Many profession items that were used in past expansions make a return, such as Armor Kits, Weapon Oils and Sharpening Stones;

Like in Classic WoW, Enchanters can create several Enchanted Resources that are used in advanced crafts for other professions - Enchanted Lightless Silk, Enchanted Heavy Callous Hide, Enchanted Elethium Bar;

Legendaries are now crafted with the help of professions - Tailoring, Leatherworking and Blacksmithing are used to create Base Pieces that can be upgraded into mighty Legendary Armor, while Inscription can create Stat Missives that allows you to customize the secondary stats on your crafted gear;

Still in the subject of gear improvement, several professions can now create Optional Reagents that can improve the item level of crafted gear;

Archaeology says goodbye from profession updates, as it has not been updated for Shadowlands.

New potion types added:
Extracts - ground herbs that are used in further Alchemy crafting.

Oils, used to imbue weapons with temporary effects as well as improving Combat potions.

Potion of Unbridled FuryBlacksmithing Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Blacksmithing will be able to create Legendary-quality items.

After a very long hiatus (not since Burning Crusade), Blacksmithing will once again include Sharpening Stones and Weightstones. These offer 1-hour boosts to damage from sharp weapons (Sharpening Stones) or blunt weapons (Weightstones).

Warglaives have been added to the roster of Blacksmith-crafted weapons.

Star ranks for recipes do not appear in Shadowlands at this time.

Legendary base armor pieces introduces the concept of Crafting Experience. This means that you need to earn separate experience for crafting each Legendary piece you make to be able to create the next rank!

Enchanting Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Armor Enchants are back! Most armor slots now have Enchants once more.

Enchanted profession reagents are also back, this time with a new Cloth reagent used for Tailoring, as well as an Enchanted Leather and Ore.

Gathering enchants are returned with a single enchant used to increased the speed of all gathering done in Shadowlands.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence.

Engineering Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Engineers will have a "techno-magic breakthrough", which will make many Engineering devices more powerful, but much more difficult to control. Backfires may be catastrophic! Increased skill in Engineering also reduces the chance of backfires.

Engineering Optional Reagents add useful effects, like increasing swim speed or increasing your primary stat for completing World Quests.

Engineered goggles not only have great stats and awesome good looks, but will also add +20 to your engineering skill.

Fun new devices make a comeback, with all the potentially suicidal side effects you've come to expect of the finest goblin and gnomish engineering.

Like BfA, Shadowlands will have a mechanical auction house available only to engineers! The Photonic Gearhaggle can be found near the Engineering Trainer in the Hall of Shapes, Oribos.

Herbalism Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Unlike Battle for Azeroth, no Shadowlands herbs are terrain dependent (like how Sea Stalk is only found on coastal waters).

Each of the four Covenant zones has one herb that only grows there and nowhere else. One herb can be found in all four zones, and one herb can be found in all zones, including the Maw.

Inscription Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Inscription has new Optional Reagents, one a powerful addition to all crafted armor made with Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Tailoring, and another that gives the ability to create targeted Darkmoon Cards for specific decks.

Words of Power are Optional Reagents for increasing the armor class of crafted armor and are expected to be in high demand.

No glyphs have yet been announced, but this does not necessarily mean that Inscription will have no new glyphs.

Dark Parchment is the first introduction of a new parchment for Inscription since most of the additional parchments were removed with Mists of Pandaria.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence.

Jewelcrafting Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Jewelcrafting will have the ability to create Legendary rings and necklaces.

Two new gem types added: One increases your Health and one increases your Speed based on how many Shadowlands gems you have socketed on your gear.

There are now only three base gems, each representing a primary color.

Rare-Quality Gems no longer exist, being created by combining different base gems.

Rare-Quality Gems can also be used as an Optional Reagent in crafted gear, allowing you to choose what secondary stat you want on that piece of gear.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence.

Leatherworking Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Leatherworking will be able to create both leather and mail Legendary armor pieces. The ingredients necessary to create these have not been fully revealed.

Each of the four major Covenant-controlled zones have their own Leatherworking armor pieces based on the local aesthetic, and each will use a zone-specific leather to create it.

Armor Kits have returned after a long hiatus (since Burning Crusade). These 2-hour buffs will add Stamina to chest, legs, hands and/or feet. If these work like earlier Armor Kits, you will be able to apply these to all four possible slots at once to receive full benefit.

Leatherworking Optional Reagents exist but have only been partially identified. These can be added to crafted armor for specific buffs.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence.

Mining Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Stone has returned as a byproduct of Mining, and is used in several recipes.

Shadowlands introduces strictly zone-based ores. Osmenite Ore was the closest thing in BfA, restricted only to Nazjatar, but in Shadowlands, four of the six ores can only be found in their aligned Covenant zones.

Normal and Rich deposits remain, but Seams have been removed.

Skinning Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Scales have been removed from Skinning. Mail armor is now created using similar ingredients to regular Leatherworking, so you don't have to maintain and farm for separate materials.

Scraps have returned in the form of Desolate Leather Scraps (last expansion to have Scraps was Mists of Pandaria). Unlike past expansions, you must have Leatherworking (10) to turn Desolate Leather Scraps into Desolate Leather, and it requires 10x Desolate Leather Scraps. Thankfully, Desolate Leather Scraps are not a common skinning result.

Tailoring Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

Tailoring will have the ability to create Legendary armor pieces.

Tailoring Pieces are compatible with the new upcoming Optional Reagents in Shadowlands.

New Armor Sets for Tailoring include one assigned to each Covenant and a legendary set.

Star ranks for recipes have been greatly reduced in prominence.

Cooking Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

New fun foods are being added in Shadowlands, including a new version of the popular Legion recipe Bear Tartare!

Shadowlands Cooking relies more on Fish than has been required in Cooking previous expansions. There are only two recipes that do not require Fish as an ingredient, so get your fishing poles ready!

Fishing Changes from Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands

There is no distinction made between Coastal and Inland fish. The "coasts" of the four fishable zones in Shadowlands are great, airy voids. All fishing is Inland.

There are four fish that can only be caught in their home zones. Two types can be caught anywhere.

Bait has returned! You can catch bait to increase yields for all major fish types, but there are important (and much more convenient) changes made to bait.

Grey-quality (trash) items don't ever go away entirely. While the frequency of greys decreases dramatically as skill improves, it is still possible to get the occasional trash item at max level.

What is happening to pre-shadowlands professions though.
There will be multiple expansions worth of professions all equalised to the same level ranges, but with continent specific material requirements.
And what was meant to be a small level range of crafting then stretched out to cover right up to near level cap.
How is that being handled.

Any word on reputation locked recipes? Everyone says the "star system" is not really a thing anymore, what about the recipes then? Do i have to grind a faction to revered/exalted on my alt just to use him as a crafter?

This may have been asked and answered previously, but if my main is a plate wearer, does he have to have Blacksmithing as a profession in order to craft Legendary armour to wear? Or can he keep the current profs?

Is there any profession-only-bonus in shadowlands ? For example mixology for alchemie ( 2h Flask Duration). If yes , can anyone list this stuff here ? Would be really helpfull. Thanks in advance. Cid

FYI to all - Blizzard has removed the chance for random rare/blue quality upgrade procs when crafting common/green equipment. After a lot of crafting and some run-around, I finally got confirmation of this from Blizzard.

I had a read of your conversation with us so far, and I dug a bit deeper into this situation.

You are absolutely right, the amount of crafting you did, there should have been an upgrade or two in there.

So I asked for clarification on this point, and it turns out that, because war- and titanforging no longer exists, profession crafts can't upgrade anymore at all, since they use that system.

I hadn't known about this until now, but it is intended, all things considered.

I'm sorry about the trouble caused by this! Thank you for your patience and understanding in the matter.

Really terrible change for crafters & enchanters alike. I hope they reconsider this.

Enchanting "Like in classic wow" So does this mean we're going back to Enchanters demanding money up front for their service again?

Cooking needs fishing. Ugh, I hated this in BFA and I hate it in SL.

Sl's biggest problem to me is it's got way too much of classic in it. Keep that retirement home version of wow out of real wow. No one wants it's ugly, broken systems back. Completely ruined my Enhancement spec too.

The cap of max. 999 craft items when clicking "Create All" seems to be removed too (without using TSM and other Addons).

Test performed by crafting 3500 Tide Pants in 1 "Create All" click.
Big QoL improvement for vendor shufflers.

Legion still has it's cap with inventory slots sadly.

In BfA we could reroll professions and buy a tome if we wanted to go back to the previous one if we decided to do so. Can we do it in Shadowlands too? I didn't see any information about it so far.

remember when professions were actually part of game? now they do next to nothing and some are just plain abandoned (poor archeology, such wasted potential) - there could be a whole world of fun quests and content that could be added with professions if blizz wanted.. explore ancient ruins (solo dungeons) for archeology stuff etc etc.. with infinite worlds now a thing they should really think on making professions a proper part of game again.

Hey guys, i cant seem to understand, what level i need to start dragonflight professions .
I got myself to 300 classic leatherworking and tailoring, is that going to be enough ? Also i got 0 on all the other expac skills
