WeakAuras
WeakAuras2 is an extremely flexible addon, with near limitless creative potential and control, capable of replicating or replacing nearly any part of the user interface. While designed as a simple way to create alerts to remind you of buffs, debuff, or encounter mechanics, it has become an integral part of World of Warcraft user interface customization, allowing players to replace their traditional action bars, create and share complex raid information, track other players spell casts, and much, much more. In this section, we've highlighted some of the best WeakAuras for Blood Death knight, although there are so many different options available that we
highly
recommend visiting
wago.io
to find one that best suits your needs.
Weak Aura Links
Remember that no Weakauras are ever mandatory to play with, but they can help condense a lot of information into a small, easy-to-track package. These are some sample sets that cover the Enhancement basics which are plug and play, or can be used for some inspiration when setting up your own set:
Name & Link
Example
Description
Croxke's Rebuilt weakaura set
A dynamic package that covers the basics of the blood Death Knight rotation. It is not always up to date, but unlike the others, it contains a sensible core and actively centralizes a lot of information that other packs tend to eschew
Luxthos’ Death Knight Package
A dynamic package that will cover all of the main things you need to track for Death Knight abilities and rotation in a lightweight group. Luxthos also creates similar packages for all other classes, so this is recommended for beginners and experienced players who play many different characters. Whilst it is not perfect, and has significant newbie footguns in it, it provides a starting core for players to extend it further.
In addition to this, a number of standalone weakauras may come in handy:
Self-Help Blood Death Knight Weakauras
The weakauras in this section were developed by Acherus regulars in order to help blood death knights fix rotational issues. Because blood has an indirect feedback loop, it is often hard to notice and track down mistakes as they happen. As such, a lot of players think they're playing "fine", but just get crushed eventually.
Bone Shield Help
This weakaura will emit a loud
honk
whenever the following situations happen:
You cast
Death Strike
while below 5
Bone Shield
charges (due to
Ossuary
, this is a 5 RP net loss)
You cast
Marrowrend
while above 7
Bone Shield
charges (thus wasting charges. Due to
Marrowrend
being a 10-30 RP lost per cast compared to
Heart Strike
, this is up to half a
Death Strike
wasted per honk!)
You overcap on Runic Power
These are some of the most common mistakes from people coming to Acherus for help. As a result, this is an ideal way to track down some of the most common mistakes.
DS Heal Prediction
This WeakAura
can be placed over your health bar on the unit frame of your choice; it will place a green spark at the point your next
Death Strike
will heal you.
Khalid's Gorefiend's Counter
Khalid's Gorefiend's WeakAura
gives you a simple numerical indicator of how many targets are in range of
Gorefiend's Grasp
if you were to cast it on yourself.
Macros
Macros are simple, in-game tools which allow you to sequence spells together, create custom names and icons, cast different abilities depending on whether the target is friendly or hostile, define targeting conditions, and much, much more. While the amount of options can be complex, making them is easy, so in this section we'll go over how to set them up yourself.
To open the in-game Macro interface, type "/macro" or "/m".
Choose between the General and Character-specific macro tabs. Then click the "New" button on the macro window.
Choose a Name and an Icon so you can easily recognize your macro, then click "Okay."
Select your new macro and use the text editor below to tell it what to do. If copying ours below, you can simply copy/paste the text in.
Click the "Save" button, and drag your macro icon onto your bars, which will allow it to be used just like any other spell from your spellbook.
To close the window, click "Exit", or just press Escape.
For more information on creating macros, including full lists of conditionals, modifiers, and other command customizations you can use, check out our full Macros guide.
These can be created in the Macros window by simply copy and pasting the coded code into the creator. These will perform specific actions above the regular button presses that can alleviate some targeting issues or ability problems by automating part of the ability:
Raise Dead / Sacrificial Pact
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=61 Raise Dead, Sacrificial Pact
This combines
Raise Dead
and
Sacrificial Pact
into a single button, the first happening on the first press, the second happening up to 61 seconds later. The reason is that you have up to 60 seconds to sacrifice your ghoul (for DPS), and should do so as late as possible.
It is recommend to pair this with a weakaura to track the ghoul's remaining uptime, to eke as much out of your buddy as possible before sending him off with a bang.
Focus Mind Freeze
#showtooltip Mind Freeze
/cast
This will attempt to interrupt your focus target if they're hostile. If you don't have a focus target (or if your focus is, for example, a friendly player), it will instead interrupt your current target. This is
invaluable
when assigning fixed kick targets in Mythic+, either by automarking or pre-defined assignments.
Focus Gorefiend's
#showtooltip Gorefiend's Grasp
/cast Gorefiend's Grasp
This will always center your
Gorefiend's Grasp
on your focus target. This can be useful if grouping adds to a designated player, for example.
#showtooltip Gorefiend's Grasp
/cast Gorefiend's Grasp
This will center your
Gorefiend's Grasp
on the player, NPC, or unit frame you currently have your cursor over, if they are eligible. If you are not moused over an eligible target, it will center on yourself.
Cursor Death and Decay
#showtooltip Death and Decay
/cast Death and Decay; Death and Decay
This will let you bypass the ground targeting reticle and cast
Death and Decay
at your cursor by holding down the Control key while casting, and directly under your feet otherwise.
Re-Control Control Undead
/target pet
/run PetDismiss()
/use Control Undead
/petassist
In some dungeons, you are able to
Control Undead
some undead mobs and use them to contribute a large amount of group DPS. However, this control effect only lasts 5 minutes so you will need to dismiss and re-cast
Control Undead
the pet at safe moments. This macro will allow you to do this without having to target the pet or even care about what you are doing, as long as you press it twice in quick succession.
Mouseover Raise Ally
#showtooltip Raise Ally
/cast
This will cast your
Raise Ally
on the player you have your cursor over. It works on both the actual corpse as well as unit frames. If you aren't currently over an eligible target, it will instead cast it on your target.
Addons
Addons are powerful tools that can be used to both customize your gameplay experience, ranging from graphical overlays, replacement action bars, and unit/raid frames, to performance enhancements such as rotation helping spell reminders, buff/debuff tracking, popup reminders, and boss warnings. Here are some of the highly recommended and commonly used Blood Death knight addons, which are certainly not required to play, but can go a long way toward increasing the information available to you in combat or simply make for a more pleasant viewing experience.
Unlike Macros, managing Addons is done outside of the game, but our How to Install and Maintain Addons Guide will take you step-by-step through the process.
Hekili
For players who are looking for a rotation helper,
Hekili
can provide a powerful tool using imported SimulationCraft profiles to generate a guideline for your next button presses in the priority sequence. This is useful for new and experienced players alike to give some assistance grasping the rotation and is well maintained.
BossMods
: BossMods are addons that show you a timer of upcoming boss abilities and make noises if you stand in fire. You can choose between
Deadly Boss Mods
and
BigWigs
. I would recommend BigWigs.
Damage meter
:
Skada
or Details are the perfect addons to let you check the damage you and your raid member do. These addons are also useful to track interrupts, dispels or deaths.
Download UI
: If you don't want to make your own UI you can also download UI packages. The most common recommendation is to use ElvUI. ElvUI is a replacement for the standard Blizzard UI that is very easy to configure and a lot of high-end raiders are using. Check wago.io for profiles, or check out streamers on Twitch.
