Learn how to defeat the Artifact Challenge encounter,
The God-Queen's Fury
, as a Demonology Warlock. In this guide, we'll go over optimal talents, legendaries, gear, consumables, and spec-specific tips.
This guide is about the Legion version of the Mage Tower Challenge, that isn't accessible anymore.

Demonology Warlock Challenge Appearance
In this section I will go over the strategy for the Demonology Warlock Challenge Appearance!
The artifact appearance is a unique reward from completing a challenging solo scenario that can only be entered while the Mage Tower building is active on the Broken Shore. It rewards a unique artifact appearance.
Video Alternative
If you feel it's easier to learn by seeing I have a video of me completing the challenge with multiples periods of messing up but being able to recover regardless.
Preparation
Herein lies some of the things you can do to prepare for the Mage Tower Artifact Challenge. Some of these items will simply make it easier for you to complete the challenge but there are no required items.
Gear
In this scenario there are a multitude of mechanics in place and not much in terms of actual DPS checks, therefore you can complete this challenge at nearly any item level, however the higher your item level the easier it will be since these challenges were completed as low as ilvl 900, but at this stage of legion it shouldn't be hard to get somewhere around the 920+ Item level point, as such it is reccomended to have around 920 with 66 traits in your weapon.
Personally I completed the artifact challenge with
Kazzak's Final Curse
and
Wilfred's Sigil of Superior Summoning
but you can use any legendary combination you have.
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus
is particularly good for survivability and could allow for less optimal play with the extra effective health you gain from it. Any item level 1000 legendary should do fine, there isn't really a legendary that helps or hurts to have in this scenario.
Consumables
Drums of Fury
Flask of the Whispered Pact
Azshari Salad
or
Lavish Suramar Feast
Defiled Augment Rune
Potion of Prolonged Power
Talents
There isn't really a set in stone and definitive guideline in terms of talent choices. There are actually a fair number of options available to us since we have quite an extensive set of tools at our disposal. I'll go over some talents that I've found were useful or successful and why I think they are good or not as good.
Tier 1:
Demonic Calling
is likely the best option as it requires no set up and simply happens as you do DPS.
Shadowy Inspiration
is a close second option as you will have a considerable amount of movement and
Shadowflame
is nearly useless as it requires you to focus on it a lot to get maximum benefit.
Tier 2:
Impending Doom
and
Improved Dreadstalkers
are interchangeable in this situation. Both will result in similar benefits with
Implosion
being almost unusable.
Tier 3:
Mortal Coil
I think is the most useful talent in this row since it not only provides you with a heal every 45s if you need it but also gives you an option for fearing
Sigryn
instantly to interrupt her cast.
Demonic Circle
can be useful for quickly moving away from
Jarl Velbrand
but there are many other options that available to you to counter him.
Tier 4:
As always
Hand of Doom
always has a place; it allows you to have 1 less thing to pay attention to and draw your focus away from mechanics but
Power Trip
can be equally as good if you can focus on maintaining
Doom
and all the mechanics at once. I found no use for
Soul Harvest
. Being able to meet the DPS requirements for this challenge should be no issue at this stage of the expansion.
Tier 5:
Burning Rush
is usable to get to/away from mechanics quickly but is not needed with proper planning.
Demon Skin
is a more well rounded option that bolsters your effective health without being an on use ability since it removes the requirement be casting a damaging ability to recharge the shield. Depending on your item level
Demon Skin
lets you survive mechanics that ordinarily you shouldn't be able to.
Tier 6:
Grimoire of Supremacy
finally found a VERY solid use for Demonology with summoning your Doomguard as your permanent pet. It provides a decent DPS option but gives you the ability to cast
Cripple
on
Jarl Velbrand
during his Enrage and also interrupt
Runeseer Faljar
with
Shadow Lock
. There are cases where you can use
Grimoire of Service
summoning Felhunter to interrupt but it is risky as you can potentially summon it too early or hit the "hard DPS check" where you have to interrupt constantly, taking value away from this talent significantly.
Grimoire of Synergy
has no use.
Tier 7:
You can essentially use any one of these talents with similar results. There is no defined choice in this row.
Soul Conduit
is recommended just for its simplicity and ease of use.
Doing the Scenario
This fight doesn't really have phases as some other scenarios do but rather a number of mechanics that if executed properly will result in a kill with nearly any lull or lack of DPS. As such I'll go over what each mob does and how you can counter them.
Sigryn
abilities
Periodically three
Runic Detonation
will spawn in the room, simply run over them to de-activate them ideally running over the smallest one first as its size relates to how much time untill it explodes.
Sigryn
has 4 major abilities that you will have to avoid or control:
Throw Spear
: Throws her spear to the ground and creates a Fel Fissure that deals damage to you. This ability is fairly simple and only requires you to move out of the graphic until you no longer have the debuff.
Dark Wings
: Summons a row of Val'kyr that you have to find the opening of in the line and stand there before they charge at you. She has both a voice line
"I command legions, mortal!"
and an emote dealing 2+ million damage to you if you fail to avoid it.
Advance
: Randomly charges you and knocks you back, minor annoyance but overall nothing serious to worry about here.
Blood of the Father
:
This ability is by far the most deadly, when the cast is complete she empowers herself with fel energy and does massive AoE damage. The easiest way to deal with this is to simply use
Mortal Coil
on the initial cast, which prevents the buff from being applied.
If she successfully gets this cast off it is almost certainly going to end in your demise unless you are quick to react and use cooldowns appropriately. You can cas
Fear
if she gets it off to buy you some time, but be prepared to do everything you can to survive if this gets off.
Jarl Velbrand
abilities
Jarl Velbrand
has 3 major abilities that you will have to avoid or control:
Hurl Axe
: Simple ability to either avoid or tank the damage of; it is easily avoided but also easy to tank the damage of as it is fairly minor and between
Soul Leech
and
Demon Skin
you should be able to ignore this ability.
Bladestorm
: this ability is just a whirlwind effect that slowly pulls you in towards
Jarl Velbrand
, it is very easily avoided by simply walking away from him.
Berserker's Rage
: The most deadly of
Jarl Velbrand
's abilities, empowering his damage and attack speed making him very deadly in the process. Ths ability is easily countered and can be ignored by using
Grimoire of Supremacy
with Doomguard and having him cast
Cripple
, not only does
Jarl Velbrand
move 40% slower with his own
Berserker's Rage
cast but is made even slower, and by default eliminates him from the fight, by
Cripple
. If he does end up getting too close you can have your
Demonic Gateway
set up for an easy way to get across the map from him with barely any effort.
Runeseer Faljar
abilities
Runeseer Faljar
has 2 major abilities that you will have to avoid or control:
Shadowbolt
: Minor damage, completely ignore the option to interrupt the cast.
Ancestral Knowledge
: The most deadly of
Runeseer Faljar
's abilities, this is a channelled spell that you must break in order to interrupt or face wiping. It is the
only
DPS check in the entire encounter and only requires you do deal 5 million damage to
Runeseer Faljar
in order to break the shield and make the channel interruptable. This is another excellent use of
Grimoire of Supremacy
with Doomguard to have the option of interrupting freely with
Shadow Lock
, making an even stronger case for
Grimoire of Supremacy
as it double dips uses. You could potentially save your
Thal'kiel's Consumption
to help with meeting the DPS requirement but in most cases it is not required.
Entire fight
Drums of Fury
are best used on the pull.
The best way to handle this scenario is to prioritize which mechanics to focus on, your priority should always be to interrupt
Blood of the Father
with
Mortal Coil
, secondly you must stay away from
Berserker's Rage
, using
Cripple
, followed by breaking (and interrupting) the
Ancestral Knowledge
. Afterwards you should prioritize on running over
Runic Detonation
and dodging
Dark Wings
. After that the remaining mechanics are fairly simple to deal with and if you can handle the above mechanics correctly you should be able to complete the encounter easily. This fight is a survival fight and can take anywhere from 5 to 10 mins depending on execution and gear.
If you find yourself in a rough situation due to warlocks innate survivability even if you make a mistake you may be able to simply heal through it/survive it with proper useage of
Unending Resolve
and
Drain Life
.
Once Sigryn reaches 20% health the encounter will end, and all of them share health so it doesn't matter which of the three you are hitting too much, cleave as much as possible!
Congratulations on your new Artifact Skin!
