Patch 1.11:
Shadow of the Necropolis
opened on June 20th, 2006. It is the end of Classic. Ragnaros has been defeated. Onyxia has been foiled. The ogres of Dire Maul have been routed. The Gates of Ahn'Qiraj hang open and abandoned. What more could a hero want? A floating necropolis, of course! In this patch players got to take on Kel'Thuzad (not for the last time) and his minions in his floating headquarters above the Plaguelands. Players, and hope, flooded to Light's Hope Chapel to take on the Scourge.
Floating above the Plaguelands, the necropolis known as Naxxramas serves as the seat of one of the Lich King's most powerful officers, the dreaded lich Kel'Thuzad. Horrors of the past and new terrors yet to be unleashed are gathering inside the necropolis as the Lich King's servants prepare their assault. The Scourge marches again...
New Raid: Naxxramas
Naxxramas
was a 40-person raid instance. It was the last raid added to the original game before the first expansion. The seat of Kel'Thuzad, Naxxramas was located in the Eastern Plaguelands floating above Stratholme.
Naxxramas had four different wings, the Arachnid Quarter, the Plague Quarter, the Military Quarter, and the Construct Quarter. When these were cleared, access was granted to a fifth wing, Frostwyrm Lair. Progression through the first four wings was non-linear so raid groups could decide which order to clear them in.
Bosses had a chance to drop
Fragment d'Atiesh
, and Kel'Thuzad dropped
Tête d'Atiesh
, necessary items in the questline to reassemble the legendary staff,
Atiesh, grand bâton du Gardien
.
The fifteen boss encounters in this raid included:
The Arachnid Quarter
Anub'Rekhan
Grande veuve Faerlina
Maexxna

New Quest Hub: Light's Hope Chapel
The little area that was Light's Hope Chapel was revamped into a fully functional quest hub with a mailbox, inn, vendors, and a guard system. Dozens of new quests were added including some for head and leg resistance enchantments.
