I've seen people post stories of leveling to 60/70/80 by:
* Only doing instances
* Only questing
* Only killing mobs
* Without dying
So, who wants to be the first to go from 1-85 solely through gathering (and discovering areas?) Will anyone even try it?

It's doable, but I sure as hell won't. Already out of character slots and have no desire to start on yet another realm (already starting on one with friends as is =D)

More or less doing it now on my Druid; Instance runs, Archeology, and a small number of questing.

I guess that is the "more or less" part of the post. :)
Anyway, the reason I thought of this is I dinged 81 gathering a herb and 83 entering a zone. I found that to be odd and it just got me thinking. One thing is for sure ... I won't be the one trying it.

If your intentions are leveling the slowest way possible, have fun then.

You can level by Archeology; you'll need to do something else to hit 20, but once you can learn it, you get fairly good exp per level; currently, non-rested getting 6356 exp per fragment pick up, and with rested you get about double that(also have the shoulders/chest BoA's heh).

This would be hard for the simple fact that unless you have someone killing everything in your way you will kill stuff or something because to gather you will pull aggro from close mobs.

Yeah on my paladin like 2wks ago I spent like a entire day doing nothing but Archeology and did manage to ding from 82-83, however I could not imagine doing nothing but Gathering profs to level, even with the decent exp Arch gives.

the only problem i see with that is that a lvl 20 can't really loot the digsites of low level areas. At some point you are forced to go there, no matter what.
/shrug I don't know, for some reason while starting it up, the only two sites that kept popping up for me that were easy to get to were the Zoram Strand and Bathran in Ashenvale. Once I was in the 30's though, more and more sites started showing up in areas I could get to. But that's why I put in I also instance and did some of the starting zone quests; to gain it up.
Also, you'd have to quest for the first 5 levels on the standard toon, and the first 10-15 on Worgens and Goblins, other wise, you can't get out of the starting zones.
