Site Update: Reputation System
We joked about it on April Fools', but reputation has come to Wowhead. Koper has worked hard to provide our users with a way to make the database better without much additional effort on the users part.
The new system works a lot like a World of Warcraft reputation grind--without the tabards! As you gain more reputation by performing desirable actions--mainly getting your comments upvoted and visiting the website--you will gain new
privileges
. These privileges let you help out Wowhead staff and users alike by giving you the ability to have your upvotes count for more and even
vote to delete
out of date comments. Where possible, we've made sure that reputation has been awarded retroactively.
The main inspiration behind this was purging our databases of inaccurate information from expansions past. We can't catch it all, but doing a blind purge may delete funny comments or aspects of Wowhead's "history." Still, that doesn't mean we want a comment detailing how the Molten Core version of Ragnaros has good drops and how T2 leggings are best-in-slot to remain #1 on the comment list forever. Sometimes you gotta move on, and in this case we didn't think it was too soon.

Heroic Ragnaros Receives a Major Nerf
With only seven US guilds and thirty-seven guilds killing Ragnaros on heroic mode in 25-man, it was inevitable that Ragnaros would get a nerf. The fight was hard and many guilds three healed it for their kill, mine included.
Tonight, the nerfbat finally landed. Mid-attempt for many, Ragnaros' health was reduced--it's a fight based on health percentages for phase transitions, so this will reduce the second phase probably by an entire seed phase, greatly reducing the encounter's difficulty. Additionally, phase four--the heroic mode phase--allows Ragnaros to heal up for 50% of his health. With his overall health changed this much, it means he'll heal up for a lot less.
On heroic mode, Ragnaros now has 74.2 million on 10-man; on 25-man, it's now 246.9 million from its previous 290 million.

Harvest Festival Begins (Sept. 6th - 13th)
The
Fête des moissons
is a small celebration to honor the fallen heroes of the Horde and Alliance. This year it runs from September 6th through the 13th, transforming the outside of Orgrimmar and Ironforge into feasts. While overall the holiday has few rewards and is an extremely minor world event, any change of scenery is a good thing--especially one that leads right up to Brewfest!
Festival Foods
Festive tables full with food can be found outside of Orgrimmar and Ironforge, from which players can have their fill of food and drink as they celebrate the memory of their faction's fallen champions. You can hold up to 20 of each of these foods, and they do not expire, so they make great meals for alts!

Honoring a Hero
There is only one short quest chain available during the Harvest Festival, with both Horde and Alliance versions, and you pick it right up where the festival is taking place. For this quest, you are sent to show respect to one of your faction's most honored heroes--Grom Hellscream for members of the Horde and Uther Lightbringer for members of the Alliance. In with the Newb, Out with the Old: The Future of World of Warcraft
It was an interesting week for outside sources, with
an interview featuring Tom Chilton on IGN
and
a very in-depth examination of WoW's subscriber woes at Gamasutra
.
The catch? Both of them deal with the future of Azeroth in different ways. Gamasutra analyzed the shortcomings of Cataclysm, interviewing players and even Blizzard employees to figure out what's in store. IGN took a more basic approach, going directly to the source with both Tom Chilton and WoW's art director explaining everything in their own words without leaving room for speculation.

He immediately started dropping juicy tidbits about the Deathwing encounter, saying: "The fight takes place in multiple different environments, you'll actually potentially get loot at different points in the encounter so it's broken up into larger scale overall. Interview with NFL Player Chris "Warcraft" Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings
Everyone was shocked to learn Mila Kunis dabbled in Azeroth in her downtime a couple years back. After all, how could a celebrity manage World of Warcraft and being famous?
We seem to forget that celebrities are just like everyone else--and that means a lot of "famous" people play WoW. From sports professionals to famous actors, WoW's digital world is home to a lot of different characters both in-game and out. It's part of the allure.
So that's where this feature comes in. We're looking behind the curtains of characters and seeing who actually plays them, hopefully with some interesting results. For our first interview, I tracked down Chris Kluwe right before the NFL season starts and asked him about his gaming habits, particularly the one that earned him his very own WoW TCG card after his character.
Watch out though, if you're alliance--he seems a little bit of a troll. A Troll rogue, that is!
Q: Can you give a little background on yourself, who you are and what you do?
I am

Patch 4.3 Preview: Worgen Racial Mounts
Mount-collectors rejoice: there's new Worgen racial mounts in 4.3!
For months, players have complained how it was unfair that Alliance mount-collectors had nothing to collect from Worgen quartermasters--especially next to the snazzy Horde
Clé de triklomoteur turbo gobelin
. Well, it seems Blizzard has listened to player feedback. The new mounts resemble the old unarmored mounts from vanilla--a nice touch next to the current heavily-armored mounts seen everywhere.
We're not going to make it very far without transportation, are we? If we just hightail it out of here, the forsaken will catch up to us in no time at all.
Rounding up some horses from the stable grounds southeast of here would normally be a breeze, but there's one snag. That last quake must've spooked Koroth, the ettin, down from the mountains. If we don't get our horses soon, I fear that he will.
In patch 4.3, we’ll be introducing worgen racial mounts to the stables of Azeroth. These sleek horses have been constant companions for the denizens of Gilneas since time immemorial, and your worgen characters will now be able to claim their ancestral mounts.

New Ghostcrawler Blog: Bloody Mitigation
A few weeks ago, we had
a small debate
about what the best tank was on Wowhead's forums. It got brought up time and time again that death knights had some issues, despite being an amazing class for PvP and PvE DPS. Many players, even those like myself who don't tank, just felt that they were an extremely situational tank that was worse on more fights than they were better--such as Heroic Ragnaros.
Ghostcrawler seems to be on a similar wavelength, choosing this blog to explain the DK model more in-depth and tanking as a whole as well as his plans for the class and role in 4.3.
The end result is that 4.3 will have some major changes for DKs as well as tanks in general. Blizzard isn't done refining how tanking happens, particularly cooldown management and mitigation itself.
What Active Mitigation Actually Means, and the Future of the Blood Death Knight
We recently buffed tank threat significantly and suggested that we would fill in any potential lost gameplay with new gameplay. What I meant by that was that if tanks don’t need to hit their buttons to generate threat, they may realize th

News Round Up: Diablo III Community Site, Model Updates, and More
There were some blue posts last week and today that mostly dealt with the onslaught of questions about transmogrification, the Darkmoon Faire, and model updates. Yes, model updates--with everything else being revamped, including the long sought after armor customization, a lot of people have been pretty curious about the prospect of new models coming someday.
Highlights from today's news round up:
Replica items may mean that items from DMF may just be art skins, rather than the original gear--so it may be impossible to tell replicas from the real thing.
Death Knights will get their stater gear back, probably set up in Archerus, so non-DKs can't steal their unique armor!

Patch 4.3: Darkmoon Faire
The Darkmoon Faire makes its return in 4.3 and one thing is for sure: it's finally getting the awesome revamp it deserved.
Shrouded in mist, sequestered away on its own island, the Faire returns with aplomb with mounts, vanity pets, and everything else you'd expect from a redone faction. From Tonk Battle Royale to Whack-a-Gnoll, it's got a few games up its sleeves like any good carnival should have as well. Some of the bigger changes also include:
Players will be able to work behind the scenes to earn skill points, up to five per week, to their professions of choice through quests.
Inspired by the Gurubashi arena, there will be deathmatches for prizes every three hours.
A new item, Darkmoon Artifacts will drop from battlegrounds, dungeons, and so on and will allow players to turn them in for rewards.
New heirlooms will be added through the Faire.
Most importantly, the Darkmoon Faire will bring back long-lost armor sets for transmogrification!
Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Step right up and prepare to be amazed!

News Round Up: Transmogrification Clarifications, Void Storage Updates, and More
We have a lot of random posts for transmogrification lurking about from this week and last.
It's probably easiest to simply sum them up:
Heirlooms will be eligible targets for Transmogrification--you won't have to look bad while leveling up!
Mainhand can only be applied to mainhand and offhand only to offhand.
The jury is still out on "silly" items. They are debating whether or not you can use fun offhands like frying pans, fish, and so on.
While not planned for day one, greys and whites might eventually be an option. The wording used by the Community Manager implies it's not set in stone either way.
There was also a clarification about void storage (no, those prices are not set in stone) and a good PvP post session with Zarhym covering everything from twinks to deleting warlocks from the game forever. Oh, don't worry--he was kidding.
On Transmogrification
That's still under discussion at the moment. Right now, Legendary weapons and Heirlooms probably won't be eligible, while some Bind on Account items probably will be eligible. It's not set in stone yet though.

Patch 4.3: Blizzard Explains Void Storage
How many of us are World of Warcraft hoarders? How many of us have banks that have items that probably should have been thrown out but weren't?
My guess? A lot of us. As luck would have it, however, Blizzard's here to stage an intervention with Ethereals through its new system of void storage! Of course, as they explain in the post below, there's always a catch--items put in here will lose gems, enchants, and so on--but it's perfect for those old school items that you want to transmogrify armor into. Read on to see exactly what void storage will be like and how it will help you out.
The best part? It even comes with a nifty search feature!
For quite some time now, players have been asking for a location in which to store important keepsakes including treasured armor sets, unique quest rewards, and gifts from friends, as well as other valuable items they’ve collected on their journeys throughout Azeroth.
This is a feature we’ve wanted to add to the game for a while, so we’re excited to announce that, thanks to the ingenuity and entrepreneurship of the Ethereals, a new long-term storage option will soon be available to completionists and collectors

News Round Up: Transmogrification Will Require You to Own Items, Blizzard CMs Have Lives, and More
There were a lot of blue posts yesterday and I think it's only fair that we post them up. They answer a lot of questions in general about these new features that were announced such as transmogrification.
These posts confirm that you will need to own the items already in order to transmogrify into them--one of the most discussed aspects of the new system. This will be a letdown for some. It makes perfect sense as it will encourage players to revisit dungeons and raids that many have never seen, but for those of us who raided when they were current, it is a letdown if we have deleted our sets. I know I deleted all my sets come Cataclysm simply because I had zero bank space for anything thanks to all the WotLK sets in there. I will now have to recollect them all it appears!

Blizzard at Gamescom: 4.3 Announced, Deathwing, Armor Customization, Diablo 3 News, and More

Of course, it's not just dungeons to be excited for. Those ethereals we mentioned a week and a half ago? They're for what most of us only dreamed in our biggest dreams and Blizzard previously said was impossible: armor customization.
