In order to capture a soul with Cage d’âme vide (crafted by Joaillerie), the elemental must die while casting Inhalateur d’âme Zappeur-Gazier (crafted by Ingénierie). The best method is to use dots, as well as stuns to prevent any abilities that may interrupt the cast. Once you receive the soul. do not open the item until the "Encaged" turns into "Docile", which will happen once the 15-minute timer expires. Docile souls may contain pets, but the majority of the time it will contain the elemental crafting reagent,

EDIT: You no longer need to use dots, as the item now applies a 30-second debuff to the mob.

If you're low on DoTs and having trouble getting the channel off and killing at the same time, Morchok counts as an earth elemental and will give Encaged Earthen Souls. He's summoned fairly regularly on my server, and always has a crowd to kill him.

Seis from the Primal Storm event will not work for this. I tried today but got a Âme givrée enfermée instead, despite him being an earth elemental.

If you're farming for awakened (and thus not waiting the 15 minutes for the docile version), to save you opening your bags constantly you can use this macro:
