I think this sheds some light on it.

But at the same time, it says int he statement that other cycling organizations are calling out the USADA. Something smells fishy.

I think he's given up. He's tried to clear his name a number of times, and people don't care. There are a lot of sportspeople out there whose success lends itself to cheating allegations. I know not many people follow the cricket, but the bowler with the world record number of wickets, Murali, has fought allegations of cheating his entire life. Despite being cleared umpteen times through biomechanical tests over the years, people still accuse him of chucking (you're not allowed to bend your arm when bowling in cricket, compared to baseball), and it's persisted into his retirement. At some point, you're bound to give up fighting it.

As has been said, at some point you'll end up tired of fighting such accusations. Apparently, for Lance Armstrong that point is right about now. Many sportsmen are accused of cheating and despite having their names cleared over and over, people keep accusing them - senselessly and baselessly.
I don't know if it's about jealousy or if it's just the simple belief that Lance Armstrong couldn't have been that good naturally, for some reason, but either way I think it is outrageous.
No, I do not believe Lance Armstrong is guilty of anything, and I think USADA is at fault here. As Funden (Benzene
^^
) said, other cycling organizations are calling out USADA for breaking several of their own rules. I mean, honestly - if there is anything suspicious here, it is not Lance Armstrong but rather USADA:

How does the saying go? "Damned if you do, damned if you don't"? I think that fits the situation well. If Armstrong keeps fighting the USADA's claims, it'll impact his family in some ways, and if he gives up it might impact his family in other ways, like your example.

yup. Why bother fighting. After 13 years, hundreds of passed blood and urine tests, a 2 year federal criminal investigation that led to nothing......and still some a-hole that wants to try and make a name for himself continues to press and press....I would give up too.
I think ultimately this will be a deth nail in cycling. You cant take an icon of a sport, and level charges against him, and never prove a single thing, and expect people and sponsors to support your sport.

Interesting side note: The phrase is "death
knell
" and refers to the ringing of a bell upon death.
Please don't take this as condescension. I'm a massive nerd for these sorts of things(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

The man passed 500 drug tests during his career. Just how many more does he have to pass?
Apparently, it doesn't matter, since they can just get 10 people to say he did bad things, and ignore all the test results. Nothing can possibly be wrong or crooked with this system.

Innocent until proven guilty; not guilty until proven innocent.
I find it astounding how many people will believe someone is guilty unless he fights to prove his innocence. That's not how it works; not in my country at least. Say someone went to the police and said I robbed a bank, but I didn't. I'm not going to go through stringent tests over and over and over and over to prove anything. I'm not in the wrong, I've got nothing to prove. If you think I've done wrong its
your job
to prove it. Not the other way around.
Now if Lance Armstrong continually refused to take drug tests or hid from it, I might think he did it. But with as many tests as he has taken over the years I am confident he didn't. That's my personal stance.
Tell me; what more can Lance Armstrong do to prove his innocence? Has he not subjected himself to trying to prove it in the past? Eventually it becomes pointless. Honestly, I commend him for acknowledging that people won't give up and trying to move past it. He's done everything he could, why keep repeating the same stuff?

was Non sequitur already taken when you chose your wowhead name?
This seems very wrong, as others have said how many tests must he pass? Would love to know the whole story.

Just looking at this, I think the accusations are a pile of bs.
What else can I say but "@#$%ing people?" I can't blame him for just "giving up" and given there really isn't any evidence of his so-called cheating, in my eyes he's innocent.

What's the point of testing blood and urine when you can just line up people to say he did it and accomplish the same thing?
USADA wants us to ignore 500 clean tests and focus on "eyewitness testimony" (from people
also
accused of doping, mind you). But you
know
if the situation was reversed, and he paraded out 10 archangels that swore on various holy books that he never doped, but had
one
positive test, they would utterly crucify him.
Either the science works or it doesn't. This is not Burger King; USADA can't have it both ways depending on what favors them most.
And
where is the damn evidence anyway?
As much as they've publicized this, I've seen nothing as far as actual evidence goes. If I was the head of USADA and had incontrovertible proof that he doped, I would be in a Santa suit driving door-to-door showing it off to everyone that would look. Just put it to bed already.
The more I analyze this situation, the more I agree with Armstrong's decision to just give it up. Someone at USADA has an obvious hard-on for persecuting him, since they've been at it for
14 years
.
Don Quixote
would be proud. And the house has clearly rigged this game in its favor. There is no point in playing when you've lost before you even sit down at the table.

it's in their right to throw out those accusations and milk all of the money out of him legally.
