Though the tooltip could give the impression that this is a useless flavor item like Explosion de cadavre, it's actually got a little bit of usefulness for meat farming. Exploding a corpse will cause a few hunks of meat to fly off, and form world objects on the ground. They can they be interacted with individually (not looted, so no area looting) to get 2-5 cooking meats each. I got three objects from the 2 star quality version, the only one I've tried yet. It looks to me through some guessing at linked spells in Wowhead that the 3 star version would create four meat objects, and the 1 star version makes only 2.

This appears to be all types of common Dragon Isles cooking meat, not just meat that is peculiar to the mob you killed. A Bruffalon, which typically only drop Bruffalon Flank and Maybe Meat, gave me some Burly Bear Haunch. A Highland Mammoth gave me Hornswog Hunks and Bruffalon Flank, and no Mighty Mammoth Ribs at all from the fragments. Along those lines, the corpse need not even necessarily be normally a meat-dropping animal. Exploding a dead gnoll gave me Bruffalon Flank, Basilisk Eggs, and Maybe Meat. I haven't tried all mob types so I don't know if there are any exclusions, but I'm guessing there's not and that you could get meat from exploding elementals too. (Someone report back.) (Edit: Not all. I forget what kind of elemental I tried it on, but it gave nada. Stick to meaty things?)

Unfortunately it's not got a lot of usefulness when focusing on meat farming, both because of its five minute cooldown and because, despite having a targeting reticle, it only explodes one corpse per use. Just a little bonus while you're out on your killing sprees.

If you're planning on using these on creatures and not just to get scraps here and there, It is probably best to use rank 2 or 3s.

I've used a ton of rank 2s and a little bit of rank 1s and 3s, so not a huge amount of testing. Rank 1s have given me 1-2 lootable mounds every time. Rank 2s 3-5 and Rank 3s 4-6.

If you're just using these for the scrap component only then obviously the cheapest is the best option.

Fwiw, this is with a fully maxed out Engineering spec tree.

These DO work in old world zones, too, and reward dragonflight mats.
