Hello all,
I am a lvl 60 goblin warlock, but my professions are alchemy and herbalism. I wanted to get the flying machine mount because its a cool racial mount but everyone says that you need the engineering profession in order to make it yourself.
My question is, If i were to change my profession to engineering, make the mount and meet all the requirements to ride the mount, can i change my profession back and still be able to ride the flying machine, or would i always have to have at least one of my professions be engineering to ride it?

No once you make it you need to stay in engirneering to have the ability to ride it. It will say below the name something like "Requires level 375 Engineering". So yes, you can switch to engineering then switch, but if you do you will not be able to ride it anymore, it will just remain in your mounts tab.

Along with what the above responders have said, the flying machine mounts are not racial mounts. They are profession mounts.

I think he meant it fit in well with his character's race, being a goblin and all. Not sure though.

lorewise they dont really fit.
Gnomes are the ones who invented flying machines, Goblins are more akin to using zepelings. Of course, one doesn't exclude the other, but so far, I've yet to see the first gnomish zepeling or goblin flying machine (in-lore)

as for your original question, no, the flying machine requires you to be an engineer to use it.
you could level engineering, craft the machine, learn it, and then unlearn engineering, but then untill you re-learn engineering again, and level it back to the min required, you will be unable to use the flying mount.
the only engineering-crafted mount usable by any common folk who dont love to work with an arclight spanner is the bike (Mechano-hog on the horde, and the Chopper for the alliance)

This "cool looking mount" is expensive and trouble. If your goblin is your first character I do not recommend crafting professions what make durable equipment. Like engineering, tailoring, leather working and blacksmithing.

The flying mount is not expensive at all, and is very easy to make. Getting to 375 to make it takes no time at all either. And if he wants to switch thats his call, professions are not supposed to make or break you in pve or pvp situations and most people pick up ones that they like or do not have yet. A friend of mine has a warrior with enchanting/tailoring simply because it was easy to level enchanting and he wanted to have the flying carpet mount.
