Ability

Description

Growth

Growth is a buff Gruul will give himself every 30 seconds, increasing his size by 10% and damage done by 15%. This buff stacks up to 30 times.

Hurtful Strike

Hurtful Strike deals damage to the second-highest on threat, which is hopefully the Off Tank.

Cave In

Cave In will display an area on the ground that deals physical damage to all targets inside the area for 5 seconds. Everyone in the raid needs to avoid these cave-in areas.

Reverberation

Reverberation will silence the entire raid for 4 seconds. It can be dangerous if people are low when a Reverberation goes out, so healers need to keep the raid as healthy as possible at all times.

Ground Slam

Ground Slam is the other primary mechanic to this encounter, along with the time-sensitive nature around Growth. Ground Slam will send the entire raid on a knockback and apply a debuff, Gronn Lord's Grasp, which stacks up to 5.

Gronn Lord's Grasp

Gronn Lord's Grasp is the debuff applied from Ground Slam. This debuff reduces movement speed by 20% and stacks up to 5. After 5 stacks are applied to the entire raid, the raid will then be Stoned.

Stoned

Stoned will stun all players in the raid after receiving 5 stacks of Gronn Lord's Grasp. While Stoned, you are susceptible to taking damage from Shatter. Pets can be Stoned but are not impacted by Shatter.

Shatter

Shatter happens after the entire raid is Stoned. Shatter deals Physical damage and is amplified when Stoned targets are closer together. The range is 18 yards, so if the entire raid spreads out before being Stoned, it can mitigate a lot of raid damage from Shatter.

The Main Tank and Off Tank should be first and second on threat for Gruul, so a designated person is taking Hurtful Strikes. This is important because if melee climbs on threat over the off tank, they will get immediately one-shot by a Hurtful Strike.

Tanks should stay spread out enough not to Shatter one another after a Ground Slam.

Save Defensive cooldowns for a scary situation if healers didn't put healing over time abilities on the tank before a Reverberation.

Tips for Melee on Gruul the Dragonkiller

Stay spread out around the boss at maximum melee range, to mitigate bad RNG from Ground Slam's knockbacks. Spread out around the room and stay more than 18 yards from other players before Shatter goes out.

Don't stand in Cave In, which has an animation of falling rocks and deals physical damage.

Don't pass the Hurtful Strike tank on threat, if you want to live.

Use offensive cooldowns early and often. This fight usually lasts longer than 5 minutes, meaning it is possible to get two rounds of cooldowns in. Don't accidentally rip threat by doing too much damage at the very start of the fight, however!

Tips for Ranged on Gruul the Dragonkiller

Spread out around the edge of the room at maximum spell distance, to mitigate bad RNG from Ground Slam's knockbacks. Spread out around the room and stay more than 18 yards from other players before Shatter goes out.

Don't stand in Cave In, which has an animation of falling rocks and deals physical damage.

You can pass the Hurtful Strike tank on threat, because it only targets the second highest on threat within melee range. If you are knocked toward the boss after a Ground Slam, you could potentially die.

Tips for Healers on Gruul the Dragonkiller

Be prepared to spam healing over time abilities on the tanks before a Reverberation goes out, as you will be silenced for 4 seconds and can not heal.

The entire raid takes a lot of damage throughout this fight, so a couple of healers should be assigned to raid healing exclusively. These Healers can freely heal everyone in the raid, while other healers focus on tank healing.

The Gruul encounter is a very long fight, so healers should be using Super Mana Potion early and often. Druids should save any Innervate for later in the fight for healers.

bestial wrath negates the knock. Shatter is also 18 yards, not 15.
