Final Ret DPS Gear (PvE)

As a retribution paladin, I am calling my fellow experienced retribution paladins to assist in a BiS list for a maximized equipment build at end-game. This build also assumes that the user is absolutely obsessed with DPS, like I am, and is willing to level Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting as this is proven to be the best boost to DPS damage. Since enchants for retribution raiding paladin are already decided on by the great minds at elitistjerks.com, and they match every other source of information, including personal picks, I will just paste what they have.

Cloak: Enchant Cloak - Greater Speed
Bracers: Enchant Bracers - Greater Assault
Hands: Enchant Gloves - Crusher

Feet: Enchant Boots - Icewalker (unless you are way over hitcap, use this)
Weapon: Enchant Weapon - Berserking

I will go through later and factor in socket bonuses, and add up critical rating and other pertinent stats. To summarize, this equipment build contains maximum hit rating through the equipment itself, and contains only one socket with a +10 expertise/+10 defense rating gem to cap expertise.

Room for improvement is in there, and I am also aware that the +20 strength gems are not yet available. If this build is used in the current patch, the +16 strength gems () are the next best thing.

Specifically, I want to discuss the second trinket, as there seem to be no trinkets that have a proc ability AND add to strength (other than the Darkmoon Card which is already there), and I'm not high enough level or rich enough to test other Retribution DPS trinkets. I was specifically looking at the Flare of the Heavens and the Fury of the Five Flights trinkets. Another specific place to look for improvement is the back item. I used a tank cape because it provided the most strength and expertise I could find, making it the most relevant I could find at the time.

I am going to post, but I will edit in all the links to equipment, and throw in the enchantment chart just so all the equipment related things are in one place.

The Resolute Flawless Ametrine also has +10 defense rating which is useless to ret paladins

I used them because of the bonus to expertise. In the new patch, as I understand, expertise has become almost parallel to hit rating in DPS increases. I didn't find another necklace or back piece that had expertise and much strength other than what is there. With that cape and necklace, it frees sockets from maxing expertise and allows for more strength to be added than using a different necklace/cape. Unless there is a cape with both strength and attack power which may outweigh the strength gem route.On that note, it is very late and I am kind of tired so I did not do much math on those pieces as they were the last two I put in. It is open to discussion.

Not capitalized to insinuate anger, just want to make sure everyone sees it :D. If you have suggestions for those pieces please post them.

EDIT: Going offline for the night, I intend to incorporate full stat counts and enchants in the thread tomorrow. All criticism is greatly appreciated. My intention for this thread is to make a list of BiS items, for those that missed it in original post.

EDIT 2: Reyan, please read the bottom paragraphs, I said that I did that already, as I couldn't find a gem that socketed expertise and a useful DPS stat. Suggestions are welcome.

i completely understand that this is an effort to inform nayrbs, but socketing and using tanking pieces solely for expertise cap, i feel, would gimp dps, but i guess that is also my opinion and im open for corrections.

NOTE: im just showing all necks and backs with strength since i feel those are stats that are best suited for ret paladins but there are several other necks available with AP and whatnot. Some are not BiS either. If you want to find them, youre on a WoW database.

Agreed that the neck choice is awful. Also, why wouldn't Ruthlessness be a choice of ring instead of Circle of Death, and tanking cloak? For the new pallies, Strength, Crit, Hit, Stamina, that is all you want with your gear. If you see block, dodge, spell power, defense rating, then you are not talented for ret. Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys, made the changes. Used Ruthlessness, Drape of Fuming Anger and Frigid Strength of Hodir. This leaves us about 33 points short of expertise cap, but the extra strength will offset the change in Dps, and increase by a little if my math is correct. Still, no one has posted any thoughts about the second trinket, I myself can still not decide the best option for this slot.

I believe nothing with attack power and agility on it is a BiS for ret paladin, regardless of item level.
Other then that i will never get this gear so i wont bother brainstorming.
Oh, and please, dont forget to tell me that my opinion is wrong 'cause my gear is crap.
