Level 20 Frost Mage Guide: Talents, Rotation and Gearing - Forever

By Porom Updated: 2026/09/29

Overview of Level 20 Frost Mages in ForeverHints and Tips for Level 20 Frost Mages in ForeverWhile leveling:

Make sure to either craft or simply buy wands for your level, as they're very strong early on.

Fireballing mobs as the first spell, followed by either Arcane Missiles or Wanding for damage, is very consistent, as it allows you to pull from farther away, and Fireball has great base damage.

Try to maximize your Intellect, Spellpower, and Spirit as much as possible (Crafted gear is great for this) as they're very useful in dungeons later on.

Comprehending Scrolls as you level can provide access to powerful abilities and buffs.

While doing Dungeons:

Maximize your uptime by not overusing your mana; don't be afraid to just Wand while recovering mana in a pack with 1-2 mobs to then use said mana in a following bigger AoE pack with 4-5 mobs instead.

Using your Mana Cooldowns, such as Ley Line or Cannibalize and Evocation frequently is better than not using them at all; even if they feel like low uses, it's better to get 3 low-value uses than none at all throughout the time in between bosses.

Get as much Intellect and Spellpower as you can to increase your total amount of spells and their potency.

Best Level 20 Talent Build for Frost Mages in Forever

Wand specialization increases the already high base damage of Wands if you obtain them as soon as you can and upgrade your crafted wand consistently.

If you don't want to care about your Wand and crafting, you can just start with Elemental Precision, then Ice Shards if you'll play with friends, or you can go Frostbite and Permafrost for more solo gameplay.

Finally, at 20, if you did not go Wands, grab Ice Lance. If you did go Wands, you may want to pay the 1g to grab Ice Lance until the next part of beta.

Additional Talent Points from Legacy System for Frost Mages at Level 20

Keep wand spec at all times and pick up Piercing Ice.

Once again, if you don't want to deal with wants, instead of that you can invest a point in Frost Channeling and then get Ice Block.

Rotation for Level 20 Frost Mages in Forever

Blizzard in AOE (3+ enemies).

Use Arcane Explosion in AOE (3+ enemies) if things are not going to last the Blizzard channel time or if you need to move.

Use Frost Nova liberally to reduce the amount of hits you take if things are attacking you.

Ice Lance if your enemy is frozen.

Frostbolt until the enemy is almost dead, then use Fire Blast to finish it off.
- If the enemy is hitting you, attacking with your wand is usually better than casting Frostbolt.

Wand, it's really good!

"Ice Lance if your enemy is frozen." the only source of the freeze is Frost Nova with cd of 25 sec + u need to go in meele
how enemy must be frothen if u don't learn Frostbite
what is the reason to spam Frostbolt if u don't learn Improved Frostbolt
why u need items on arcane spellpower if u use frost damage?

What is the thinking behind this talent build?

Why are we prioritizing crit damage in a level 20 build when no crit is available? It's crit damage when we're not critting.

Why are we saying to take Ice Lance if we're not taking Permafrost to actually get freezes? Your comment above mentions that Fingers of Frost and other Mages will provide our freezes. One of those solutions requires a talent that isn't attainable in the build yet and the other is relying on OTHER Mages to take it and be in your party?

I mean, you're the "Mage Expert" listed here but it doesn't make any sense to prioritize Ice Shards for no crits over a way to proc Ice Lance damage.
