So far gearing in Forever for Protection Paladins requires blacksmithing and farming filling waylaid boxes to get a currency used to buy plans for gear. So far there is very few if any Protection Paladin items from quests or dungeons up until 30. I'm hoping things change beyond that, but it's looking like whatever gear you craft is basically all there is. And if you don't have blacksmithing there just isn't I've found so far at level 30 on the beta.
