The removal of the Keyring in patch 4.2 seems to have deleted these keys instead of placing them into player bags.

Perhaps Blizzard will allow the coffers to open without any key now.

On 27. Aug 2011 I asked a GM if there's a bug because I didn't find any (greater) scarab coffer key since patch 4.2

He answered that they know there's a bug but they don't know when the developers can fix it.

Das geschilderte Problem mit den fehlenden Schlüsseln für die Skarabäuskästen in AQ ist uns bekannt. Leider ist es zur Zeit nicht möglich, die Schlüssel zum öffnen zu bekommen.

Es wird von Seiten der Entwickler aber bereits an eienr Lösung gearbeitet die diese Behälter wieder zugänglich machen kann. Bis diese implementiert ist könnwn wir Dich hier leider nur um etwas Geduld bitten.

Für die hierdurch entstandenen Unannehmlichkeiten möchte ich mich entschuldigen.

According to 4.3 PTR, the keys will now drop from bosses, and will be zone bound to the instance.

Since the keys got removed, Blizzard eventually noticed they didn't remove the requirement on the coffers; Coffre de scarabées and Grand coffre de scarabées.

In order to fix this they now add back new keys that are to be used in the zone only and have a time limit, in any case you now will loot Clé de coffre de scarabées and Clé de coffre de scarabées supérieur from bosses, instead of Scarab Coffer Key and Greater Scarab Coffer Key (respectively) from trash mobs.

strange, says its not possible to get this item any more, just looted one from The Prophet Skeram in the start of the raid
