA errors are coming from built-in addons after a significant change to WoW has required popular 3rd-party addons (read: the kind that exist for at least a few years including at least one new WoW game expansion). Sometimes, after a major change in the game, some of the errors end up being due to things Blizzard has to fix -- or not -- which made dealing with non-Blizzard addons right after such big changes a pointless waste of time. Unfortunately, the WoW Betas and even PTRs do not seem to give much advance warning to addon developers or players who use several addons that have demonstrated long-term popularity, much less people writing (or affected by) addons created especially for a new expansion.

It seems that after the relaunch of WoW-SL when the initial pre-patch and launch of SL failed badly enough that it delayed the actual release of SL by a few months, that those concerned with addons might have come up with some better addon-level debugging tools than existed just prior to the release of WoW-BFA. Is that a reasonable hope or just silly wishful thinking on my part? :-;

Let me say this is an exhaustive guide for ElvUi. I only have to disagree with one thing you have stated.
The advantages of ElvUI:
- You can customize every single part of your UI to your liking. < This is a suggestive statement and one that proves to be inaccurate. Because my liking and the majority of my friends cannot stand class coloring on tooltips. How can such an inclusive addon, that you can customize to almost the letter on everything , be so abhorrently lacking on the simplest option to remove the class coloring from the tooltip? Now if that option is there I may have missed it, though It also is not listed in this guide. Is this a possibility without adding other plugins? Is this an option on retail and not Classic? I do not play retail.

I have been using ElvUI for years and absolutely love it! It was working fine prior to Dragonflight pre-patch but as soon as 10.0.0 hit, it was totally broken. I struggled for three days trying all I could to get it to work, installed all the current ElvUI releases as they became available. It simply would not replace the Blizzard UI as it was supposed to. Yesterday I looked pretty deep into the addon installs and found the answer to get it to work.
Apparently, if you've been using ElvUI prior to the patch, there are two files you have to delete.
Make sure you are completely out of Game
In your World of Warcraft Installation Folder navigate to World of Warcraft>_retail_>WTF>Account>{random character account name}>{your realm}>{your toon name}>SavedVariables
Find elvui.lua and elvui.lua.bak and delete both of them. (Don't worry as soon as you login to your toon the elvui.lua file will be rewritten in the saved variables folder)
Log into that character in game and ElvUI will be there, replacing the Blizzard UI as intended and all of your settings are still retained from before the patch. (ElvUI will not pop up the setup wizard for pre-existing toons. It will for new toons.)
*note: If you have multiple toons in multiple realms, you'll have to do this for every single toon in every realm
Hope this helps someone who was struggling like I was.

QUESTION =)

Is it possible to configure ElvUI like Clique to mouse over cast spells via the unit frames?

My Problem:
When I map right click to a spell I dont know how to right click a players frame and inspect / follow / whisper them :/

greetings

Asliv

BTW: really nice guide thx man =)

Is there a way to preview the loot-roll frame so I can actually see how it's going to look?
Currently, all edits made are completely blind until you are able to roll on something, at which point you might discover it's off-screen or you're otherwise unable to click one of the options and end up missing out on loot...

Is it possible to update ElvUI directly from Git? I'm playing WoW in linux and as most addons I use have some public git repo, I just made a daily cron script to pull latest changes. But some time ago I started having troubles with ElvUI and I found out, that although I see active development in Git with every pull, actual addon package downloaded from addon sites is different. Most notably, Bindings.xml is outdated by several years in repo, even in TWW beta branch (while I would expect it to be other way around). I'm using https://github.com/tukui-org/ElvUI.git, which I believe is oficial repo (I might be wrong though).

Hi, I am having trouble with the Elvui addon. I am trying get my gold to show on my datatext bar. I have the bar enabled, and I have 3 drop down options to set for the bar. The first 2 bars work fine, but if I try to select Gold nothing happens. I have tried putting gold as the option in the other 2 drop downs and I get the same result. The space is just blank. I have tried disabling all my other addons and still nothing. I am hoping someone may have an answer to this problem.

Awesome, thank you!

Now where's the support channel?

Thanks for the guide! One thing I’m curious about — do you usually use a lot of custom tags and texts, or keep it mostly default? Any tips for balancing info and clean UI?
