How Big Are the Mythic+ Dungeon Nerfs? - Dratnos and Tettles Discuss

This week's GG WoW video follows up on
last week's
as we've recently received a large set of Mythic Plus dungeon nerfs (and a few bugfixes that can sometimes be buffs).
If you want to read more about the nerfs, most can be found in these three posts:
January 3rd
Court of Stars
January 6th
These changes almost exclusively target bosses rather than trash and serve to bring down their difficulty, generally through reducing their group-wide damage. This leads Dratnos and Tettles to discuss the nature of healing checks this season, which had previously been a large step up in difficulty from the Shadowlands average but is now being brought back down through these balance changes. Opinions differ in the community about whether this is a good or bad thing, and Dratnos points out that it's very hard for the same boss fight to be interesting to a healer playing a geared character in a good group with DPS players using defensives well while not having the same fight be absolutely brutal to healers in less coordinated groups, on less geared characters, and/or playing specs that have a harder time healing M+ damage patterns. It's a very hard problem to solve and in general Dratnos and Tettles understand wanting to make sure that players pushing keys don't hit brick walls on boss encounters.
The other challenge comes from Dungeon Parity, which was a huge topic of last week's video. Advisor Melandrus is a good example of this - the boss itself was one of the harder bosses and likely deserved to be on the nerf list for that reason, but it was in an otherwise easy dungeon and nerfing it further exacerbates the relative imbalance between Court and Shadowmoon on the one hand and dungeons like Ruby Life Pools on the other. Again this is a hard problem for which there are no easy answers - perhaps all non-Court and Shadowmoon dungeons should be nerfed further to bring parity, but this might result in interesting and fun mechanics becoming trivial. Perhaps Court and Shadowmoon should be buffed in some way, but buffing dungeons mid-season is dicey and might lead to players having really unsatisfying moments against the buffed content. Perhaps the best option is to just do nothing and let the imbalance sit, but this will mean that which key you get will continue to be a huge factor in whether you're successful in your dungeon runs, which is nasty at all levels but especially for players pushing key levels for Gear, Vault, or Score rewards.
