Upgrading Converted Set Pieces

Mythic+ Dungeon drops and Rated PvP gear are able to be upgraded with either Vaillance (for Mythic+ gear) or Honneur (for PvP gear). When these pieces are converted to tier via the Creation Catalyst, these pieces will retain their upgrade levels, and can continue to be upgraded by using their respective currencies.

Tier Item Conversion Costs

Below, we have prices for converting all pieces into tier.

We have a preliminary post outlining all currently known sources of Flux cosmique. You should be able to obtain close to 500 Cosmic Flux per day by doing normal activities in Zereth Mortis, with more Flux if you do more things like chase treasures and rares.

Inspiration Catalyst and Transmog

The Inspiration Catalyst can also be used to obtain tier transmog pieces! Any end result items from the Inspiration Catalyst will result in an item that has the appearance of your 9.2 tier.

What appearance the item will take (LFR, Normal, Heroic or Mythic appearances) will depend on what item level the piece converted on the Inspiration Catalyst is:

Items of 249 item level or lower will take the LFR appearance
Items between 252 and 262 will take the Normal appearance
Items between 265 and 275 will take the Heroic appearance
Items at 278 or above will take the Mythic appearance

PvP items will take their PvE items levels into consideration for their appearances. Converted items that can be further upgraded will change their appearance once upgraded past the threshold. IE: If you convert a ilvl 262 piece from Mythic+, it will initially have the Normal set appearance, but upgrading it once to ilvl 265 will change that piece's appearance into the Heroic set appearance.

Looking at the specific words Blizzard used to describe the release cadence, "the 6th week after the Mythic Raid becomes available in Dragonflight Season 1," the date has to be January 24, 2023.

If they had said "the 1st week after the Mythic Raid becomes available in Dragonflight Season 1," it would have been December 20, right?

Do we have any idea how the skin will be chosen this time around ? Because in Shadowlands it felt extremely random I had very high ilvl pieces turning into LFR skins and very low pieces turned into heroic skins for no reason whatsoever.

I desperately want the LFR skin for my main Monk and the catalyst is basically the only way for me to obtain it with how the need/greed system works in LFR.

Would be great to know what ilvls will represent LFR appearance, normal appearance, heroic appearance and mythic appearance. Is it equal to the ilvl of the token pieces from the raid? e.g. heroic raid chest is 408, so would you need to put a 408 or higher chest into the catalyst to get the heroic appearance?

The quest for the first charge starts from Watcher Koranos at the Seat of the Aspects in Valdrakken.

Watcher Koranos appears to leave the area if you are on L’héritage du bastion de Tyr and you will not be able to pick up Relancer la machine (the quest to unlock the revival catalyst) abandoning Legacy of Tyrhold allows you to pick it up. I am assuming thiis means you will also not be able to pick up the weekly if you are on this quest as well, but I cannot yet confirm this.

The catalyst is at Thalaszdrus 59.73, 53.74. You need to do a short quest chain to unlock it, but it seems this can't be started from the catalyst itself -- you have to do the breadcrumb from Valdrakken.

Which I think comes from the top of the Valdrakken main building where the dragons are.

My hubby used it for the first time today, looking forward to a tier piece. Didn't read fine print, and upgraded boots, without realizing not tier. NOW...He has lost the token! -_-. There should be a way to get it back or warn the user, This Piece not part of tier-set. Are you sure you just want to change the appearance. But then again, we aren't even sure that the boots were set piece or not. Is it possible that an actual set piece would be shown if already a set piece as an option . If you know what I mean.

The raid finder tier shoulders are ilvl 385, I really wanted the LFR transmog so I thought I'd use a pair of 385 shoulders I had.
They turned into the normal difficulty look, so be sure to use lower than 385 gear, if you want the LFR look (even if the actual tier piece has that ilvl).

if you use it on a 415 item from Mythic+ and you want the 3 appearances (Normal, Heroic and Mythic), it won't give you the 3, it will just give you the Mythic Appearance... guess i'll have to use another one on the same lower ilvl item and then upgrade it just for appearance

Is there a catch-up mechanic if you miss a weekly quest, or are you screwed? I very much preferred the older method where I didn't have to have a random quest in my log when I'm already doing the same content.

They've now moved Antuka. She gives the quest beside the Great Vault in the Valdrakken bank. You still have to travel to Tyrhold to hand in your quest and convert your item though.

I've also noticed that for certain activities, you need to be grouped up in order to get credit towards the quest. Things like Grand Hunt, WQ's, you need to be in a party; you can't just walk up, hit the boss, and claim credit. Not sure if that's a bug, or if it's working as intended.

Anyone else have a stupid bug where you cannot use it? I had 3 charges, used one and now I can't do any more. The pieces are definitely eligible and I KNOW I have 2 charges (i was saving them for pvp gear). Even the little is white. I sent in a bug report last week.

So out of curriosity the original blue post says the "The total number of charges that can be stored for an individual character is currently capped at 6." they mention STORED not aquired or similar. but in this post it says that it's limited to only 6 per toon. to me it seems kind of faulty design that alot of the Transmog for the sets cant get obtained unless you use the catalyst and even then it's 4 charges at best. also having to save charges early if you plan on doin 20's so you still have charges for your 421 gear from the vault seems kind of dumb. at the date of writing we just got the 5th charge so there is still 2 weeks till we know for sure if we get more than 6 charges. not even to mention that again if we dont get more charges it would mean in future season you would have to level 3-4 characters of the same class to get enough charges to unlock all the pieces for each set. i hope and wish that the wording in this articele is wrong and the wording on the catalyst ingame is just abit missleading. otherwise it seems like a massiv oversight that should be fixed as fast as possible.

Does anyone have a guide for how to get all the colorways for the Teir sets and The Forbidden Reach token sets? For example, the LFR Tier gear is Seafoam Green, and if you use a Revival Catalyst to upgrade a FR token piece that is 385, it will give you a piece of Tier Gear in Golden Yellow (Normal Raid). If you use a catalyst on a piece of 398 FR token gear, it gives you a tier piece in Ice Blue (Heroic Raid). If you buy a FR token piece from the vendor with Elemental overflow, the color is Blue. When you upgrade it to level 2, it's Lime Green. Then if you upgrade it with a catalyst, it turns into a piece of Seafoam Green LFR gear. I'm looking for a guide that shows all of this, so I can collect all the colors. Suggestions?

The appearance of converted items will depend on their item level. Here are the item level breakpoints for transmog collectors:

Item level 405-411 items will have Raid Finder appearance.
Item level 415-424 items will have Normal difficulty appearance.
Item level 428-437 items will have Heroic difficulty appearance.
Item level 441+ items will have Mythic difficulty appearance.
Upgraded Bloody Tokens PvP gear (item level 411) converts to Normal difficulty appearance.

"Suffused" named items - items from Fyrrak Assault, must be at least 402 item level (epic quality, Veteran track)
PvP items purchased with Jetons sanglants and upgraded with Trophée de combat craquelé

NEW! Time Rift gear - rewarded from completion or purchased from vendor with Capsule temporelle dilatée

If you want to optimize your catalyst uses for transmogrification:

For LFR/Normal - get as much Suffused/Time Rift/Mythic+/LFR gear on Veteran track with item level up to 411, convert it, then upgrade it to 415. This will unlock both LFR and Normal gear.
IMHO, the best way to do this is to complete Fyrakk Assault (Secured Shipment and Dragon boss) + Time Rift + Sarkareth LFR (chance for curio) weekly, then, once you miss only few items, spend Capsule temporelle dilatée to buy remaining items from vendor.
For Heroic/Mythic - get as much Heroic Aberrus/Aube de l’Infini/Mythic+ gear on Hero track up to 437 item level, convert it, then upgrade it to 441. This will unlock both Heroic and Mythic gear.

Warning: SELL TO VENDOR BEFORE UPGRADING! There is a bug, where if you upgrade an item which you can still trade, the original appearance will not be unlocked - only the one after upgrading/converting. Selling to vendor disables trading and guarantees both appearances.

Is there any gear out that will turn in to DF Season 1 LFR gear? Primalist gear that is 385 turns into Normal and 395 turns into Heroic appearances, respectively. You cannot convert the 359 Primalist gear in the catalyst.

Perhaps some older PVP gear, if you happened to keep it under 385?

If you convert a PvP item to a Tier item, the new item will still increase its item level in Arenas and Battlegrounds.

However, I'm not sure if this is really useful for PvP players since the secondary stats make up of Tier sets are often very bad for PvP

Upon the release of patch 10.2, I tried to upgrade an item from the dreamsurge events from level 415 to level 437 (full upgrade) and then convert it with the catalyst to obtain a missing heroic mode set appearance (red for DK). I obtained the Season 2 tier set appearance, but for normal mode (blue) and not heroic mode, as it was in patch 10.1 for that iLvl. I tried to convert a non-upgraded Dreamsurge item at level 415, but you still obtain the normal mode as before the patch.
Edit: I tried to purchase an item with the new Dreamsurge Cocoon currency (starting at lvl 428), fully upgraded it (450 ilvl), and then converted it with the catalyst. I obtained again the normal appearance with just the addition of the "Mythic+" caption. So, to date, no matter the item level, you will always catalyze any Dreamsurge item to the Season 2 set normal appearance.

The base 415 dreamsurge gear from the dreamsurge vendor can be used in the catalyst but will result in the Aberrus LFR appearance. Converting will result in a 415 Green item version of the tier gear and is upgradeable. These items will have the tier appearace, set bonuses, and can be upgraded. They WILL NOT upgrade to normal appearance even at blue 8/8 437. I have also tested buying the 428 ilvl gear using the dreamsurge cocoon. This item resulted in the LFR appearance as well even after upgrading to purple 5/8 441.

The Rêve renaissant will NOT be in your actual bag or the currency tab. When you click on the catalyst to upgrade, you will see it there.

Would love to see added to this guide a definitive listing of WHAT is able to be converted. I'm talking Forbidden Reach, Time Rift, Dreamsurge and similar gear. They all convert into different season tier sets.

For example, sifting through the comments, it seems LFR for season 1 Vault of the Incarnates cannot be obtained through converting.

Would love to see a definitive, up to date guide instead of having to sift through possibly out of date comments.

Wish we could stop this nonsense and get 1 charge every week already. Almost everyone is geared with tier set items by now. We want to work on our transmogs and this is extremely limiting. It is time to allow "fun" in the game.

It looks like a good deal of the non-tier slots for the Amirdrassil tier artwork sets have no drop source. For the slots and classes affected, you'll only be able to fill out the transmog sets through utilizing the Revival Catalyst.

I'm still not clear on how this works exactly, but here's what I put in, upgraded, and the results I received:

I took a helm and gloves (I don't remember the source, but likely suffusion) that are on the Adventure track, and the ilvl was below 411. I used the revival catalyst on both then upgraded them both to 8/8, ilvl 450. I got the Aberrus LFR appearance to them as soon as I used the catalyst, but upgrading to 450 did NOT give me the normal Aberrus appearance.

I then took a blue cloak, Explorer 8/8, ilvl 437 and put it in the Catalyst. It gave me the LFR Aberrus set appearance but again not the normal raid appearance.

So I can conclude the following:
1. The item can be Rare quality
2. It can be Explorer or Adventure
3. Upgrading the helm and gloves to 450 did not give me the normal appearance

Questions/conclusions:
1. Does the base item have to be a minimum of every quality metric? Meaning, you would only get the normal raid appearance if the item was epic and Veteran and over ilvl 411?
2. Getting the LFR appearances seems to be easy; it's getting the appearances from the higher difficulties that seems to be the tricky part

Any insights, answers, or corrections are welcome.

So I tried to do the same thing to my Rare belt, Explorer 5/8. The catalyst would NOT accept it at all so I went back and fully upgraded it to 8/8, ilvl 437, but the catalyst still would NOT accept it.

The cloak I was able to convert the appearance one is exactly the same: Rare, Explorer 8/8, ilvl 437. So why would it allow the cloak but not the belt?

Now that Season 4 is upon us, how do we get season 3 gear? I thought Emerald Dream would still drop them but seems not. Do I have to do RF as the only option as I have a few pieces of transmog left to get.

The appearance of converted items will depend on their item level. Here are the item level breakpoints for transmog collectors:

Item level 483-489 items will have Raid Finder appearance.
Item level 493-502 items will have Normal difficulty appearance.
Item level 506-515 items will have Heroic difficulty appearance.
Item level 519+ items will have Mythic difficulty appearance.
Upgraded Bloody Tokens PvP gear (item level 450) converts to Normal difficulty appearance.
Non-upgraded Bloody Tokens gear cannot be converted.

Converted my ilvl 467 (Adventurer 1/8) Anachronistic Breeches and it removed the ability to upgrade the resulting ilvl 467 Breeches of the Furnace Seraph.
How do I know in advance if a given piece of gear will be upgradeable after using the Revival Catalyst?

So with Season 4 removing old crests, is it now safe to assume we can't upgrade old things to earn previous raid tier appearances through the various raid difficulties?

Cos I got bags full of gear on many toons that I was waiting for currency/resources to use and now can't?

I just want to be sure it's useless before nuking/selling :(

I really wanted to collect the Amirdrassil set for evoker. I had a bunch of 480 gear that I wanted to transform..... apparently because I had a low level helmet from the vault of incarnate set which I forgot I had, it transformed everything into the vault of incarnate evoker set that I wanted to transform. Even doing the Amirdrassil raid it dropped a token that converts to arm gear,,, it converted to the fre@king vault of incarnates arm piece X/ frustrating is an understatement.

So I'm trying to make a tracker for my Teir sets. Basically, it's about the transmog. I hope my slots will be free after the season is over if I run out of charges for all the looks.

First, the Veteran Helm/Shoulder and Chest can provide both LFR and Normal. So I bought two, upgraded one, and put them in the vault.
Next, I'll find Veteran of all the other slots I've outgrown by running delves or whatever and make sure I have a 1-4/8 and also a 5-8/8 to get both LFR/Normal.
I then have Champion from Delve 7/8 but using that for filling out holes. (so store in the vault 1-4/8 and 5-8/8) for either Normal I'm still missing or Heroic
Finally, if I get fortunate; slots for Heroic 1-4/8 for Heroic and then with 15 Gilded Crest get the Mythic transmog.

Keep in mind I'm not a raider but I'm very goal-orientated and work well with checklists. I'm not sure I will get close to many mythic slots, but here's hoping.

Just a quick note.. You can still collect your season set achievements using the catalyst by using epic event drops (480-489) from Dragonflight. The drop rate was fantastic around xmas 2024, lately (Mid Jan 2025) the drop rate seems to have cooled with more rares/less epic gear dropping. So my Mage was able to get the full amirdrassil LFR set, sadly all specs yeilded the same set. Its different on each class though! My Warlock gets Aberrus. I notcied this only recently and had to restore some legs I disenchanted to get 9/9 parts done & ticked off...

If anybody knows why the epic drop rate seems nerfed lately, I'd love any tips for my Warlock as she's stuck on 7/9 and really dont want to have to grind the entire instance each week.
