I find the best way to grind honor is just to do whatever BG you feel like you want to do. Doing achievements for the BG of your choice aswell can also be quite fun and get you alot of honor

The best event to do for straight honor is Tol Barad(assuming your faction can win and you're not on a low pop server)
The sheer amount of honorable kills can be huge, just play smart with the goal of staying alive as long as possible while involving yourself in as many battles as possible.
Go ahead and buy one of the guild banners for the extra 10-15% or whatever it is and keep in on CD during big skirmishes.
When Tol Barad isn't up just do random bgs. If you're on Arathi Basin make sure you sit on the little point near the BS flag to mooch HKs from the surrounding nodes. Just a little tip. This works well in BforG as well at the graveyard between Lighthouse and Mines.

as alliance ive had the best luck with strand of the ancients then AV. first off, get to 85. you get more honor at that level. do tol barad every chance you get. then do the battleground weekends, unless you keep losing. then move on to randoms. you can also convert valor (dungeons) to honor at a fee.
also try to stay active and stick with a group. its more honor that way.
