Prot Paladin Boss by Boss Tips
Antorus, the Burning Throne
Positioning/Things to Know
Run out for
Eradication
(Happens after the intermission)
Soak SMALL circles if they are in melee range.
Tanking Notes
The tank swap on this fight is the
Fel Bombardment
.
There must always be a tank in melee range else the boss will pulse out AoE damage on the raid (the only exception to this is when
Eradication
is cast or when you have
Fel Bombardment
)
Tank Assignments
Your job on this fight is purely to have a tank in melee range at all times (except for
Eradication
or when you have
Fel Bombardment
)
During intermissions, avoid the huge beams from the boss.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
You can use
Blessing of Spellwarding
+
Divine Shield
to negate the artillery strikes and stand in place (still be away from others) - Mythic also works for empowered soak
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
Crusader's Judgment
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
Positioning/Things to Know
Keep the bosses 40y from each other (else they both get +100% dmg)
Decay
/
Smouldering
hits in a 25y cone, be careful where you point the boss!
Tanking Notes
There is no tank swap on this fight
Follow the dog you have been assigned to, at 50% this will change
Tank Assignments
Have some form of mitigation up for
Decay
(Shatug) or
Smouldering
(F'harg) as this is a heavy hitting ability.
You CAN be targeted by the fire lines from F'harg as a tank, so be aware of this and point it away from your raid clump.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Holy Shield
/Class Ring +
Blessing of Freedom
removes the slow but not the fear.
Blessing of Protection
makes you immune to fear (but not others).
Positioning/Things to Know
It's easier to just tank the boss outside their respective pod
Always keep the boss faced away from the raid (does conal attack)
Tanking Notes
Swap on 2 stacks of the debuff
It's is vital that you have active mitigation/a cooldown up for the 2nd hit.
Tank Assignments
There are three boses in this encounter, however only one is active at a time. First is the boss straight ahead as you enter, next is the boss to the right as you enter, after that is left and this cycles until they run out of HP.
If you spot that a beacon is far away from your location, pre move the boss closer to it so that you and your melee don't have to move as far.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
Might be useful to have a mouseover
Avenger's Shield
macro to assist with interrupts.
Positioning/Things to Know
Keep the boss on the opposite side from the next portal (to not clip people coming out of them)
Avoid taking too many stacks of
Reality Tear
, as when your debuff expires "
Bursting Darkness
" hits the raid and it's based on your stacks.
Tanking Notes
You can swap at 2 stacks of
Reality Tear
, however being in the portal may not make this a possibility every time.
Keep the boss near the OPPOSITE portal.
Tank Assignments
Portal spawns are Red (90% HP) --> Green (60%) --> Purple (30%).
After the each portal the boss is able to summon adds onto the platform, tunnel them ASAP.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Holy Shield
,
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
Positioning/Things to Know
You have an extra action button that gives you temporary flight. Click it again to pick where to land (Heroic Leap)
Fel-Infused Destructors need to be tanked (else they hit Eonar)
Tanking Notes
Keep Fel-Powered Purifiers Away from everything else.
When a Fel-Infused Destructor is up, this MUST be tanked and interupted!
Tank Assignments
Fel-Powered Purifiers will do an AoE giving CC immunity to all adds within 20y
Fel-Charged Obfuscator makes all the adds nearby invisible. This has enhanced priority to be killed. (IMMUNE TO CC)
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
Positioning/Things to Know
Don't step on mines, tripwires or runes.
Avoid the sleep canisters
Tanking Notes
Swap on 4 stacks for phase 1, and 2 stacks for phase 2
In phase 3, the debuffs are permanent.
Tank Assignments
Intermissions at 66% and 33%. Mythic: Transitions are every 20%.
The mines in intermission ping you away and do damage. The runes do an AoE stun. The trip wires do AoE damage.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Holy Shield
,
,
Blessing of Protection
(Cavileer)
Holy Shield
allows you to "block" Shrapnel Blast bleed. You can block sever (only the up front damage)
Positioning/Things to Know
Forging Strike
has a 5y splash around you. BE ALONE FOR IT.
Soak the bombs away from the raid by running into them.
Tanking Notes
The beam will 1 shot you, don't be in it!
Swap on each cast of "
Forging Strike
"
Tank Assignments
The active tank should not be near anyone else as the "
Forging Strike
" does a 5y splash.
When soaking a purple orb, soak it away from the raid (damage drops off with distance)
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
Positioning/Things to Know
When you take any shadow damage you are immune to healing for 7s
Position yourselves so that you are within 8y, but both not in front -->
Tanking Notes
When the boss gets near/at 100 energy, have mit up.
The boss will do a
Shadow Strike
, after which you'll be heal immune
Tank Assignments
Be sure you are always within 8y of another player, else you will be hit by "
Alone in the Darkness
" and take shadow damage
Heroic/Mythic: The boss changes his auras throughout the encounter. Changing Auras every 2mins in this order Fire --> Frost --> Fel --> Shadow
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
You can immune off the heal immunity with
Divine Shield
. You can also cast
Blessing of Spellwarding
on a necrotic player to prevent all damage + heal immunity)
Positioning/Things to Know
Get to the safe spot during the
Storm of Darkness
Move out of spinning swords
Tanking Notes
Noura + Dima apply stacking debuffs to their target. Swap when it's high. Some tanks can easily take more than others. Swap ~every stack for
Flashfreeze
, and ~3/4 stacks of
Fiery Strike
Tank Assignments
Bosses swap at ~65% and ~40%. You start with Shadow + Fire, and then Shadow + Frost and finally Frost + Fire.
Amanthul: DPS an add down before it finishes its cast, if it finishes its cast it heals to full. Pick one and kill it (or two), don't split dps evenly on all 4.
Khaz'goroth: Avoid the middle and kill adds.
Norgannon: Root/stun/freeze/grip/pushback the adds.
Golganneth: Spread 2y and kill adds.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Holy Shield
,
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
Flashfreeze
can be removed with freedom (does not negate the damage).
Flashfreeze
goes to another target if you spellward.
Positioning/Things to Know
At 100 energy the boss will do a 5 cast combo which needs to be handled by both tanks:
1) Tank 1 away from raid. 2) Tank 1 towards raid (split damage)
3) Tank 2 away from raid. 4) Tank 2 towards raid (split damage)
5) Big AoE - Run away. However in Mythic the combo is randomised (see "Tank Assignments" for more info)
Tanking Notes
After each hit the debuff "
Taeshalach's Reach
" will be applied which denotes a tank swap. ~5/6 stacks was the "sweet" spot however casts may interrupt this as it's based on melee swings
The boss will hit the nearest target to the main tank
Tank Assignments
Ensure both tanks are nearby during the normal tanking phase
When the boss does his combo, follow your assignments and stack with raid if you are not actively tanking at the time
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
Positioning/Things to Know
Swap on each 2nd stack of scythe.
Do NOT stand in front unless you are the active tank
Tanking Notes
When tanking adds, keep them apart from each other, and other adds
In last phase, stacks are permanent, so keep the boss until you die
Tank Assignments
A tank will also get a buff that allows them to split damage. You can use this to assist the player who is running (It's not 100% reliable though). Orb 1 = Tank at P2 Start. Orb 2 = Other Tank. Orb 3 = Other Tank. Orb 4 = Tank at P2 Start
If the sword add is within 20y of another add they will gain +20% dmg from his periodic cast.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Recommended Talents: (Defensive)
Blessed Hammer
,
,
Blessing of Spellwarding
You can help the runners with
Divine Shield
(and you're with them) or
Blessing of Spellwarding
(put on them) as its Shadow damage
Goroth
Positioning/Things to Know
Boss tanked around edge
Move to new area when fire fills that space
Tank with debuff moves out of the raid
Ranged are in the middle area
Tanking Notes
Stacking debuff, can't really do much about as duration is too long.
Taunt swap occurs with the massive circle
Run out with this, don't destroy pillars (or people)
CD potentially req with dot expiration and boss aoe occurring
Tank Assignments
Your job on this fight is to keep the boss around the edge of the room
If the boss moves over any pillars he will destroy them.
When the boss puts the debuff on you, you will have a large circle around you. Run out to not hit others/pillars
Hide behind pillar when boss does "Infernal Burning"
Paladin Tanking Stuff
You should take Spellwarding for Meteor Soaking (Mythic Only)
Save your horse for when you need to move out, don't use it for "Panic" movement when fire spawns in your area.
Spellwarding before the tank debuff expires makes Molten Armor not apply, Divine Shield Removes it.
Demonic Inquisition
Positioning/Things to Know
Belac isn't moveable or tankable. Belac requires an interrupt rotation to interrupt PANGS OF GUILT.
Tank Atrigan near Belac, unless the Bladestorm is inc. If Bladestorm inc, move away until it's over. If Fel Squall is up, move away to avoid accidental cleave.
Click extra action button before you get full torment. Pick up orbs to reduce torment and leave when empty.
Tanking Notes
The tank swap here is determined by the torment bar.
If you 3 tank, 1 is on interrupt duty, 1 is on the boss, 1 is inside.
If 2 tanking, clear inside room before swapping.
Go in at like 70% ish Torment
Tank Assignments
Artigan Tank: You drag this boss to and from Belac for cleave DPS. Make sure it's faced away from other people as it's cleave attacks give targets Torment.
Belac "Tank": This boss isn't actually tankable, nor does he do any melee swings, it's all magic, you're just here as an interrupt bot. If Belac has Fel Squall on it, you will gain torment per hit you do to him. Swap off him when it's up.
Cage Tank:Once inside the cage, there will be an add (with a ridiculous amount of hp). Damaging it makes it drops orbs which drops your torment level. When it's at 0 you can use the button to leave.
The strategy here is to rotate based on torment levels, so when Artigan Tank needs to go inside, Belac moves to Artigan, Cage can either stay inside or move to Belac.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Spellwarding can prevent stacks from the cage debuff being applied
Divine Shield can be used to remove stacks from being in the cage (and prevent application)
After bonesaw use AD - the melee hit here is enough to kill you if you don't have SoTR so play safe and use AD
Harjatan
Positioning/Things to Know
Every shout spawns murlocs (Two Locations)
Dodge puddles when boss sucks them in (happens every ~2 roars)
At 66% and 33% boss spawns more adds
At 100 energy boss does a conal slash, must hit 5 people min
Tanking Notes
Tank swap at around 3-4 stacks of bleed
When energy bar is full, soak the cleave (turn to raid/immune group) - Turn boss at around 80 energy
At 100 energy boss does a conal slash, must hit 5 people min
Tank murlocs under boss (point gladiator away from raid)
Tank Assignments
The key to the fight is effective debuff management, the fight speeds up over time as the boss gains more resources with each set of puddles he soaks. Strong start = Early finish.
Add management is a key part of the fight, but from study does not look to be a core aspect of it as most just die from cleave, and important effects from them can be interrupted.
Ensure the adds are tanked on the boss for optimal cleave. And make sure the Gladiator is pointed away.
Each time you get hit by a frost attack you get a debuff called "Drenched" which is a DoT and increases your frost damage taken per stack. This DoT has no duration.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
The 100 slash cone can be immuned with BoP/Divine Shield (Requires 5 people in it though). If you're in a tight spot you can use that.
You cannot remove the bleed, however BoP/Divine Shield does negate the ticks (useful for transitions)
When wavemenders are up, just tunnel them, your AS interupt spam is invaluable
Mistress Sassz'ine
Positioning/Things to Know
Keep the boss relatively central (if you can)
Hydra Shot - Does damage that cleaves from the boss to the target. Soak in a line. Be spread around the boss in 4 groups ideally.
Kill adds between boss + tornadoes
Tornadoes will spawn from one edge of the room AND GO FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER, The puddles the eels leave behind soak the tornado. Be behind these to create a "gap"
Tanking Notes
Tank swap when you receive the shadow debuff (causes physical damage to spread to raid)
Tank WITH the debuff tanks adds on the boss for cleave. Either drag out when low, or just move the boss when they die
The murlocs are threat based, but do not seem to abide by the tank threat modifier so you need to do some damage on them to gain threat on them.
Tank Assignments
Phase 1:Adds spawn, and cling to players. They deal ALOT of dmg to people they attach to. If you see a Jellyfish on the floor, go in it to get the add off you (OT picks them up).
If you're tanking the adds move out when they're low to put a puddle down to absorb a tornado.
Phase 2:A new boss enters the fight and spawns puddles around the room. Soak these puddles by running into them and move to the new boss. (Should be mostly done by DPS)He will do a suck in phase (anyone within 15y is dead). Once he eats 3 puddles, he goes away. (5 in mythic)
New boss gets angry and starts slamming their tentacle, which covers a straight line across the room (Think Star Augur - P3 Mythic Eye)
Phase 3:Boss stops doing the draw in ability, but goes back to doing tornadoes. There are no more jellyfish so its a soft enrage.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
There is a lot of raid damage going on here, keep an eye on your raid frames and save people with HoTP.
The tornadoes deal physical damage, if you see someone caught with their pants down, BoP them.
Only boss melee swings convert to raid damage, everything else doesn't (including hydra shot)
Sisters of the Moon
Positioning/Things to Know
All Phases:When you move from light/dark you take damage (based on stacks). If you get a debuff, it can be removed by changing side.
Phase 2 only: The boss spawns an add that needs to be tanked on the boss (for cleave). When it's below 30% hard swap to it (your dps counts).
Tanking Notes
P1 - Swap after each glaive, remove debuff by triggering a swap.
P2 - OT grabs add and tanks it on boss
P3 - Swap when stacks are high (2+)
Tank Assignments
Phase 1 (100%) - Tank will get a glaive on them (tank swap mechanic of the phase - move over the line to clear the debuff). Move out of the volley if it's cast near you
Phase 2 (70%) - Boss summons an add, cleave it down to 30%. When it's at 30% it starts to do pulsing raid damage. Nuke it down. The boss will target a ranged player and throw a glaive out to them which bounces back, don't be on this.
Phase 3 (40%) - Boss puts a "Beacon" on a raid member. When that beacon expires that area is gets silence patches in it. Watch out for this. Tank swap mechanic with the dot from the boss, you will swap when your stacks get high (2+).
Paladin Tanking Stuff
There is a lot of raid damage going on here, keep an eye on your raid frames and save people with HoTP.
Divine Shield removes your stacks in p3
Spellwarding useful as defensive.
The Desolate Host
Positioning/Things to Know
Raid splits between the two realms in p1 (bosses share hp)
Set up a marker for adds/scream.
Tanking Notes
Ensure that Shattering Scream hits the adds in the other realm
Tank the outside adds in a set spot, so that inside people know where to remove the shield stacks
Inside Tank: You can move the boss on the pull, but after the pull it will stay in position
You can grip/interupt and move the priestesses, however they have gaps in their rotation so they will move between casts
Tank Assignments
Outside tank: Grab aggro of the engine, and then after that you are no longer confined to be in melee range as its a caster boss
Paladin Tanking Stuff
If you're immune to Crush Mind - It casts on someone else (Spellward/Divine Shield)
You can solo soak the boss aoe in phase 2 with AD/Divine Shield/Spellwarding
Maiden of Vigilance
Positioning/Things to Know
The boss assigns the raid to Fel/Holy with a debuff - Move to the correct side. Tank debuffs are done by taking hits (Similar to Xhul'Horac)
If you are in contact with the other debuff you will become a bomb. Jump into the well in the middle ~1.5s before this runs out.
On transition, collect orbs that correlate to your colour.
Each orb increases damage and healing.
Tanking Notes
Fel and Holy tanks on opposite sides
Swap when maiden changes hammers (Think Xhul'horac).
Jump in well if your debuff mixes ~1.5s before explosion
PRO TIP: You get pinged towards where your BACK is facing. i.e. if you run forward into the well, you get bounced back at the boss
Tank Assignments
This boss is relatively straight forward, you are assigned a debuff this attains to the side you're on for the fight. Everyone is to be stood behind their sides tank, so that any cleave damage is cleaved with the raid.
AVOID taking damage from opposing abilities. When the raid is assigned colours, there is a short grace period where there is no overlapping (around 3-5 secs)
The boss will jump away periodically, when she does this, she stuns the whole raid and jumps to the other side
When you jump in the pit you get bounced back up from your bomb exploding. If you jump in too early you will not bounce high enough to get back on the platform, too late and you will explode on the raid.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
You can immune the bomb you get from the boss (if you take light hammer - the one the boss automatically puts on you) if you have Spellward/Divine Shield beforehand
Spellwarding/Divine Shield can allow you to solo soak a hammer if required.
Solo soaking Maiden Smashes Possible combos
SoTR + Eye of Tyr + AD
SoTR + Eye of Tyr + KD
SoTR + GoAK
SoTR + AD + KT
SoTR + DS/Spellwarding
Rotation For Soloing
Pull : Combo 1
Transition 1: Combo 1, Combo 5(Spellwarding)
Transition 2: Combo 1, Combo 5(DS)
Transition 3: Combo 1, Combo 3
Transition 4: Combo 1, Combo 5(Spellwarding)
Fallen Avatar
Positioning/Things to Know
When boss reaches 100 energy you push into p2
When pillars spawn, move maiden in front of it
When maiden is at 100 energy target swap to her asap. Maiden needs to die before you transition (else boss heals)
Run away from boss during "Rupture Realities".
Phase 2: Move boss to corner, and move around the edge.
Tank Notes
Swap at 2 stacks of debuff
Non-boss tank, is tanking Maiden IN THE BEAM.
P2 - Tank boss near edge to maximise the space that you have
Maiden melee's harder than Avatar.
Tanking Assignments
The concept of this strategy is to delay the boss energy gain as much as possible to have a long phase 1.
ALL Players need to be super aware of which way the daggers are facing, as all people who are in the way will get hit
.
When Maiden reaches 100 energy, we full hard swap to her to remove the shield and interrupt, if she finishes her cast it's a wipe.
The boss will destroy areas of the floor around him after Rupture Realities, you will run out of room after 4-5 Ruptures.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Save horse for Rupture realities - MOVING BACK IN. Leaving is no issue, he does no melee swings, but goes straight into attacks after, so RIP melee if you're slow.
For Rupture Realities you can use a fat CD/AD or Divine Shield/Spellward and stay in and HoTP after if you're a waddle monster
Kil'jaeden
Positioning/Things to Know
Soak barrage puddles, Big one soaked by tank or immunity.
When the shadow circle spawns, stand near it and get punted into a corner (if middle) or into the main area (if on edge)
.
Nuke shadow reflections when they spawn (stack these on boss for easy cleave).
Transition 2: Fog appears, impairing vision, adds are on the platform, CAN'T hit adds until you have buff from illidan
.
Tanking Notes
Swap at 5 stacks, CDs required for the later stacks. Deals ALOT of damage.
Soak a puddle when the barrage occurs (soak alternating sets)
If you soak the big puddle, use a heavy CD or immunity (DO NOT SOAK WITH FEL CLAWS)
Move close to impact zones for the knockback and get pointed in a corner or center
Tank Assignments
The main concept of this fight is increasing mechanical overlap over time. So perfecting mechanical knowledge early on makes the rest of the fight easier.
"At the start of the fight there are two main raid mechanics, soaking barrage circles:
Small Circles = Solo Soak
Large Circle = Tank with big CD or anyone with an Immunity"
Swap to reflections ASAP (they should be dunked on the boss), they take priority over boss dmg (if you can afford to target swap)
.
Transition 2:A thick fog covers the room and you need to kill all the adds to end this. You cannot hit an add unless you have the buff from illidan. If you find illidan in the fog he gives you demon vision allowing you to hit stuff and see stuff. If someone finds Illidan, say on voice comms so we can all go there.
Paladin Tanking Stuff
Fel Claws is not an auto attack, so Blessed Hammer does NOT work against this, if you want to mitigate this, pick Holy Shield.
You cannot remove stacks of Fel Claws with Divine Shield.
You can negate the damage from Fel Claws with BoP/Divine Shield.
