Midnight Season 2 Gearing Strategy for Restoration Shaman

Every week, if you have filled at least 3 slots in your great vault, you will be able to select a bonus roll instead of one of the available items.

For season two the items you get from the great vault and from bonus rolls are one tier above what the content drops. Heroic raid bosses will give myth-track loot in the vault and when you use bonus rolls on them, and Mythic bosses will give fully-upgraded myth-track loot.

Using a bonus roll on a boss guarantees you one item available to your current loot spec from that boss, and removes it from the bonus roll loot pool for you. This means that you can never get duplicate items from bonus rolling a boss until you have gotten every single item from that boss.

Selecting an item from your great vault directly does not remove it from the bonus roll pool. If you pick an item from your vault and then use a bonus roll on the boss that drops it, it is possible for you to get the same item again.

You can do mythic difficulty dungeons and delves during the week of august 11 to fill your great vault, but you won't be able to pick a bonus roll when you open this vault on the week of august 18. You can only select bonus rolls from vaults you get after the season starts properly.

You can fill a great vault the week before the raid opens, but you won't be able to pick a bonus roll from it. For the majority of people the best thing they can get from this vault is a tier set piece to accelerate their tier set bonus acquisition. If you are confident you can get your tierset bonus in a timeline manner without the help of this vault, you can pick a socket instead.

One to Three

Ula'tek has only three items on its loot table for Restoration Shaman, while Cuirasse croc-d’effroi éveillée is not amazing it is still an upgrade over hero-track pieces once upgraded and the other two items from the boss are very strong. You want to get the weapon and neck early on, so your first tree vaults of the season will be used to get bonus rolls to spend on this boss. If you luck out into rolling Jan’thrazet, le Crochâme and Reliquaire fléau-des-Aqir first, do not use your third roll on Ula'tek, move to the next option instead

Four to Eight

Nek'zali contains a lot of very good items for us, including the best trinket of the season Réceptacle rituel de l’Entortillâme. Being the first boss of the raid it is very easy to have access to this boss to use your bonus rolls. If your guild already plans to give you the trinket when it drops naturally, you can decide to not use bonus rolls on this boss to avoid the duplicate loot and instead move on to the next best option.

After several weeks of getting loot, everyone's situation will vary a lot. At this point the best thing you can do is sim your gear to find out what is the best possible source of loot for you and use your bonus rolls there.

Your most important slot is a weapon, but this season you are guaranteed to get a very strong weapon by week 4 at the latest due to your bonus rolls on Ula'tek. Crafting a weapon that you know you will replace in the first month of the season would be a waste of myth crests, so unless you really need to secure some extra power very early on your best choice is a shield.

Your second craft is a bit less valuable than the first due to other slots being less relevant than your weapon. You still want a second embellishment but the specific timing of when you craft it can vary depending on how lucky you get with your bonus rolls.

Eventually you will use sparks and myth crests to fill out any slots where you have had bad luck getting items. It can be a good strategy to craft on slots you know won't drop from bosses you are bonus rolling, as you know you will eventually get a myth-track item on that slot.

Reliquaire fléau-des-Aqir however, while still being very strong, presents a slightly lower increase compared to crafting your 2nd embellishment.

Upgrade your slots in order of importance

Your goal with upgrades is to get the most power possible. Different item slots have different amounts of stats so upgrading high-budget slots results in a bigger increase of stats. You should start by upgrading helm, chest, pants, and very good trinkets. After that, upgrade slots like shoulders, gloves, and belt. Jewelry is usually left for last as the lack of intellect means you gain a lower amount of stats from upgrading them as you do other slots.

Ula'tek contains incredibly strong loot for Restoration Shamans. Reliquaire fléau-des-Aqir, Cuirasse croc-d’effroi éveillée, and Jan’thrazet, le Crochâme are all very strong pieces and you want to get all of them as soon as possible. Bonus rolls will allow you to get them at myth-track even on the heroic difficulty boss.

Mythic Nek'zali

Having the best trinket of the season in Réceptacle rituel de l’Entortillâme Mythic Nek'zali is the next best place to use your bonus rolls after Heroic Ula'tek, as you can make good use of four out of the five items in its loot table. Being the very first boss of the raid means it is very accesible, and all the loot is very well itemized for us.

Litany, unless they finally fixed it, is overall not worth it. Even though it can do good HPS, the fact that lava burst can't proc the effect, at least last time I played it and this was post fix, is a massive downside to it as you can use your lava surges to proc it stall, and instead have to spend four globals on hard casting lightning bolt, which feels extremely clunky to do in order to try and get max value out of it.

Best in slot gear shows no crafted items at all, yet for crafted gear it says belt bracers and cloak are your best embellishment slots.

So which is it?

Hate to say this, but Icy Veins says bracers and cloak should be your endgame crafts for embellishments, yet this guide doesnt tell you this >.>

I am really curious to why you’d want to use bonus roll on last boss hc 1h wep early season.. In my mind it makes much more sense to craft a 1h or even a 2h. Depending if you feel like you really need that 2,4% increased healing and healing stream totem duration. A 2h would save you myth crests allowing you to upgrade more items. And you can easily get by just getting the wep from 1st boss HC or even m+ and save the bonus rolls for either mythic raid or a wanted dungeon item from +10’s. Like if you are rolling shaman later in the season. Sure crafting shield early makes sense, but doesn’t make sense at the start of the season. Really curious what you think of this.
