This little guy sometimes appears and attacks after mining an ore deposit, drops some more ore and the very hungry Mange-minerai pet.

These are a reference to the Gorons, a race of mountain people in The Legend of Zelda series who loved to munch on rocks. The most delicious rocks came from the dangerous Dodongo's Cavern. :)

WildStar implemented a unique and interesting way to obtain more ore while gathering too. There way, was to create a Rock worm had a chance to appear when gathering that once slain you may enter through its mouth and you have 2mins to mine as many veins as possible inside the worm before it's body collapses.

Very cool for Blizzard to add some sort of thing like that. Makes gathering less boring.

This mob will spawn in the Garrison Mine also. This makes the pet obtainable to all players, even those who do not have the mining profession on a character.

Had one spawn in the mine and get immediately destroyed by a guard. Kind of upsetting since I rarely get one to spawn. My limited chances at the pet ruined by a guard. :( Ugh I want Blizz to let me kick those guards out, I'm the only protector my mine needs! :)

Hunters, make sure that your pet is on neutral before you start mining. Had a couple times that my pet jumped one of these and ate it before I could get kill credit.

The spawn rate of these seems to be abysmally low. On top of that the drop rate of the egg is also stupid low.

I'm having a bit of disagreement with a friend about the drop rate shown here. He says the number of kills shown counts each ore that drops as a kill. I disagree. I believe the number of kills is just the number of goren killed.

Mined with my level 78 in Nagrand (parked here for bmah purposes on a dead server) and a Goren Protector spawned. My first thought : " I am dead". Then i see tiny hit on my fleeing char, and noticed that the mob was 78. Killed, dropped 11 True Iron ore.

So my assumption is that the spawned Goren is always the same level than the miner.

Now, time to try with a level 1 :)

These scale down in level for now. My level 20 on an inactive account (upgraded to WoD, of course) encounters these and gets the full ore drops rather than the typical nuggets from the nodes (which do not require a minimum level or skill).

These NPCs can and will, in fact, spawn from nodes in the water of the Excavation de Chutelune / Mine de Mur-de-Givre Niveau 3. However, you must get in the water with them or they will Evade your attacks.

The Goren can drop blackrock ore when spawned from a true iron deposit. Annoyed me since i need more true iron.

I wish these had a higher chance of spawning. In 8 months I've only had about 4 or 5 appear.

Goren's level-scaling can take them above level 100. If you're a Legion-level individual and mining, your goren will pop out at the same level that you are even at above 100.

Why doesn't the Drops tab of the page for this item include the Goren Egg, since the page for that item actually lists this in its Dropped By tab?

Has anyone had one of these guys spawn from their mine lately? I use to get maybe 5-8 each week, but I haven't had one spawn for almost 2 months now.
I am wondering if there is an issue with their spawn rate right now.

the droprate for the pet is so low that it's not even shown under wowhead's drops section for this NPC...
