Echoes of Pain is a Mythic only ability which cause players with Shadowsteel Chains to erupt a row of spikes in each direction when the boss tosses his weapon at the tank.

The waves of spikes in Phase Two are also different, because Spiked Balls will move across the platform making it more difficult for players to navigate.

On the last wave of Shadowsteel Embers, the impact will create Shadowsteel Horrors who must be killed before their Final Scream cast is finishes.

Additional Mythic Mechanics

We highly recommend bringing a Protection Paladin and a second mobile tank such as a Brewmaster Monk or Protection Warrior.

It is highly recommended to have 3 - 5 classes in the raid who bring movement cooldowns, such as Druids and Shaman.

Mythic ability timings are significantly different from Heroic, however the one common timing throughout each phase is that every other tank mechanic will happen while Shadowsteel Chains are active.

This means that only toss weapon 1, 3, and 5 in each phase will trigger Echoes of Pain, while 2, 4, and 6 will happen while no Shadowsteel Chains are active.

Phase One: 100% - 70.5%

Phase One Positioning.

Shadowsteel Chains

Following this positioning will allow the raid to be safe from Echoes of Pain, while still providing adequate space to move around and deal with Flameclasp Traps.

Each time a wave of Spiked Balls appear, target the one closest to the raid on the end of the row.

Spiked Balls sets always spawn right after the boss tosses his weapon at the tank, so make sure the raid is in the safe area, and waits for the Echoes of Pain to trigger before moving towards the Spiked Balls.

Once a Spiked Balls is killed, the raid can move through, followed by the players with Shadowsteel Chains, after which the whole raid can double back to the safe area.

Place Flameclasp Trap on the edges of the platform, within the safe zone. The off tank can run over these one-by-one while healers use cooldowns to keep the raid alive.

The boss should be pushed to 70.5% to trigger the Intermission before the 6th weapon toss happens, as that will start the soft enrage of the phase.

Intermission

Phase Two Warlock Gateway position.

Set up a Warlock Gateway as shown in the diagram above, because this will be used during the Intermission.

After the start of Phase Two, Black Flames will spawn at player locations and randomly throughout the platform every 5 seconds.

Phase Two consists of a total of nine waves of spikes, where waves 1, 5, 6 and 8 will always have safe gaps in the center, while waves 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9 will have alternating gaps on either side.

Chain Wind-Rush Totems and Stampeding Roars to keep up permanent movement speed increases through Phase Two to make navigating easier.

Two waves of Spiked Balls will also spawn in this phase, on every other tile. The first wave will roll across the platform from Right to Left, while the second wave will roll the opposite direction.

Phase Two: 70.5% - 40.5%

Phase 2 Positioning.

All cooldowns should be used at the beginning of the phase to kill the Shadowsteel Horrors before they finish their Final Scream cast.

Phase 2 will be similar to the first with a few minor adjustments.

The safe corner the raid will use will depend on which direction the Spiked Balls are rolling from. Always use the closest corner after moving through the wall of Spiked Balls.

The weapon toss ability will happen slightly after a wall of Spike Balls spawn, so it is crucial the whole raid stays in the safe corner until Echoes of Pain are triggered.

The Reverberating Hammer will cause ripples of spikes to travel towards the raid after each weapon toss. We suggest waiting for the spikes to travel until there are only 1 - 3 rows of tiles left to the edge before crossing.

On the third, and fifth weapon toss, the three targets with Shadowsteel Chains should adjust one square away from the wall of Spiked Balls to give the raid more space to remain safe.

The boss should be below 42.9% before the third set of Flameclasp Traps, which will cause him to not cast them.

Wait for the sixth weapon toss, then move through the ripples to the safe area before pushing the boss to 40.5% to trigger the second Intermission.

Phase 3: 40.5 - 0%

Phase 3 Positioning.

The last phase is different in terms of ability timings, and positioning.

The Dualblade Scythe weapon toss timing in this phase happens after the the Spiked Balls are already rolling across the platform.

The tank will be required to cross across the Spiked Balls to the far corner from the raid, while the players with Shadowsteel Chains shift to the complete opposite edge of the platform to give the raid space to dodge Echoes of Pain.

As soon as the Spiked Balls spawn the whole raid should immediately start running to the closest edge and start killing the Spiked Balls to create a gap.

The first two sets of Flameclasp Traps should be placed in the safe corner near the raid. However, the third set should be placed towards the center of the platform, because spikes will be traveling inwards from the edge of the platform indicating the soft-enrage of the encounter.

Painsmith Raznal Tips and Tricks

All players should set the side of the Warlock Gateway closer to the entrance to their focus, which can be done with the following macro:

All players should have Interact With Mouseover keybound to interact with the focus frame to take the gateway. This keybind can be found under the Targeting Tab.

DPS

2 and 3 minute cooldowns can be used at the beginning of each phase as long as the raid keeps the push timings consistent for each Phase Two.

The raid should have a few classes with strong aoe burst damage, such as Retribution Paladin, Windwalker Monk, Arcane Mage, etc. to ensure the Shadowsteel Horrors die quickly at the start of each phase.

Use combat potion, and Time Warp at the start of the last phase to ensure the raid meets the damage check.

Healer

The main sources of damage on this encounter are from Flameclasp Eruption, Lingering Flames, Black Flames and weapon tosses.

Healing cooldowns should be assigned each time the tank is activating Flameclasp Traps. We recommend overlapping a damage reduction and a throughput cooldown for this event as it typically coincides with a weapon toss as well.

Lingering Flames damage will increase after each intermission, making Phase Three the most difficult part of the encounter from a healing perspective.

With our strategy, players with Shadowsteel Chains will take the most damage in Phase Two, however in Phase Three they will be slightly safer due to being a larger distance from the tank.

Healers who can heal on the move are extremely beneficial during the Intermission, where healing throughput is required to keep up with Black Flames damage.

Tank

In Phase One, the raid should only have to deal with a single set of Flameclasp Traps, which should be detonated by the tank who is not going to be targeted by the weapon toss at the time.

In Phase Two, all traps should be detonated before the ripple spikes from the Reverberating Hammer reaches them.

In Phase Three, the first two sets of traps should be detonated similar to Phase Two, however the third set will need to be done very quickly, as ripples of spikes will be closing in from both sides.

In Phase Three, mobility becomes somewhat of an issue, as the tank always needs to cross the Spiked Balls to drop the Dualblade Scythe in the corner adjacent to the raid.

We recommend utilizing abilities such as Door of Shadows, Transcendence, Blessing of Protection, or other abilities that prevent stuns coupled with a large damage reduction cooldown to walk through the Spiked Balls.
