How to Visit Your HouseHomestone

The Housing Dashboard, accessed from the menu bar, features a hearthstone that teleports you to your plot. This Homestone has a 15-minute cooldown. If you have both a Horde and Alliance house, select the correct house in the dashboard before using the Homestone.

Characters whose faction aligns with their neighborhood can use the neighborhood portals found in Stormwind and Orgimmar's portal rooms.

Your House: Pick a look and size for your house, and customize that look from a range of options. These looks are Faction specific.

Your Plot: Place decor Items on your Plot. Not all items can be placed outside, and there are some restrictions about placement.

Your Floorplan: The interior layout of your house is a blank canvas. Place rooms of different size, shape, and function in any way that pleases you within certain parameters that govern what rooms can fit and ensure that each room can be accessed.

Your Home: Place decor Items in your rooms. Not all items can be placed inside, and there are some restrictions about placement, but on the whole, if you can imagine it, you can make it happen. Note that there is no connection between your exterior house, and your interior footprint; houses are dimensionally transcendental.

Public neighborhoods
Public neighborhoods are maintained by servers, not players, resulting in random players being placed together as neighbors.

Guild neighborhoods
Guild neighborhoods are created by guild masters for their guild. The GM can assign permission to guild ranks to help administrate the neighborhood.

Private neighborhoods
Private neighborhoods are created by charters and are controlled by the members of the charter group.

I hope the housing is more like Palia, where you have a plot of land and you must gather resources and purchase licenses to expand your home and build things like profession equipments. In Palia, you also build your furniture yourself, and this would be good for WoW because you'll have a good time sink for people to just spend time building something for themselves in the game, and could also be a gold sink, since people could sell furniture and cosmetics on the AH if they aren't willing to farm. In my honest opinion, Palia is the best game regarding the whole player housing thing and I hope Blizzard does a good job on it.

Just reread and realized that nope, we are not getting a full expansion, AGAIN! Another rush job and instead of 3 major content patches, we are down to only 2 and 11.2.7 will probably be the last patch before prepatch for Midnight.

So we went from 4 major content patches per xpac across 2 full years, to only 3 major patches in Dragonflight across 20 months, and now War Within with only TWO major content patches across 16 months.

WTF IS HAPPENING? Xpac prices should be cut in half or discount 33%, because we are not getting full expansions anymore. Whoever's genius idea it was to destroy WOW for the sake of sort-of-but-not-really classic versions is out of their mind.

And then what, will Midgnight xpac only last 1 year and we will be at 1 yrs per xpac with only 1 major content patch per xpac? THIS IS SCARY STUFF. Idk why people aren't freaking out.

My Two Main Ideas and Concepts for the Housing System That I Believe Would Be a Great Addition

1 - A new tab entirely dedicated to professions related to building and maintaining houses, as well as crafting both interior and exterior items. This system wouldn’t interfere with existing professions but rather complement them and create a new in-game market. The most commonly mentioned professions so far are Carpenter and Lumberjack, but there is a vast range of professions directly linked to house-related items that would require gathering materials. For example, a Miner would still collect existing ores but could also provide resources for a specialized house-related profession, such as a Brick or Tile Maker. A Lumberjack would supply wood for a Carpenter, and similarly, an Engineer could provide specific metals for a Structural Builder.

2 - A new gathering system across the entire world, integrated into all maps, allowing players to collect new, specialized materials for crafting housing items. This would introduce an entirely new resource-gathering system from scratch. Similar to how plants and ores are gathered, this would create a specific class of gatherers focused on the housing system, along with new crafting professions dedicated to house-related items. Specific forests would offer different types of wood with unique color variations, while specialized stone mines would provide various types and colors of stones. Players would be encouraged to explore new areas with the chance to gather rare materials for crafting decorative items.

In summary, a dedicated system of housing-related professions and new resource-gathering zones for raw materials would introduce a fresh gameplay loop, offering players countless hours of engaging activities. Whether striving to build the perfect home or seeking to profit from crafting, this system would create a dynamic economy, as many players would be willing to spend significant amounts of in-game currency to acquire raw materials or fully crafted housing items.

I want to add; not only Wildstar and FFXIV have dynamic housing and furniture but also Elder Scrolls Online also have a very good tool for their player housing too. So it's not just those two MMO's, I have played ESO for 5 years (going onto 6) and really enjoy their housing and decorating (even though they don't have front gardens or neighbourhoods like FFXIV).

Blizzard has revealed that player housing is designed on a fundamentally social level, as a way to encourage player interaction.

Housing seems to be a rest zone for those people who spend more time typing/talking to one another rather than actually adventuring. Good for you, and great that they are in their own zones which takes to load off active servers where the people who wish to play in the open world have less visual clutter from those parked in one spot AFK as they text each other.

If there is going to be a neighborhood made, it should include amenities, i.e.: bank access (private, guild, warband, reagents) access to the AH, it should include a current expansion 'store' where foods/drink are available to buy suitable for every character level. a Barber shop for sure. It should have 'crafting shops' where vendors sell mats, reagents, green tools/equipment for any profession from ANY expansion. There should also be a universal stall that no matter what toon you play can learn/craft their professions. You have a similar setup in the Garrison in Warlords of Draenor which is all private and cozy as it is; with its own hearth stone separate from other porting devices.

Considering the real world here where many residential neighborhoods have access to close by strip malls with all the amenities within a couple minutes walking distance, this should not be a problem for them to provide these options. I live within 500 feet of such a strip mall, it has a full size grocery store, gym, 2 dine in restaurants and 3 fast-food joints, a pharmacy, an insurance company, pot shop, liquor store, hair salon, all within a 2 minute walk.

Color wheel! I don't need a dyeing system that's limited to what colors the devs think I want! Seriously Color wheel please! Like why doesn't wow have a color wheel for hair/skin/eye/nails color options! Being able to personalize the colors of everything mattered to me ;D Wows cartoon style loves those crazy BC colors! I just want my clown house and the only think keeping me from it is a lack of color wheel! I feel crazy for still asking for one in 2025! oh boy oh boy..oh wait.. you mean like the Garrison.. man that sure worked...yes.. lotta work,,,,,on our part yes and now defunct.. this was tried before in other games..RIFT for one.. years ago. even had guild homes.. crafting tables ..banking....everything ...and even there went the way of the old blizz garrison.. guess theres enuff of the newbies not to rememer that fubar. same old bs different day.

Do we also get to choose neighborhoods per character or will it be 1 neighborhood for the entire account?
And what if 1 character belongs to an alliance guild, and a 2nd one belongs to an horde guild, not to mention a crossfaction guild, if that guild chooses alliance neighborhood, but ya wanna live in the horde neighborhood?
Also, can a neighborhood also be made neutral? so that a horde char can still walk around da alliance neighborhood, and vice versa?
Plus the houses emselfs: can we build an alliance type house in a horde neighborhood and vice versa.

And seeing that more type of neighborhoods will be released in the future, im pretty sure that many players and I would love an bloodelf/dalaran type of house in a nightelf neighborhood, or something similar but in a different type of neighborhood :D

Having many housing zones conflicts with the second pillar of designing a feature that is “Deeply Social.”

This game became antisocial many, many years ago. With rat race as its core design another zone with boring and silly events, weeklies and dailies won't change that. Other changes could, but Blizzard is too cheap and too greedy to fix it.

The Alliance zone takes inspiration from Elwynn Forest with touches of Westfall and Duskwood, and the Horde’s is inspired by Durotar, its coastline, and Azshara.

As developer i somehow understand to start only with two areas as MVP, so Blizzard can "listen to" feedback. Starting with the most boring ones is just a perfect premise for baiting players to the cash shop and milking them for something that actually doesn't suck. I have huge hope for environmental design team that made very good job in TWW, except atrocious, eyestrain giving Manaforge Omega, and I believe they are cooking something nice with lot of love.
I enjoy playing games, not decorating them. I spent 15 years in that game sleeping rough on my best spots in Azeroth, so i don't care much about housing. The only way how Blizzard could buy me into it is by giving multiple zones with their native bg music, so i can sit on a bench, listen to great music and without being kicked for AFK, while i study, read, reflect, do planning or maybe even meditate.

Really disappointed they decided to stick with the abysmal 2 houses per account limit. I understand the possible server strain of 70 or so houses for every person, but I really think at the bare minimum we should have 4 total houses to start out with, one for each exterior style on release, and that limit increasing every time a new exterior is released. I hope the limit is upped before or after the release of housing, because currently I think the limit could genuinely kill housing as a feature in a lot of ways.

And speaking of DEI and what a flagship Blizzard and WoW are for that, will there be any 'opt-out' or toggleable option for people with disabilities like social anxiety and such who - for one reason or another - despise the social aspects of this multiplayer game to use to five the whole thing a miss? " seems to, once again, point to the missing of the premise of the realities of DEI -- if you're going to include anyone, you must include everyone. Things took a seriously bad turn when shared mob tagging started and forced group content, zone phasing, cross-realm mergers (and now player housing) all work to further the difficulty which some players have when they're trying to 'escape' life for a while by logging in to play WoW. These 'features' show what little grasp most company's truly have on what is to be inclusive.

Got my house and checked out the new housing systems, from decorating to crafting/unlocking Decor, and so far I have to say player housing in WoW is... underwhelming and frustratingly disappointing looking how the Decor collection is designed.

Was expecting Decor to be collected as a "get once, keep it all" concept like transmog and toys, just add it to your collection and good to go. I don't mind crafting and unlocking them but having to have more than one item to have several in my house is stupid design, I don't want to buy more than one chair just to have several in my house. This may seem like pointless rambling but considering Decor costs 500+ G from vendors you could potentially spend hundreds of thousands of gold if you want that ideal house you have in mind. And with what they have planned with that new "outfit" system with transmog (It can cost what was it, 400k G at max)? This just makes me believe Blizzard wants me to buy Tokens and sell them.

And then there is the whole crafting and trade aspect to collecting Decor. I don't have a problem with it but seeing the prices for them on the AH is very discouraging, and adding the aforementioned knowledge that I need to buy more than 2-3 just for one room is already frustrating enough. Maybe it is because the whole housing system is new so prices need to change and settle by the time Midnight actually comes, don't know.

Here's hoping the housing system doesn't turn out to be complete horrible.

Has anyone tried to move your house to a different plot in the same neighborhood?

I noticed the first plot is free, and when I look at new plots its now 1000 Gold to move. Does anyone know if the price increases (exponentially if i know Blizz) each time you change plot, or is it a fixed 1000g for every move?

Could not find a answer to this in any guides (for now at least).

Very excited about housing! While testing I would like to see a lock function. That when you are done with placing an object (house as example) you can lock the object in place; so it doesn't get moved by accident while being in edit mode.

Hey so, question. On the teaser or trailer they showed for Housing, it looked like there were Legendary weapons displayed on the walls. Is that going to be implemented at some point later then? It'd be kind of cool to have a trophy room to display all the legendary weapons people have collected.

maybe it's that I started in Shadowlands and dont have the nostalgia lens that long time gamers have. I will say that it's nice to see, and I'm glad there's so many who've been around much longer than me who are happy with things right now though. Its easy to see why achievements converting to items is cool for collector types and perhaps why they dont understand how players like me feel alienated logging into the game right now.

HUGE ISSUE!. When you choose a new plot, the house is facing the wrong way. You can't rotate the plot. It says "Cannot be placed outside of plot." if you try to rotate the house.

Does anyone know of an add-on that makes the farmable wood for decor, well, brighter on the ground? I'm having a hell of a time seeing where it is because it blends into the trees, at least from my perspective. Or are there any accessability features that do the same thing?

If you are just starting out with your new plot and running into the typical launch-day housing bugs, here are two major lifesavers that the tutorial doesn't explain very well:

1. How to fix the "Invalid Placement" (Red Box) Error:
If you are trying to push furniture against the walls and the game keeps blocking you, you need to turn off the default collision.

Open the Housing Dashboard (Default hotkey: H)

Toggle to Advanced Mode

Click the small gear icon next to the rotation axis and uncheck "Collision Checks" and "Snap to Grid". You can now clip items slightly into walls for a flush fit!

2. How to fix getting stuck inside your House/Phasing issues:
Launch week servers are struggling, and sometimes the exit portal out of your housing plot won't spawn, trapping you inside. Do not use your hearthstone! Instead, use this built-in script to force the game to cleanly exit the instance and put you back outside your plot:

/run C_Housing.LeaveInstance()
(I recommend making a quick macro for this until they patch the phasing!)

Things I would like to see added to player housing in the future:

1: Import all your special items from your Garrison, such as the Jukebox and statues.
2: Ability to add a "partner", like your special other. (They can move things around but they can't take anything)
3: Want others to see the inside of your home and marvel at your interior decorating skills? Then you can set you home to "Open House". People who want to check it open houses can click a "See Open Houses"option in their Housing dashboard and see all the open houses in their neighborhood or other neighborhoods.

It would be nice if the vendors in the pre-Midnight areas sold their decor items for gold, instead of the currency of that particular expansion. It should automatically unlock for gold to anyone that has already completed that expansion or has started in a later expansion. I want to get some cool stuff from Amirdrassil, but have used all of my Dragon Isle supplies. My decor-addicted butt is so sad. :(
