A long time ago, we had the ability for players to go in - it was actually a paid service - and change their character. Much of that is now in the barber shop in the game, and as we were adding things up in Shadowlands, we realised, 'Gosh the only way you can change your gender in World of Warcraft is to go through this paid service.' And we felt like that's not the right message.

Unfortunately, we can't fix that right now but it is our intent with Shadowlands to take that out of being a paid service thing and in the barber shop. But that's not something we can easily hotfix - unfortunately we can't do that right now. It is something that we're going to have in Shadowlands itself.

WoW is a game that doesn't try to emphasise sexual relationships so in that regard, we don't necessarily tell that part of the story other than to hint around it. But we certainly have characters - or we've always thought of characters as having - different gender identities in the game.

We don't try to put a big focus on it and make it a big deal, we just try to make the game feel comfortable, friendly, and approachable for everybody in the game, regardless of where they come from.

Does this mean there were already trans characters in the game?

Knowing some of our designers and having conversations with them, I'm sure that was the intent, but we like to keep things subtle.

You've accidentally misspelled Shadowlands with 3 As when you covered the new class armor samples. Just a headsup.

My thing with customization is...a lot of what they are adding is being done to reflect player's personal choices in RL, yes this is an avatar for you but you are still bound by the fantasy of the setting and culture you are immersing yourself in. Keep in mind that you should create your character within the parameters of that world and how that character culturally stylizes themselves, NOT how you would do it in RL. You are taking on the role of a character, not creating a digital copy of yourself. Some of these hairstyles might work in the real world...but geez they just don't fit on the races of wow.

Grate job on this custom thing now if we can get a more muscular body for female characters im tired looking like a toothpick when i'm playing warriors paladins and dks, i hope you are going to add them in the future just body type sliders and um good.

I love the new Pandaren customizations! Though I've always wanted to see female pandaren with a simple, long hair cut. No ponytails. Maybe a hair clip! But there are so many ponytail hair cuts, and no regular long haired ones. Any chance we could see one or two of those?

Would love to see some more options for Vulpera, especially the females, only thing that is different between them and the males are their little lady bumps. Some hair would be great!

Feels like the alliance, especially Night Elves, have overwhelmingly more customization features right now than the horde.

All of these things are great, but I'm still bummed that humans have nearly double the customization options of any other race. The number of options should be as close to even as possible for everyone. And trolls need beards, darn it!

I'm not a game artist or, know the allotted extent to which customization can be taken.
So, why instead of a fixed look doesn't blizzard use a 1-100 size scale? (I'm guessing the storage required would be to massive.)
( For instance ears, eyebrow, facial features.) That way you can scale these to what you prefer instead, of arguing to big/wide/etc. I don't know if it was mentioned in previous comments but, personally I think that would clear up a lot of issues for many of the looks.

Okay, these are great additions, but what I'd also like to see (besides some Nightborne love) is the option to change my voice. Blood Elf Demon Hunters sound ridiculous.
