Leveling as Prot?

Having recently leveled another warrior as protection, I can assure you that they way the talent trees were redesigned for the Wrath of the Lich King has completely rendered that "prot is too slow for leveling" thing obsolete. Of course, I'm also leveling an arms warrior. Here's how I pretty much can sum up the experience.
Arms: ...I don't even really know what happened. Just all the enemies died.
Protection: I think I'll just keep fighting until I decide to take a break. As many as I can. As fast as I can.
Blizzard has done a good job of overhauling all of the class trees so there's not one "bad" spec for leveling, anymore. They realized that wasn't fun.
But, yes. Leveling as protection is completely viable, and ignore people who say otherwise. I would strongly recommend picking up improved thunderclap, improved revenge, last stand, and shield mastery. Once you get to the point where you get concussion blow, after that, everything kind of just flows.

Although I could definitely see how Last Stand could come back to bite you in the ass, I've use it fairly frequently for an Oh *!@# button, and I've yet to have it kill me. It may have some drawbacks, but it can definitely save your ass.

It's cool that you don't want to count Improved revenge, but it's still a stun, and it still can interupt. You also get Concussion Blow at 30 And yes Shield bash. You might not think it's much, but it's more than Fury has. Also, Since Revenge is on a very short cooldown. Shield Bash on a 12 Sec, And Cblow on a 30 second one, you pretty much always have one available.
Many skills to prevent getting hit, to interrupt etc. Sorry i prefer to kill before anything will be cast than wait for the cast.
Dps: Revenge, Heroic Strike, Thunderclap, Cblow, Rend, Cleave, Maybe even Sunder Amror if you're into that. You''ll have plenty of buttons to push, even before you get Shield Slam and Devestate.
Again a lot of skills to use, a lot of GCDs to waste a lot of seconds while killing a few mobs for quest.
I leveled prot for to about 25 lvl till a realised i dont need to be prot to tank efficienly with shield on. Shield spec changes a lot? Once every 40s you not get rage starved IF you fight more mobs.
I know a few things changed, buffed Revenge damage, buffed def stance etc etc.
I rerolled warrior from Hunter, it was most annoying part of any char leveling ever. I cant count the number of times i died due to bad pull. I used insane amount of health pots. Last stand really doesnt help you much, the avoidance/mitigation isnt enough to prevent you from dying even after you finish fight. Last stand finishes and you simply die before you manage to bandage/eat. Warrior really does not have "oh sh%t" buttons in early leveling.
I though leveled as prot 70-80, just because i was too lazy to switch spec for leveling. It was not bad. But now when i try to grind as prot i kill 8 times faster as arms.
As of level 41, my spec currently is:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#LZZmIpbx0zib:qbZ0
And I have to say, it's leveling far faster than, say, my priest, shaman, or warlock. The actual playstyle, however, is varied. Sure, you have difficulty gaining rage initially. That's why you improvise. I start out in battle stance, charge the target, rend them, by then I smack them again, giving me enough rage to shield slam (As of recently, 40.), or use Thunderclap. I quickly switch over to defensive stance, and by now I usually have a dodge or block or some such done by then, so I revenge, then heroic strike. Poof. The mob is dead. Takes an average of about 10 seconds, depending on how long it takes to block/mob level. And with no rage issues. I take advantage of every little ounce of rage I can muster, using each point efficiently. If I grab a bunch of guys, I just throw around some rends, and revenge when necessary, thunderclapping in between revenges. If I need some more rage, I can just use bloodrage. I don't think I've died yet. Without a healer. (Except when I tried a group quest 3 levels above me. Psh.) ;)
So please, don't bash protection. I'm leveling with it RIGHT NOW, so I can say that it works very well, either on a single target or on multiple targets.

Oh really? I just managed to create one of worst leveling specs ever:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#LArI00cZGVxc0iZbhx0gfd:RkLc
is it viable?
A spec described as "requires level 80" is not a leveling spec.

Not sure whether you quote the right person, but i clearly wrote that i leveled in early TBC.
Also you dont get Bloodthirst till like level 40, the above deaths may have occured before that.

So then where do you get off on thinking you can say it's awful right now? I'm leveling as protection as of this moment. (Hell, I have WoW open right now, on a flight path.) And yes, I quoted the right person.
Also, taking someone's comment completely out of context isn't good. You're just trying to prove an unprovable point, because apparently you don't really know what you're talking about when you say protection can't level fast. And dies. A lot. According to you.

Should I be putting Puncture into a leveling build? The prot leveling guides I've seen seem to recommend it, but I don't see it pretty much any prot warriors' builds. It'll make it easier to spam Devastate for SnB procs, but I'm just not sure if it's worth it.
What I'm currently planning for my build (in the prot tree at least), is something like this:

Anything there that has no place in a leveling spec? (Vigilance is for when I run instances.)

Thanks for the advice. I'm still pretty low level (39 now), so a lot of that was being forward thinking and I'm still waiting for a lot of key abilities. But taking your advice, I went back and respecced, putting the points from Avoidance into Improved Disciplines and putting more points than I had had yet into One-Arm Spec. I don't know if the dodge from Avoidance had been making me rage starved, or if the extra damage from One-Arm Spec was key, or if it was talented and glyphed SW being a big boon to my survival, but things were going much, much smoother with the new set-up.

Well, sure, if you're going to go out of your way to create a horrible spec, sure, you can do it. I mean, you can create a frost spec for mages that doesn't try to improve frostbolt in any way.
That doesn't mean that the frost spec is bad. Just like if I go out of my way to create a horrible meal with the best ingredients, that doesn't mean the ingredients are bad.
The problem, in that case, would be with the user.
You can't just say a spec is bad because you want to make it bad. Well, you can, but that's just not even a little true. I can make a druid healing spec that doesn't place any emphasis on HoTs, and then claim that druids are horrible HoT healers.
You want to shoot yourself in the foot when you get your gun? Be my guest.
