Looted this item from a mob in the Motherlode (the pack before second to last boss) with a skill of 150 + 3 rings in the Engineering helmet which gives a total of 225 skill.

The buff lasts for 2 minutes and it let's you get increased chance to salvage Servomoteur électrique à propulsion explosive from War Machines with this buff up. But mainly it let's you loot Appareil d’activation à distance du méca-nabab Mod. I from Nabab Razzbam if you kill the boss with the buff active (don't have to use the Elixir before you pull)

If you want to loot the remote from the boss make sure you are NOT loot saved already.

does the potion disappear in your bag when you leave the dungeon or can you collect a bunch over the weeks

That u can only carry 1 potion at a time. is very annoying. and makes it very hard to do this with random groups.

It seems these do not drop if you already have the Appareil d’activation à distance du méca-nabab Mod. I in your inventory. Every run before the Appareil d’activation à distance du méca-nabab Mod. I dropped for me, I had 1 or 2 potion drops. After I had the Appareil d’activation à distance du méca-nabab Mod. I haven't seen a single potion in the last 5 runs.

That suggests to me that the pots aren't needed for anything other than the Appareil d’activation à distance du méca-nabab Mod. I.

EDIT: I ran 3 more times tonight and had another one drop - my assumption was bad.

I use one potion when killing (not looting) the 4 azerite extractors and another again on the 3 mechs before the last boss.

From my personal statistics vs. other's from both friendslist and trade chat it seems that on average the output of servomotors is higher when using this potion. Although using this potion does NOT guarantee a drop.

It may be just me but with the high droprate if these pots you can easily use atleast 2/dungeon - mail one from alt then loot another mid-dungeon without much effort.

I looted load of potions, so I could try to use them on several mobs.
Imho the potion does not affect the drop of Blast-Fired Electric Servomotor, when I used the pot I had 0 pieces, so far I had my 6 pieces on random Mechas without potion.
Good luck farming...

Just a heads up - once you have used this potion on the last boss fight if you then use any other potion such as an intellect dps potion it will overwrite the engi potion therefore dropping your +25 engi skill gained and making it so you are not eligible to loot the Mk1 remote from the boss. This apparently is intended but also isn't shown on the tool-tip for the engi potion, neither do you get a warning that a more powerful potion is active. If you do this then you will miss out on looting the item until weekly reset.

I keep hearing that you need Eng goggles that have 3rd ring to make/or get, potion.
Clarity PLEASE. What version of goggles are we talking about. There are about a dozen, or do any of them work.
What do you mean 3rd ring? 3 stars? 3rd Azerite ring? Or do you mean you can loot potions if you have this "3rd ring"?

I want to add in a small thing as of late 2020:
I farmed all the mats, except the remote, on normal at 165 skill level + helm with traits by killing last boss. At 165 both the elixirs from the masterminds and the remote refused to drop. I started to ponder if this was something intended, as you can these days get to 175 without elixir (+helm), so I leveled up to 175 + helm and still got 0 elixirs, but the remote dropped first run for me. There is a chance that this was just really weird RNG and that I was unlucky the first 15 runs at 165, but I think it might be that you need to get to 175 these days to get remote to drop.
