In order to accrue a full Level Bar of Rested Experience you need to log off in a Rest Area for 6.67 days - almost a week.

Should you always log off in a Rest Area, is it worth it?

Rested Experience is certainly not a requirement and if you don't bother it will not affect your experience of the game. If you will be logged off for any amount of time, it's nice to have that little bit of extra for farming or killing mobs when you log back in, so you might make a point of returning to a Rest Area then. Since Rested Experience accrues at an even percent rate, and the amount of Experience required to gain each Level increases as you gain Levels, using Rested Experience is actually more effective at higher levels.

Your Hearthstone will usually be set to a Rest Area so it is easy to just Hearth before logging off to ensure that you have your buff.

If I run out of Rested Experience should I log out?

No. If you are having fun, keep on trucking.

Ok, this is kind of embarrassing.. But I've played this game since like 2005, never understood how you got rested XP until now..

as of 12.0.5 ...
i have 10+ alts, 1 at 90
initially all the alts were gaining rested xp, and for a week it kept building up
they all even did the initial get to the new base city stuff and got a few K experience started.
but suddenly, with the last update, all the rested xp vanished.

anyone else?

Did they change the XP chat messages in 12.0.7?

While leveling my last alt (12.0.5) I saw messages like “<foe XYZ> dies, you gain <nnn> experience (+<nnn> rested XP).” With my current leveler, I’ve never seen the “+ rested XP” part (despite being rested, of course).

PS:

I just tested it by killing the same open-world mob (Tearful Boar in Zul’Aman) before exhausting the rested pool and afterwards: The rested bonus XP is still there (1044 vs 606 XP @L84), it’s just the explicit “+n rested XP” part of the message that is missing. So, no XP bug, just a less transparent message.
