Ok, so heres my situation. I'm trying to create panels for my UI but i do not understand the "alpha channels" business.
I've already created the pictures and merged the layers etc in Macormedia Fireworks and now just need to do all this "alpha channels" stuff.
Anyone able to explain this stuff to me in a step by step guide, using the program GIMP (i just downloaded it for alpha channels stuff) or photochop (which i have at tafe).
Thank you in advance, help is appreciated!

I can only explain for Photoshop I'm afraid.
1: Once you have your image, go to select, then "load selection" (alternatively, you can ctrl+click the image of your layer in the layers window), you should now have your entire layer selected (the beeline going around it).
2: Click on the channels tab and click "create new channel", that should turn everything black. Then you want to select the paint bucket tool and fill your selection with white.
3: Save your image as a .png and download "BLP2PNG" from WoWInterface (or wherever else you can get ahold of it), follow the directions and you should end up with a .blp of your image. After that it's simply a matter of putting it in the right directory and opening it in-game. You'll get much better results with this than simply saving the image as a .tga and using that.
Pretty sure that's it...don't think I've missed anything.

Ok i give up, i inserted into WoW... image was pure white and messed up with the in-game graphics (basalisks and shaman tier 4 went lime green?)
Guess ill just keep on making pretty gradients lol.

You're using discord art to put it in-game, right?
The image should be an 8bit RGB in photoshop, assuming you've done that and followed the directions above, I don't see why discord would mess with any other textures whatsoever.
I tell you what, upload the .psd of whatever it is you want in-game to megaupload or something and post the link here, I'll try and fix it for you.
