Weapon
Your weapon is the most important slot for item level increases, since weapon DPS is much more important than Strength or secondary stats for ability damage.

Strong Trinkets
Trinkets tend to have effects that are more valuable than regular gear, so if you have decent trinkets then they are often worth prioritizing for upgrades.

Chest, Helm, Legs
These slots have more Strength than other armor slots, so item level gains on them will usually be more important.

Any other upgrades will have similar value; you can compare them using tools like sims to see what specifically might be worth prioritizing.

Sad this guide is already outdated. Again... There's no mention of the 190 BoE Sword that it's BiS right now. There is also no analysis on Trinkets and pros/cons of their uses. Best Retribution stats right now are Haste/Crit and you miss out on Haste/Crit gear on the "recommended" list where there is such gear available right now. This is BfA all over again, Paladin Retribution guide rarely gets even close to the love that other wowhead guides get.

TLDR - Trinket tier list is not that accurate, run your own "gear comparison" simulations on RaidBots, it is really easy and very awesome!

Just as a point of order, regarding the trinkets tier list, this is not really as accurate as it should be, especially not after running tons of simulations on my ret paladin on Raid Bots, which I highly recommend when weighing up trinket options!

Most notably, Glande oculaire titanesque should be S-tier or A-tier, as it competes very well against Âme de vieux guerrier when at similar item levels with a marginal ~2% split for LFR quality versions (currently they are B-tier and S-tier BiS respectively)! This is heavily influenced by a lot of things, most notably by what your highest secondary stat is, due to how Glande oculaire titanesque works.

So again, I cannot stress this enough, go run your own simulations on RaidBots, they make it SUPER easy for you, even includes looking up your character to pull your items and stuff from the WoW Armory, and a search box to find the trinket(s) you want to compare, etc!

PS - The simulation I linked uses ilvl 213 Glande oculaire titanesque and 220 Âme de vieux guerrier, as these are the ilvl at which they drop in LFR. I did the same for Normal and Heroic, just to display the degree of differential in performance for my character specifically.

I notice Feu du combat is not mentioned in the trinket section. I have ilvl213 and it regularly out sims most other trinkets at ilvl220.

Seems to also be missing the trinket from Iron Docks, Enforcer's Stun Grenade, but that also seems like wowhead not having the higher ilvl version available. Example Image of an upgraded M+ version.

4 of the 17 recommended trinkets are not even from a start of Dragonflight addon. 2 more are PVP trinkets, maybe not worse but definitely, there are better options. Described mistakes lead to distrust in this guide

I agree with Relyn1106, this is a lazy guide at best. This page needs a serious update. Ok so if you had all the supposed BiS from the vault of incarnates list posted here and the BiS trinket (blazebinder's hoof) and all your gems & chants were haste, haste/mast you would be about 2000 haste short of coming close to hitting the cap of 35% (5100) before DR.

Ok so the page got updated but whoever did it is still being lazy and not putting any thought into it. Some of the M+ gear is now correct, but a lot of it is just cut and paste. Thankfully I know where to shop for my gear and not take this guide to heart.

Dumb question, but if Vers is the best secondary stat for Ret as of patch 10.1 why not make sure every piece at least has vers on it? I get crit having a soft cap but is there any reason to ever not have vers on a piece?

I am really surprised there is no discussion on shield/1 H Weapon use vs 2H weapon comparison study for RET Pally anywhere on the forum discussion..its got me kinda stymied..I have comments on the validity/disagreement and to the best of what i can find its kinda still a mixed discussion of varying thoughts.. I thought for sure Wowhead would be my ultimate go to advice for it.. thanks

Why would you have Collier ouroboréal as the BIS neck? The shield is based off fire damage, which ret does not have, unless you havePièce d’armure trempée dans l’ombreflamme and even then the stats are not anything you want.

The embellishment suggestion is a bit trap right now, I think that it assumes a high uptime for the lining, which is why I think they suggest it over flame patch, but flame patch is still better than any other embellishment at this moment in time, it could change in the coming weeks, but I would advise against blue silken lining for the moment.

Regarding BIS boots, I'm getting Sollerets of Hidden Stars simming higher than Boots of the Black Bulwark as Champion 4/8 for both. Now I feel bad for rolling need on the raid boots when the ones I had already were better.

Curious as to why Cris d’un ciel oublié (hero) isn't on this list of recommended trinkets to purchase, assuming one only does heroic raids and/or, where it would fall in the ranking if one only does heroic raids and times all dungeons on a +12. Seems like Cris d’un ciel oublié (hero) would be the #2 spot behind Stimulateur cardiaque improvisé à l’hydroglycérine, unless Antenne astrale still outperforms the Screams trinket with the Pacemaker.

It would be nice if the BIS had three lists; the overall BIS there is currently, one for gear only from raid, and one for gear only from M+. Not everyone raids, and not everyone does M+.

Unless my sims are broken, the Arbrisseau d’Auberacine seems to outsim / beat Coup de la guillotine de Zul’jin by far on 6/6 Hero track, unless you also have the weapon for the set bonus. So for those looking at a BIS list like this, take that into consideration.
