Each few days, I'm getting more and more familiar with this game, but I know there's still more to learn. Just discovered that you can ask the sentinels or guards for directions!
Something I want to understand is about Battle Pets. I've seen some good guides about the different types, but nothing oriented for new players explaining how you get one. Are they only for certain classes or professions? Do you have to be a certain level or ahve certain items or achievements?
If it helps to answer, I'm a lvl 16 Night Elf Druid, junior apprentice skinner and just decided on first aid for a secondary profession, currently exploring Darkshore.(##RESPBREAK##)520##DELIM##Pegasus2141##DELIM##Moved to the Battle Pets forum.

1st, are you on an active full account, or are you using a trial account (starter edition)? Starter additions do not have access to pet battles. Here's the link:

If you are on a full account then you should visit your faction pet trainer. Check out the guides section on this site to find helpful info regarding this topic.
Here's one that may help. Some of it may be outdated or changed, but some should still apply and help you start pet battles.

Hi mp! A couple of things:
You can have up to two primary professions. Typically people pick things that pair well together, either because they're looking to make money (two gathering professions) or a gathering profession that feeds the crafting profession (ie. skinning and leatherworking). You can have
all
the secondary professions (first aid, archaeology, cooking, fishing).
As for your question about battle pets, PTs is right that you need to be on a full account and not a starter edition. If you are on a full account, any one of your faction's pet trainers (
https://www.wowhead.com/search?q=battle+pet+trainer
) can train you in battle pets.
Then, like PTs said, you can use any of the guides you found on battle pets. Here is the guide section:
