To post in this thread, you must provide a rating (1-10, 1 being 'awful', and 10 being 'great') of the movie review above yours (excluding the OP obviously), and provide a review of a movie of your choice (rated G-R).
Movie: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Review: ET is an old (1982) flick about this giant raisin that lands on earth and takes candy from children. For some reason, this film reminded me of the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), and it didn't surprise me to find they were both written and directed by Steven Spielburg. They are both movies that cast the antagonist as the government, and the protagonist as the alien. They also are both craptasticlly cheesy
Spielburg makes it a point to force realism into his characters. A good example is when the 8 year old boy jumps up and calls his brother a 'penis-breath' and the mom laughs it off. Another good example is how the first part of the movie is built around how sad the family is that the dad is gone to Mexico, for good, then it just drops that. It all seems very unrealistic, rehearsed, and awkward. In another of his films, Poltergeist, he had the parents do recreational pot smoking in bed. The scene felt like a lumpy afterthought that had been secured onto a finished movie with an old piece of duct-tape during editing. These awkward scenes make me feel as if Spielburg is trying to convince me they are normal people, but going about it in an abnormal way. I don't need to see the main character smoking pot, or children shouting obscenities, or taking a dump, or any other little stupid thing, to feel like I understand him. Leave awkwardness out of it.
Then there is that freaky mumbling shriveled lumpy rodent/owl/midget that climbs out of the bushes. For some reason, the other owlmidgets left him on earth. Why? I guess they forgot to do a head count or something. Anyway, he bonds with the children. How? Dunno. He grunts, eats their candy, drags their toys out into the bushes, and nearly kills one of them through a vulcan mind meld. Yeah... and they love him. If I were a kid I'd call the cops and look for where my dad kept the gun.
But the biggest and most amazing part of this movie has nothing to do with the movie, or Spielburg, or the lumpy walking turd, or anything you'll see in the movie. The most amazing thing is that so many millions of people LOVED this movie. Personally, it creeps me out. It's not the most awful thing I've ever seen, but it's close. When that alien's corpse is all wrapped up in plastic, and its brown turd blood has drained down to the bottom, and the little kid hugged it... I nearly ralphed up my turkey sandwich.
TLDR: Take your turd, Spielburg, and shove it back where you got it.

I would give you 7/10 for being articulate, and still being mudfish, but you lose a point for making me find a translator, so 6/10. This has to be the best post I've ever seen you type. Good job. I wanted to see that movie by the way.
The Time Traveler's Wife:
My wife really wanted to get this movie, so I surprised her with it on Valentine's day. It is definately a romantic movie, but a little different then I was expecting. Rachel McAdams stars in it, and you might remember her from 'The Notebook'. However, this movie differs drastically because the guy isn't 'perfect'. Both him and her make pretty bad decisions. There were a few parts that made me uncomfortable. This was my only "negative" opinion of it, and even that isn't really "negative".
The time traveling was done very well. Usually movies leave loopholes and inconsistencies when they involve time travel. There are a few in this movie, but the loopholes aren't so awful that I feel the need to criticize. That fact alone makes this movie remarkable.
If your a sappy weakling that cries easily (
Skyfire
), then don't watch it in front of a woman you are trying to impress, unless she's into sniveling little boys. I didn't shed tears, but I definately felt moved by a few parts. Overall, it was an excellent work of Sci-Fi that'll score you brownie points with the misses. That makes for two thumbs up!
