I would imagine that Sprirt is still very much the healing priest's friend (as it still provides a reasonable amount of mp5 with it).
Looking at the gear available for casters in WotLK I am seeing a load of gear with stam and a load of gear with spirit but not that much with both.
Just look at the tailoring craftables on the WotLKhead to get a feel for how much spirit is still in use.
I certainly think that with the change to casting costs, and the loss of downranking, we will be needing spirit more than ever to endure longer bossfights as healers.
it might be worth reading the Patch 3.0 patch notes (available on wowhead if you bother to look). i seem to remember a mention of how spirit will work there.

Ever since the changes to spirit a patch or two ago (I don't recall which exactly) I've LOVED stacking spirit on my priest. I'm in mostly KZ epics, a couple ZA, but with that gear I can get upwards of 700 mana/5 out of combat with raid buffs. And that's while maintaining over 1800 +heals. It really helps in the longer fights knowing that you'll last the whole time. AND with the way the talents are right now, more spirit = more +heal! It's a win/win situation! I can only hope that in WOTLK it'll continue to be the same way.

There haven't been any major changes thus far in WotLK regarding spirit mechanics, however a lot of abilities and talents have been changed to benefit from spirit(Life Tap, Fel Armor, Improved Tree of Life, etc.).

also, I noticed looking over items that a lot of them are int and spirit and not so much stam and int.. is this to make sure you get some spirit or?
If you look at the craftable items you will see that you have a lot of
spirit
items, but also a lot of
stam
items.
As the set bonuses for these crafted items require 4 of the 8 possible slots this means you can craft both sets and adjust them to suit your stam/int/spirit needs.
A good idea IMHO as previously set bonuses made some decisions about gear replacement very hard.
It is worth noting also that the spirit item I have linked increases crit rating too (following the concept for clearcasting/SoL procs) and the stam gear has haste rating.
Looking at the higher end items like
this
(PMC anyone?) you can see that spirit stam and int are all going to play big parts in being a healer.
It also looks like we're going to need Frost Resistance for endgame, judging by the craftables.
Hope this sheds more light on things.
