Guessing having this as the centerpiece of a bit of jewelry would be rather like a show of strength.

For those unaware, there was a process for Ossification of various insect and snake venom glands in multiple cultures. This was usually set into a ring, filled with a poison, and then capped off.
It was used in various ways depending on the culture:
1- Spies would use this to hide their suicide poison as torture methods back then were....pretty gruesome.
2- Assassins could slink in as help and crush the ossified gland dropping the poison into food/wine, the crushed ossified bits easily breaking off the ring leaving no trace of the original inlay.
3- In field warfare or brawls, powder or blinding poison could be placed in the ring and one solid strike to the face could easily give you the advantage on your opponent.
