This section of the Arcane Mage guide provides tactics and advice on how to approach the artifact appearance challenge
The God-Queen's Fury
added in patch 7.2. This guide is written by Malon who raids with <Omen> on Emerald Dream EU; his lifelong ambition is to have the Warlock class renamed to 'Fuzzy Cuddlebears'. Find him on

This guide is about the Legion version of the Mage Tower Challenge, that isn't accessible anymore.

Arcane Mage Challenge Appearance
Eternal Magus is an appearance for
Aluneth
, for which you need to complete a difficult solo scenario. You can only attempt this while the Mage Tower building is active in the Broken Shore area.
Arcane - Eternal Magus
Gear
This late in legion I would recommend an item level of at least 915 before trying this challenge - You can do this scenario at far lower item levels (as low as 890) but you may want to just get more gear to overpower the scenario. Prioritise burst damage stats like crit and haste if you are having trouble breaking through Runeseer Faljar’s shield; otherwise, mastery is fine. On trinkets, Fury of the Burning Sky is very viable, although by no means required.
Any set bonus is useful, but none are necessary to complete this scenario.
Buffs
The Hungry Magister
Flask of the Whispered Pact
Defiled Augment Rune
Talents
These are the talents that I have been using in the scenario. The only essential one is
Chrono Shift
, for kiting
Sigryn
and
Jarl Velbrand
- others can be swapped if you get better results (although you should never take
Rune of Power
here). For example,
Shimmer
could be taken over
Mana Shield
if you have
Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus
or
Belo'vir's Final Stand
.
Legendaries
I rate Prydaz, Xavaric’s Magnum Opus and Belo’vir’s Final Stand and very highly in this scenario. However, some of the top-performing legendaries are Gravity Spiral and the Cord of Infinity.
Gravity Spiral
combos well with the Mana Shield talent, feeding mana when you need it.
Cord of Infinity
is excellent for bursting down Runeseer Faljar when he shields himself.
The shield from Belo'vir or Prydaz will absorb most of an
Ancestral Knowledge
explosion.
The encounter
This is a single-phase fight, with three enemies who share health (
Fel Skein
). The fight ends when
Jarl Velbrand
and
Runeseer Faljar
are defeated.
Sigryn is the main boss, but also the least dangerous. For much of the fight she will be Polymorphed. Her main abilities are:
Throw Spear
- creates a damaging zone on the ground;
Dark Wings
- summons a wall of Valkyr (find the gap, much like
Creeping Doom
in Vault of the Wardens), which rapidly fly across the battlefield; and
Blood of the Father
- countered with Polymorph (in this encounter, Poly has a 20 second cooldown but does not heal the target:
Arcane Biology
). However, be aware that Sigryn is affected by diminishing returns; you can’t simply sheep her for the entire encounter.
Additionally, Sigryn will sometimes knock you back with
Advance
.
Jarl Velbrand has the lowest health of all enemies, and will die first. He uses
Hurl Axe
;
Bladestorm
; and
Berserker's Rage
. All of these can be countered by side-stepping or kiting (use
Chrono Shift
or
Slow
).
Runeseer Faljar is the most annoying mob. He spam-casts
Shadowbolt
, and will periodically protect himself with a 6 million health shield and begin a 20-second cast (
Ancestral Knowledge
). You must use a cooldown to get through the shield and save
Counterspell
to interrupt his cast.
Faljar also casts
Runic Detonation
, which places three runes on the ground: one large, one medium and one small. Run through these (prioritising the small one) to prevent them from blowing up.
The fight is all about attrition; aside from destroying Faljar’s shield, it is not a DPS race. To emphasise this, Odyn’s valkyr will occasionally drop a golden orb on the ground; pick this up to heal for a sizeable amount.
At the start of the fight, you can blow your cooldowns and spam
Arcane Explosion
until
Arcane Power
fades; because the bosses share health, this will deal a significant chunk of damage. After this, Polymorph Sigryn and focus on damaging the Jarl and Runeseer.
Slow
,
Chrono Shift
, and
Displacement
are your main kiting tools.
Tips + tricks
Only use
Evocation
when you know it is safe to do so; i.e. Sigryn is Polymorphed, the Jarl is slowed or frozen and there are no mechanics coming up that will force you to move (Bladestorm, Dark Wings, etc).
If you are between runes when Runic Detonation is cast,
Blink
to the smallest and Displacement back.
If Counterspell is on cooldown or you cannot burst Faljar’s shield before he finishes his cast of Ancestral Knowledge,
Ice Block
. If you still can’t kill it, absorb the damage with
Greater Invisibility
.
Faljar will chain-cast Ancestral Knowledge as a soft enrage towards the end of the fight; save cooldowns like
Mark of Aluneth
,
Arcane Power
,
Presence of Mind
,
Time Warp
and even procs of
Arcane Missiles
to destroy his shield.
