Recommended Fire Mage WeakAuras
WeakAuras2 is an extremely flexible addon, with near limitless creative potential and control, capable of replicating or replacing nearly any part of the user interface. While designed as a simple way to create alerts to remind you of buffs, debuff, or encounter mechanics, it has become an integral part of World of Warcraft user interface customization, allowing players to replace their traditional action bars, create and share complex raid information, track other players spell casts, and much, much more. In this section, we've highlighted some of the best WeakAuras for Fire Mage, although there are so many different options available that we
highly
recommend visiting
wago.io
to find one that best suits your needs.
WeakAuras Links
Remember that no Weakauras are ever mandatory to play with, but they can help condense a lot of information into a small, easy-to-track package. These are some sample sets that cover the Fire basics which are plug and play, or can be used for some inspiration when setting up your own set:
Name & Link
Example
Description
Luxthos’ Mage Package
A dynamic package that will cover all of the main things you need to track for Mage abilities and rotation in a lightweight group. Luxthos also creates similar packages for all other classes, so this is recommended for beginners and experienced players who play many different characters.
Afenar's Mage WeakAuras
Afenar no longer updates, but others have continued the project. A popular Mage package, not as customizable as Luxthos but still a strong set in it's own right.
Porom's WeakAura Pack
Porom's pack, built upon Afenar's but specialized for Mage's who are already familiar with the class and are looking for a more mage-centric creation as opposed to the above packs which are made for every class.
Sun King's Blessing Tracker
My weakaura that shows stacks
Sun King's Blessing
stacks and shows a UI element with duration when it is available.
Hyperthermia Tracker
My weakaura that shows when
Hyperthermia
is available.
Recommended Fire Mage Macros
Macros are simple, in-game tools which allow you to sequence spells together, create custom names and icons, cast different abilities depending on whether the target is friendly or hostile, define targeting conditions, and much, much more.
For more information on creating macros, including full lists of conditionals, modifiers, and other command customizations you can use, check out our full Macros guide.
These can be created in the Macros window by simply copy and pasting the coded code into the creator. These will perform specific actions above the regular button presses that can alleviate some targeting issues or ability problems by automating part of the ability:
Mouseover Macros
In some cases being able to
Counterspell
or
Remove Curse
on targets without having to switch targets is extremely useful. You can use the following macro to make the desired spell cast on the target you are currently mousing over instead of your active target. Replace the
sample text
with the desired spell name:
#showtooltip
/cast Sample Text
Keep in mind too, you can assign focus with a mouseover as well like this:
#showtooltip
/focus
And even combine effects so this, for example, would Polymorph my focus, if no focus available, my mouseover, if neither are available, then my target:
#showtooltip
/cast
Assign Focus to mouseover
/focus
Focus Cast Macros
Fire has a number of spells you may want to target using the /Focus targetting option. You can replace the
sample text
in the macro below with spells such as
Counterspell
,
Polymorph
,
Spellsteal
, or
Remove Curse
depending on your preference:
#showtooltip
/cast Sample Text
Scorch Focus Target, if it exists and is harmful. Useful for focus casting
Scorch
during execute.
/cast Scorch
Cursor Macros
Casts
Flamestrike
at your cursor without an extra click
#showtooltip
/cast Flamestrike
Casts
Meteor
at your cursor without an extra click
#showtooltip
/cast Meteor
Combustion Macros
Uses the trinket in the top slot and casts
Combustion
. Keep in mind that this macro must be mashed, since
Combustion
can be cast while casting but your trinkets and racial cannot.
#showtooltip Combustion
/use 13
/cast Berserking(Racial)
/cast Combustion
This version of the macro will follow up with a
Pyroblast
. Only use if you have a
Hot Streak!
.
#showtooltip Combustion
/cast Berserking(Racial)
/use 13
/castsequence reset=30 Combustion, Pyroblast
Blink Macro
This macro will cancel your current cast when you hit
Blink
, but won't when you hit
Shimmer
:
/stopcasting
/cast Blink
Ice Block Macros
This macro will interrupt your cast and use
Ice Block
, then immediately break the
Ice Block
on second press, great for clearing debuffs:
#showtooltip
/cancelaura Ice Block
/stopcasting
/cast Ice Block
Fireball
macro to break
Ice Block
and not interrupt channeled spells. Since you should never be trying to cast
Fireball
during
Ice Block
this macro is great to use as your main
Fireball
button.
#showtooltip Fireball
/stopmacro
/cancelaura Ice Block
/cast Fireball
Slow Fall Macro
This macro will cast
Slow Fall
on your mouseover target, if no mouseover is available it will cast on you instead. Second press will cancel the
Slow Fall
effect, you can use this to rapidly fall through an area while reducing your fall damage to 0:
#showtooltip
/cancelaura Slow Fall
/cast
Alter Time Macro
This macro cancel's
Alter Time
, this is useful when you accidentally use it at low health, or when your healer tops you off and
Alter Time
would leave you lower health than you started with (
this weakaura
can help you knowing the exact health you will gain or lose by using
Alter Time
again):
#showtooltip Alter Time
/cancelaura Alter Time
Recommended Fire Mage Addons
Addons are powerful tools that can customize your gameplay experience, ranging from graphical overlays, replacement action bars, and unit/raid frames to performance enhancements such as rotation helping spell reminders, buff/debuff tracking, popup reminders, and boss warnings. Here are some of the highly recommended and commonly used Fire Mage addons, which are certainly not required to play, but can go a long way toward increasing the information available to you in combat or simply make for a more pleasant viewing experience.
Unlike Macros, managing Addons is done outside of the game, but our How to Install and Maintain Addons Guide will take you step-by-step through the process.
BossMods
: BossMods are addons that show you a timer of upcoming boss abilities and make noises if you stand in fire. You can choose between
Deadly Boss Mods
and
BigWigs
. I would recommend BigWigs.
Damage meter
:
Skada
or Details are the perfect addons to let you check the damage you and your raid member do. These addons are also useful to track interrupts, dispels or deaths. I would recommend Details.
Download UI
: If you don't want to make your own UI you can also download UI packages. The most common recommendation is to use ElvUI. ElvUI is a replacement for the standard Blizzard UI that is very easy to configure and a lot of high-end raiders are using. Check wago.io for profiles, or check out streamers on Twitch.
