Art Blast: Spotlight on Blizzard Senior Technical Artist Ty Viveiros
28/04/2022 à 08:36
recently published an Art Blast focused on the visuals for
. The piece featured several Blizzard artists focusing on their particular specialty. We thought we'd take a look at the work that each artist does for World of Warcraft and their featured artwork.
Blizzard Senior Technical Artist Ty Viveiros was featured for their work as a Technical/Rigging Artist.
Technical/Rigging artists create the skeletons of the characters that we see and are in the game. These base assets in turn define how a character or item will move. Smooth skinning refers to the process that allows joints to look smooth while articulating.
Viveiros' pieces show a sample of the different types of movement that Sylvanas needs to be able to execute, as well as the spectacular Rogue Tier Set shoulders which articulate with movement.
Shadowlands Smooth Skinning and Physics
For Shadowlands: Eternity's End I was able to smooth skin two versions of Sylvanas and add physics to a few pieces of tier set gear from the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid.
Character Art: Cody Harder, Christopher Chang, Natacha Nielsen, Mackenzie Kade Patrick, Jay Nam.
Animation: Chris Hale, WoW Animation Team.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Rogue Shoulderpad Physics
Viveiros has also worked on rigging for many familiar characters, including Queen Azshara.
The rig for Queen Azshara is one of the most complex and robust that I have ever built. The build process involved many months of R&D, trial-and-error, creation of new systems, and the actual build. To date, this is one of my favorite rig builds.
Rig stats: 329 skinned joints, 570 animation controllers, 5 body tentacles, 9 head tentacles, 5 eyes, 4 arms, 1 crazy rigging artist.
Rigging and skinning: Ty Viveiros
Character Art: Kenny McBride
Animation: Kevin Rucker, David Edwards
Tentacle system development: Lisa Anderson
