A-Tier Specs for Midnight Season 1 Raids

Warrior brings Battle Shout, which is valuable, especially if guilds aren’t interested in playing DPS warriors, which looks possible this tier. Warrior also brings Rallying Cry, which was nerfed substantially in Dragonflight and is much less of a consideration than it used to be. The spec was slightly reworked for Midnight, with a few buttons going away but the core of the spec remains the same.

Even though Warriors may not bring much else to the table in terms of utility, their damage is strong and they are extremely durable against Physical damage. Any heavy unblockable damage is dangerous, any DoTs are annoying, and any combination of the two can be lethal, but if the raid buff situation is as favorable as it looks for Prot Warriors, many will look to pick up a sword and shield and Ignore Pain their way through the raids!

B-Tier Specs for Midnight Season 1 Raids

Guardian brings Mark of the Wild, which has historically not been an especially strong selling point for the spec because there have been other strong Druid specs that most guilds have wanted to use. This is looking somewhat more interesting this tier, with the DPS Druids maybe in trouble but Restoration still looking to be an easy way to bring Mark of the Wild. Guardian's Midnight rework was very minor, with the biggest change being an attempt to remove Ironfur mashing and turn it into a bit more of an interesting decision to use optimally, while remaining non-punishing if used slightly suboptimally.

One nice thing about playing Guardian is the hero talent choice, where Druid of the Claw offers lots of single-target damage if you can catweave well, while Elune’s Chosen offers a comfier playstyle for multi-target situations or for players who don’t want to ever leave Bear form. Though Guardian isn’t typically thought of as having a lot of utility, the value of Stampeding Roar and Innervate shouldn’t be underestimated!

Guardian Druid's damage is quite good but it was nerfed very heavily just before the season started. To get full damage out of it you must be extremely skilled, but it is still the top damage tank if you are, and it works well into damage burns such as Belo'ren's Egg phases - provided you have a skilled pilot!

Blood Death Knight can be very durable in raids when played well, which matters more in some tiers than others. Their midnight rework was subtle changes to how Death Strike works under the hood, shifting some power out of the class' abilities and increasing baseline armor to compensate. In addition, Dancing Rune Weapon took effectiveness and duration nerfs. All of this has left Blood DK feeling squishier than it did in previous expansions, but in Raid it should still be a solid survivability choice when piloted well. They’re also very durable against incoming magical damage, which can be a weakness for other Tanks.

The Death Knight utility suite of Anti-Magic Zone and grip are both great, though their value depends on the fight. Blood Death Knights don’t technically bring a raid buff, which combined with their nerfed survivability is the main reason we're tiering them in B-tier for now.

Brewmasters bring Mystic Touch, which historically has been the raid buff most often needed from the Tank role, though Windwalker in particular also looks like a solid choice this tier. Like most specs, Brewmaster was reworked going into Midnight, removing some more buttons like Rising Sun Kick and reducing the total number of defensive cooldowns that they have access to. The good news is that the spec does great without needing to rely on defensives, especially in a raid environment where their high effective health can be supplemented with lots of external healing. Though it's simpler than some previous iterations, it's still one of the more punishing specs for newer tanks.

C-Tier Specs for Midnight Season 1 Raids

Vengeance Demon Hunter brings Chaos Brand, an incredibly powerful and mandatory raid buff. Most tiers have seen Havoc filling that raid buff role, and this tier they are joined by Devourer as a new option, but Vengeance is still worth considering! The Midnight rework removed Fel-Scarred as an option for Vengeance and replaced it with Annihilator, which does look great but doesn't change the gameplay much.

The good news is that Vengeance can do solid damage and also be quite durable, though there is more of a tradeoff between offense and defense for Vengeance than for most other Tanks, as you not only have to adjust your build but also have several cooldowns that can be used for either offense or defense, which means you often have to choose between doing high damage or being tanky. Though there is a lot of utility available to Vengeance Demon Hunters, much of it is more aimed at dungeons than raids.

Paladins bring Devotion Aura, which is very valuable and is something that most top guilds have historically covered with a Holy Paladin, though this has become more flexible in recent tiers, and now the prospect of the buff coming from a Prot Paladin is always a consideration. The Midnight rework to the spec was medium-sized, with Eye of Tyr's removal shaking up the Templar playstyle in particular. The design goal was to make the baseline durability of the spec higher and less reliant on standing in Consecration, though it can still feel quite punishing to make a mistake on this spec, with random tank deaths feeling more likely for the average Prot Paladin than some of the other tank specs.

The Paladin utility suite is incredible and can feel irreplaceable on fights where Blessing of Spellwarding is useful. Aside from Spellwarding, other Paladin utility effects can also be very useful, and having them on your Tank is often ideal, but there are usually solid replacement options if you don’t have one. Paladins are in our top tier, but it’s worth noting that some guilds will need to source other raid buffs or potentially Death Knight utility from their Tanks, so whether you want a Prot Paladin will depend on whether the rest of your composition creates the space for one.

Ah yes, the TIER list with effectively one TIER. What a great TIER list. I love when they use all of the TIERs like this. All of the 1 TIER.
