Changes to Shadow Priest in WoW ForeverNew Abilities and Talents in WoW Forever

Spell

Description

Shadow Word: Death is an iconic Shadow Priest ability first introduced in The Burning Crusade, which has been added to Forever as a baseline Priest spell obtainable at level 32. Shadow Word: Death provides the perfect tool to finish off low-health enemies as you aim to trigger Spirit Tap, and with two points invested in Early Demise, Shadow Word: Death becomes a strong execute-style rotational ability on a short 15-second cooldown.

Dark Sacrifice

Dark Sacrifice is one of several new Priest Racial abilities added in Forever, which provides the Undead Priest with an effect similar to the Warlock's Life Tap ability, converting Health to Mana over 15 seconds. While it's unclear exactly how powerful this ability will feel in practice, especially given its lengthy 10-minute cooldown, this ability is undoubtedly a natural fit for the Shadow Priest toolkit.

Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan is another new Priest Racial ability granting the Gnome Priest a targetable defensive buff which shields and heals over time when a target drops to low Health. Assuming Contingency Plan can be used in Shadowform, this ability is a particularly interesting external defensive option that can be used in a pinch either on an ally or yourself.

Changes to Existing Abilities and Talents in WoW Forever

Spell

Change

Devouring Plague

Devouring Plague is now a baseline spell for Priest on a shorter one-minute cooldown. Previously, Devouring Plague was a three-minute cooldown available only to Undead Priests.

Shadowform

Shadowform has essentially been completely reworked: Shadowform increases Shadow damage by only 10% (down from 15%), but now also reduces the Mana cost of Shadow spells by 50%, and increases the critical strike damage bonus of Shadow spells by 100%. Additionally, only healing spells cannot be cast in Shadowform, allowing you to cast Holy damaging and utility spells without dropping Shadowform. The 15% reduction to incoming Physical damage remains unchanged.

Vampiric Embrace

Vampiric Embrace is now on a one-minute cooldown and lasts for 30 seconds, but has an added effect of activating Spirit Tap when an affected enemy dies. This provides Shadow Priests with a more consistent way to activate Spirit Tap in group play, especially during Raid encounters with adds where it is highly impractical to achieve last-hits on enemies.

Shadow Weaving

Shadow Weaving has been reworked and no longer increases all Shadow spell damage taken by the target. Instead, it simply now increases the caster's Shadow damage dealt. This is a substantial change from the Classic version, as this talent historically encouraged raid groups to bring exactly one Shadow Priest to provide this effect regardless of their overall damage output. This shifts the dynamic in endgame PvE back towards a focus on the Shadow Priest's individual damage output, which has been a major theme across the game's new approach to class design.

I personally am really disappointed about the lack of changes to spriest. i was hoping for a dynamic flexible class like the one we played in SoD, but instead we got something stuck between vanilla and tbc versions, with no mana battery, one dot with another on a minute cooldown? The additional racial bonuses are nice.
Didnt they say that they were doing away with the talents with incremental bonuses? Why is shadow focus still in our tree?
Wheres our dispersion?
Maybe we get a rework. Doubt that it will make spriest as fun as it was in SOD. Bring back runes, blizz

Shadow usually had its own unique niche, I'm not really seeing it in Forever yet which is a bit meh. Execute damage? But warriors already have that, literally. I'd gladly trade SW:D for Vampiric Touch.

Okay so this does fix one of the lacking parts of shadow priest which was the damage, but by my understanding there is nothing to fix the mana issue... So I unfortunately doubt this will still be viable.

it would be better if SwPain had a chance to reset CD on MindBlast as it was done in Cata (maybe). vampiric embrace should give more heal if it has a cd on it, remove party healing. make it 50% heal for 30 secs with 1 min cd - fair enough. otherwise it was never a good heal when it was a perm debuff on target and why would it be good healing even with limited time and cd ?

SP lacks some spell rotation. pain - mb - mf - mf - mb - mf - pain.. feels boring again. another dot can be nice or AOE spell that lands SWPain on hits.

Is priest the only class getting the two extra racial abilities per race?

If shadowform can now cast holy damage spells, which are the ones effected?
Smite and Holy Fire, sure, but what about Holy Nova? From the flag/aura it counts as a damage spell.
