Purifying Brew and Celestial Brew/Celestial Infusion, which often make them more suited for progression raiding, while the Shado-Pan talents offer passive damage reduction from consistent dodging like you would experience in an AoE environment such as Mythic+. However, the decision can ultimately come down to personal preference or tuning in a given season; though at present, Shado-Pan's damage quickly gains an advantage at two or more targets while remaining effectively equal in single-target combat.

Best Brewmaster Monk Raid Talent Build

Your main focus in determining a single-target raid build will be how much you need to bolster your defenses. In particular, are you comfortable playing with Expel Harm in a way that rewards quick reactions, or would you benefit more from the steady healing offered by turning Healing Spheres into a HoT with Niuzao's Resolve? Are you overwhelmed by the rotation already, or can you handle Black Ox Brew and altering your rotation during Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox? These questions form the core differences between the Standard and Advanced builds below, though other distinctions are noted for each. Make sure to check the "Talent Choices Explained" tab to see the other nodes you may wish to talent into or out of based on a given encounter for a more flexible build in between the two!

This build sacrifices a bit of offensive power for an overall simpler and safer experience, making it an ideal build for players learning to play Brewmaster Monk in a raid setting. It's also a great setup for players in progression raiding environments looking to maximize survivability. In particular, it opts into Niuzao's Resolve, Awakening Spirit, and Tranquil Spirit for a fair bit of passive defense. If you need even more defense, consider dropping the point of Walk with the Ox for High Tolerance or Ox Stance.

If maximum damage is what you are after, this build is catered more toward that goal while sacrificing a bit of defensive power in the process. However, this will require you to effectively play around Expel Harm for self-healing due to no longer using Niuzao's Resolve. It similarly will ask you to master the Black Ox Brew ability for resource management, and also includes the rotational pressure of altering the priority of Keg Smash while Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox is active. Consider a talent approach that's between this build and the standard variant if you do not wish to go "all in" on the shift in playstyle.

Flex Talents and When to Consider Them

Improved Blackout Kick/Swift as a Coursing River - These two talents offer near-identical damage boosts regardless of Hero Talent choice or target count. With that being said, Shado-Pan players will slightly favor Swift as a Coursing River due to its increase in Flurry Strikes generation. When aiming to maximize your damage, you can also select both talents.
Niuzao's Resolve - If you are in a situation where you need to be in more direct control of your health, particularly if needing to react to consecutive spikes of damage, then it may make sense to not use this talent. It is otherwise a strong default choice, particularly when learning the specialization.
Tranquil Spirit - While it will not help you survive massive hits of damage, this talent considerably reduces your healing burden over time.
High Tolerance - This talent stands to become one of your biggest optional defensive gains under most circumstances when you feel in need of it.
Counterstrike - While its damage potential is decent, this talent is unable to trigger if you are not always tanking or are fighting an enemy whose attacks cannot be dodged; consider it something nice to have in raid, but not needed if a point's demanded elsewhere.
Awakening Spirit - This talent sort of emulates the Mantra of Purity node available to Master of Harmony Brewmasters, rewarding you with extra mitigation when casting Purifying Brew. However, it is less useful against larger, infrequent hits than multiple smaller ones for the sake of reducing your healing burden. Its total value is also limited to encounters with only one or two enemies.
Vital Flame - When fighting three or more enemies on a regular basis in an encounter, this talent's healing results in more total mitigation than the alternative of Awakening Spirit.
Fuel on the Fire - For add-heavy encounters, this talent offers an extra bit of burst threat to your Exploding Keg, but is often difficult to pick up without compromising your defenses.

Niche/Utility Talents and When to Consider Them

Class Tree

Detox - Consider taking this when an encounter features more Poison and Disease dispels than your Healers can reliably cover on their own.
Pressure Points - While Enrage effects are generally rare in raid environments, you have the ability to deal with them through this talent.
Save Them All - Although this talent claims to affect all of your healing done, it will only work on a very small number of Brewmaster abilities which includes Chi Burst/Chi Wave and Harmonic Surge. Still, it is a talent you are able to select whenever Summon Black Ox Statue is not necessary.
Swift Art - By being able to remove snare effects with Roll on occasion, you may have the opportunity to then cast Tiger's Lust on an ally and remove a similar effect from them at the same time. Just remember that this talent will not remove root effects!
Diffuse Magic - Some encounters may feature a dangerous debuff on a tank that can be dispelled, but these usually revolve around a healer doing that task at a set moment. Consider this alternative in rare circumstances when your healers are taxed and you were already planning to use Fortifying Brew anyway.
Chi Transfer - It is nice to be able to make Touch of Death an even more defensive ability (especially when paired with Improved Touch of Death), but this talent is hindered by being in a section of the talent tree that is extremely tight on points while its heal is unlikely to be lifesaving. Still, it is more than nothing.
Transcendence: Linked Spirits - Although there are usually better uses for regular Transcendence, including the ability to reset raid encounters, there may be the rare moment where you can take advantage of teleporting directly to another player rather than a set location. Remember to apply the link to someone first!

Spec Tree

Elixir of Determination - While its effect is still a potent defensive option for a Brewmaster, this node's lack of meaningful connections at the top of the tree makes it tough to select in all but the most defensive builds.
Celestial Flames - This talent offers a relatively modest and random damage boost, and is tough to budget into most builds. Still, it can be done if you are willing to sacrifice most defensive choices as an alternative path to Walk with the Ox.
One With the Wind - If an encounter features a series of important attacks to dodge, having a chance of not resetting your Mastery: Elusive Brawler may make all the difference in survival; it similarly is a lower-priority defensive talent.
Ox Stance - If an encounter features regular Tankbuster hits for large portions of your health, this talent is fantastic for boosting your Stagger specifically in those dangerous moments. Its stacks will otherwise frequently go unused across an entire encounter.

Best Brewmaster Monk Mythic+ Talent Build

Mythic+ is often an environment where a combination of AoE and priority-target damage is helpful. Similarly, as there is only one healer present, tanks are expected to be a bit more self-sufficient, though they also frequently take less significant damage than a raid until reaching sufficiently high keystone levels. Due to this, you'll find that a more standard Mythic+ build opts into damage-dealing while an advanced one opts into defense—the opposite of what usually happens in builds made for raiding instead.

With the massive amount of different scenarios you'll encounter in a mythic+ dungeon, there is a lot more flexibility to consider. For example, this build defaults to Niuzao's Resolve and Bob and Weave for a smoother healing experience, but like the advanced raid build above you will eventually be expected to handle regular use of Expel Harm and Black Ox Brew in higher keystone levels. Likewise, Detox and Pressure Points are not always required in a dungeon, but be warned that not having them when you do need them can be a serious mistake. As you push into higher keystone levels, your defenses suddenly become more relevant as a Brewmaster. This alternative build highlights some of the talents you will likely pick up to do so, such as High Tolerance, Zen State, or even Elixir of Determination and Ox Stance. It will also expect you to master both Black Ox Brew and traditional Healing Sphere consumption through Expel Harm by not selecting Niuzao's Resolve. Flex Talents and When to Consider Them

Class Tree

Bounding Agility - When a dungeon may not allow you to mount, the extra distance travelled by Roll and Chi Torpedo will quickly add up over time.
Detox - If the dungeon you are running features dangerous Poison or Disease effects, this talent represents a powerful piece of added utility. See our dedicated Mythic+ page for a list of which dungeons this applies to in the current season!
Pressure Points - Any dungeon featuring Enrage effects can benefit from you having the ability to deal with them through this talent. See our dedicated Mythic+ page for a list of which dungeons this applies to in the current season!
Improved Touch of Death - While it is less difficult to cast Touch of Death in a dungeon where enemies are taking less damage, this talent can still be useful against bosses as an extra bit of Stagger removal.
Peace and Prosperity - Ring of Peace is often heavily featured in dungeons, and a small amount of cooldown reduction will naturally result in more uses over time.
Summon Black Ox Statue - There may be times when adds need to be drawn away but still Tanked. Your use of this statue can do this effectively as a Tank, or you can even utilize its AoE Provoke effect when threat is especially an issue. Finally, there can even be the odd bit of unexpected utility involving the manipulation of enemy AI now and then.
Windwalking - Due to an abundance of spare talent points, you may be able to regularly make use of this talent's additional movement speed for your entire party.

Spec Tree

Improved Blackout Kick/Swift as a Coursing River - You will always select one of these two talents, with each offering a negligible difference in your overall performance. However, Swift as a Coursing River does provide Shado-Pan Brewmasters with a small boost to their Flurry Strikes generation alongside an always-helpful movement speed bonus.
Niuzao's Resolve - Although this talent is a strong default choice for most key levels, at a certain point you may need to be in more direct control of your health as a Brewmaster by taking advantage of Expel Harm. Once you have reached key levels where this is the case, switch out of this talent and select a different defensive choice.
Walk with the Ox - This talent only provides a source of passive damage, with its second point roughly doubling the proc rate while maintaining the same amount of damage per hit. As such, it is an easy talent to drop when in need of defense at higher key levels, though you should still keep at least one point.
Zen State/Tranquil Spirit/High Tolerance - These talents represent your biggest optional defensive gains under most circumstances when you feel in need of them. They are fairly interchangeable, though Zen State is the most potent for its investment and Tranquil Spirit the least.
Fuel on the Fire - While this talent does provide additional healing after every Exploding Keg thanks to Vital Flame, its overall power is low and is likely the first talent to drop when in need of more defense.
Empty the Cellar - Though this talent's damage and cooldown reduction is significant, each of its thrown kegs will only deal single-target damage rather than AoE. Still, it is a deceptively strong talent for defense.

Niche/Utility Talents and When to Consider Them

Class Tree

Vivacious Vivification - While this talent does enable frequent usage of Vivify for added healing, it will rarely be an effective use of an ability over something more productive. Still, it has moments of strength when you are truly alone without a healer, and is something of a "default" choice when considering the spare points available in this section of the class tree.
Energy Transfer - Dungeons tend to feature a much larger number of effects to interrupt, giving you ample opportunity to accrue cooldown reduction on Paralysis in particular. However, it can be hard to fit this point in over something more generally useful.
Hasty Provocation - Use this in the odd dungeon where a boss or other enemy needs to quickly move out of an area, even at the cost of players potentially losing uptime.
Spirit's Essence - As you usually have enough mobility on your own to kite with ease, a pre-placed Transcendence for kiting becomes even more powerful with this talent's potent snare.
Swift Art - By being able to remove snare effects with Roll on occasion, you may have the opportunity to then cast Tiger's Lust on an ally and remove a similar effect from them at the same time. Just remember that this talent will not remove root effects!
Diffuse Magic - Having access to an extra dispel in a group where usually only the healer can remove Magic debuffs is an excellent prospect, but being tied to your strongest defensive cooldown of Fortifying Brew greatly limits this talent's potential; the redirection effect is also usually irrelevant.
Chi Transfer - If you would like to turn your frequent Touch of Death casts into a more powerful defensive tool, this talent is great for the job. Its greatest problem is being in the bottom of the class tree where the point investment can be tough to justify.

Spec Tree

Elixir of Determination - With only one healer present, Mythic+ dungeons tend to ask for a bit more self-reliance from tanks; this talent gives you an extra cushion in dangerous moments to help with that task, but its lack of noteworthy pathing to other talents makes it difficult to recommend if you don't truly need its defense; you will have to sacrifice Special Delivery/Rushing Jade Wind to select it.
Celestial Flames - The increased range on Rushing Jade Wind while this talent's buff is active is its greatest benefit in a dungeon. Unfortunately, its random nature and poor tree placement renders it difficult to spend a point on unless this slight increase in AoE damage is what you desire.
One With the Wind - In higher key levels where dodging boss autoattacks can be useful, this talent gains (limited) use. Otherwise, you are likely exceeding 100% dodge on a regular basis when fighting groups of enemies, negating much of its value.
Anvil and Stave - While this talent is presented as a counterpart to High Tolerance, it is a strictly inferior option to it if you are good about using Purifying Brew with Elevated Stagger to maximize its cooldown reduction instead. Only consider selecting this when you need every last bit of defensive power.
Ox Stance - If your key level features regular Tankbuster hits for large portions of your health, this talent is fantastic for boosting your Stagger during those dangerous moments. That said, it's also important to consider the value of this talent versus another point of High Tolerance.
Mighty Stomp - The additional knock-up effect this talent offers to each cast of Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox is helpful as a source of enemy disruption. However your groups will frequently have access to abilities that do not move the enemies to stop their attacks, which is more favorable for AoE damage. Beyond this, your talent point budget makes this difficult to acquire.

Best Brewmaster Monk Delve Talent Build

Delves are frequently run solo by players, which creates an emphasis on self-healing and perhaps even some additional passive defense. Here, the Master of Harmony Hero Talents again have a slight advantage due to the buffs they provide to Tiger Palm especially. Regardless, in this type of content especially, you can certainly complete it even with the Shado-Pan talents and may even prefer the more passive AoE from Stand Ready.

Due to Delves and Open World content not expecting you to have a healer present, your incoming damage will be easier to handle and allow you to opt into more offensive talents by default. Although it still selects Niuzao's Resolve by default, you can certainly play without it here, or even attempt to follow the advanced raid build above by trying out Fluidity of Motion for an even faster rotation.

This build is aimed at content that is trivial enough for you to likely to defeat any enemies in your path with a single hit. As such, it focuses on selecting as many talents as possible for mobility, passive damage, and enemy gathering. You can expect to see some talents used here that rarely, if ever, see play in maximum-level content. Don't forget to bring a Charged Phial of Alacrity, Exquisitely Eviscerated Muscle, and all of your speed-increasing gear!

Bob and Weave appears to be bugged. I assume it has been nerfed from 10 sec (13sec with Bob and weave) to 7 secs (10secs with Bob and Weave), but Mine is staying at 7 secs even regardless if I select Bob and Weave for my talent.

Just made this Monk recently but this is what I have noticed during testing. Hope this gets fixed or explained.

Played monk for many years, I'd always take Healing Elixir over BaW or Dampen. I've found both to be lackluster CDs when it comes to pugging M+ and in general. A 15% heal on a 30 sec CD is crucial in many situations, especially with the need to purify much larger amounts of stagger for celestial brew to give a decent shield. That's just my two cents and I notice a cookie cutters are spiky in M+ and the highest M+ Monks actually use Healing Elixir for likely the same reason I do. Almost 300 days /played as BrM and find Dampen to be a terrible choice.

I'm not sure if Stormstout's Last Keg was not the go-to legendary at the time this guide was written, but the section on Blackout Combo needs an update to reflect that Blackout Kick can be used on cooldown, and still manage to buff every single Keg Smash with it, without wasting any resources.

For the first build should I drop Bonedust Brew to get the Stormstout's Last Keg talent? It's a fresh 60, no legendary and may not bother so close to DF launch.

I would recommend updating your builds especially the M+ example! Bob and weave is not a strong choice when comparing it to the alternative which is Black Ox Brew which provides you an on demand reset to two of your biggest defensives while also providing you a full energy top off. There is also a definite use case for swapping Light Brewing for Training of Niuzao which provides a massive mastery gain that contributes to an increase in damage while also offering a contribution to your elusive brawler.

Tell me you made the mythic build without testing it. Empty the Cellar is either currently not working properly or just a bad talent. In live if you use it, it automatically targets nearby mobs not the ones your fighting causing accidental pulls. We did a +12 dawnbreaker and the large church pull I pulled both packs on the bridge and inside the church and Empty the cellar pulled the mini boss through walls. Useless and bad talent, maybe do some testing before giving bad information to people.

Another season putting Master of Harmony as the best build for M+. Just check the Warcraft Logs from beta to see that this suggestion is completely wrong.
