Ability

Description

Frostbolt is a spell with a long cast time that deals Frost damage and applies a slowing debuff. This spell is interruptible.

Fireball

Fireball, like Frostbolt, has a long cast time. It deals Fire damage and is also interruptible.

Arcane Missiles

Arcane Missiles is a channeled ability that fires off five Arcane Missiles at the target. This spell is interruptible.

Chains of Ice

Chains of Ice randomly hits a player in the raid, rooting them in place for 10 seconds. This is a Magic debuff and can be dispelled.

Area Counterspell

Area Counterspell interrupts all casters within a 10 yard radius of Shade of Aran. If hit by it while casting, it will lock the player out the interrupted spells' school of magic for 10 seconds.

Summon Water Elementals

At 40% total health, Shade of Aran will summon four Elite Conjured Elementals. These Conjured Elementals will cast Waterbolt at random targets. After 90 seconds, they will despawn.

Mass Polymorph, Conjure Water, Pyroblast

Once Shade of Aran's mana has been reduced to 20% or less, he will cast this sequence of spells. He will Polymorph the entire raid, conjure water, drink for about 10 seconds (or until a player interrupts him), and then cast Pyroblast on the entire raid.

Summon Shadow of Aran

After 12 minutes, Shade of Aran will summon multiple Shadows of Aran (Elite mobs) to assist him. They cast area-of-effect damage-dealing abilities and will quickly wipe a raid. This is a hard enrage mechanic.

Flame Wreath

Flame Wreath is a 5-second cast that will target three random players in the raid, placing a fire circle around those players. If the targeted players try to move out of the circle of fire, Fire damage is dealt to the entire raid. Once this ends, Shade of Aran will cast Dragon's Breath, dealing Fire damage over time to one player. They will need quick spot heals.

Circular Blizzard

Circular Blizzard will spawn a large blizzard that rotates around the edge of the room, clockwise. It deals significant Frost damage and applies a major slowing effect.

Massive Magnetic Pull, Mass Slow, Charged Arcane Explosion

Magnetic Pull will bring all raid members to the center of the room. Shade of Aran then casts Slow on the entire raid, reducing movement speed. He then begins to cast Charged Arcane Explosion, which is a 10-second cast that deals Arcane damage within a 20-yard radius. The raid needs to immediately start moving away to avoid this damage.

For this encounter, Shade of Aran can not be tanked. Tanks should swap all gear to be a damage dealer. But make sure you have at least 8,000 total health.

Tips for Melee on Shade of Aran

Since the Area Counterspell won't impact Melee, they can stick on top of Shade of Aran and deal damage.

Rogues can use Cloak of Shadows for pretty much all of Shade of Aran's abilities.

For prioritizing which of Shade of Aran's spells to interrupt, Arcane Missiles does the most damage.

Swap to Conjured Water Elementals whenever they spawn. If the Summon Water Elemental spell happens when Shade of Aran is between 20% and 40% on mana, it is imperative for the raid to interrupt every spell he casts at least until all the Water Elementals are dead.

Tips for Ranged on Shade of Aran

Spellcasters need to stay at max range from the boss during the encounter to avoid being hit by the Area Counterspell. While at max range, be on the lookout for Blizzard and move around the room accordingly.

Tips for Healers on Shade of Aran

Priest and Paladin need to remove the Chains of Ice debuff as quickly as possible. If a player is stuck in Chains of Ice during the Massive Magnetic Pull, they could potentially die.

Healers need to stay at max range from the boss during the encounter to avoid being hit by the Area Counterspell. While at max range, be on the lookout for Blizzard and move around the room accordingly.

Shade of Aran will sometimes cast Dragon's Breath on a random player, dealing Fire damage over time. Healers will need to quickly react and spot heal this player to keep them from dying.
