Your Preferred Tank?

Going to finally start playing again with this new patch and want to try out tanking for the first time. I wanted to play one that I could heal with on my off-time outside of instances, so Warrior and DK are out unfortunately.
Between Paladin and Druid
, which do you prefer to be in a group and which would you recommend to play as a first time
tank
? Both seem a bit simplified now, although Druid looks to be narrowed down to 3-4 buttons nearly.

Do you prefer 3-4 button Tanking or Healing. Your answer will dictate which class you should choose. 3-4 button tanking is druid. 3-4 button healing is paladin. Both class fill both roles pretty well.

I prefer paladins tanking (I may be bias) one because our Mt in ulduar is a paladin, and two I've never seen a druid tank anything heroic +

Well, what I meant about healing in my off time are things like BGs (I run them A LOT) and backup healers for say Heroics, not to be raiding as a healer.
Either way I prefer the way these two tank best and they seem both capable, so its hard to decide.

Both does the job reasonably fine, so I can't really chose between me and any of my mates who also have tank chars (druid/warriors - none of our DKs seems to want to tank :/ ).
With 3.2 coming out today/tomorrow though, it remains to be seen how much Druids have been nerfed in the dodge department. But paladins will definantly be slightly overpowered due to the new Ardent Defender.

As a Destro warlock, I like Pally tanks a lot. I don't know anything about the mechanics and it could just be I get grouped with really good ones, but they seem to create a lot more threat then druids, especially when I decided to
make it rain
.

As what YJMark said, it doesn't really matter what class you really choose as long as they know what they're doing to a point and understand mechanics of their class. I guess out of the two you asked.. I'd pick a Paladin not only for it's Righteous fury, but it's abilities that they have that are great. Ardent Defender now is pretty nice, though it's not controlled by the player like a Warrior's Last stand.
Anyways.. I play a Warrior tank as my main and I am prefered over Paladins/DKs/Druids in some fights that require fast aggro and quick abilities to save my life in desperate situations.

why you preffer some tank? there can be perfect druid tank and bad prot paladin, i prefer just good tank no matter if he is druid, paladin,dk or warrior. everyone is good and i think that paladin is overrated, in 3.2 at coliseum(dont know how spell it :( ) where will be a little to no trash, dk or war will be better i think than prot paladin now on trash(i know pal is good at single tanking, but dks and war are better at single tanking)

Since they are both equal in potential and I like tanking with either, its probably going to go down to a coin toss :<

Both tanks will give you what your after, the chance to MT/OT, and a 2nd spec to heal where you choose too. As you already understand, neither is "better". Paladins will be better on some fights, Druids on others.
Couple of things to
bear
in mind...
- Paladins have for a long time now had excellent AoE aggro, once something is standing in consecrate, it isnt gonna budge (trash). Coupled with other multi-target threat moves a paladin will have mulitiple mobs sticking to him to like glue with very little effort.
- This isn't to say that druids cant hold AoE threat, just that for a paladin it isn't as hard, and losing aggro is very unlikely.
- Bear's have a higher Hp pool. Period. If you like seeing massive amounts of Hp, go for a bear. The downside of this is that they have only one true form of avidance; dodge. This generally mean that they will "take" more hits than their paladin or warrior (or DK?) counterparts, hence the higher Hp pool to allow healers to cope.
- Paladins on the other hand, are, with the onset of 3.2, making an apparent return (though this has yet to be seen) as possible block tanks. The use of a sheild in addition to the ability to parry will mean that a paladin will have a lower HP pool, but will also avoid a greater percentage of attacks (parry+dodge combined) - especially in the new patch where dodge is getting a slight nerf, and parry a slight buff.
For a first time tank... in all honesty a paladin will likely be "easier" for you to learn, there is arguably a greater margin for error in what you do, so long as you hit the 5 main buttons, you will invariably have very few threat problems. There is also a nice rotation to follow (69696) which makes palaidin tanking very simple to pick up.
Can't say much about druids as i havent tanked with once since TBC, but from what i understand they are on an equal footing with all the other tanking classes.
P.S. This patch also gave pallies a huge buff in the form of a revamped talent. You can effectivly "die" once every 2 minutes and pull through :) - I'm hugely bias as i play a paladin tank, but i've never had a single issue with threat, even when i was just starting heroics playing with raid geared dps.

Both druids and paladins are awesome tanking classes. They can get the job done. Tanking is a lot of fun with any of the tanking classes generally. Good cooldowns, good survivability, good threat.
Seriously, dont base your class choices on this kind of research. You will only get lots of oppinions based on what kinds of tanks do the people have in their guilds.
Base it on your personal preference. Whats better, a nature dude or a holy dude?

Druids do still have higher armor to my knowledge aswell.

I prefer paladins. From my raiding experience, druids have horrible TPS. But that might just be the dude pushing the buttons.

I prefer druids because they won't roll on tanking plate if I'm on my DK doing dps and want to take for the tank spec :)

I used to hate my druid tank... pre 3.1 i was about to switch classes because we had no AoE at all (swipe only hit a few targets and they had to be infront of you) After swipe went 360 and we got things like savage defense (our only mitigation besides dodge and armor) I started to love it again.
Having tanked some things as a pally and DK there are some things that I like dislike.
Bears have one taunt, so if it misses or you need it twice in a row you can be in trouble (i have glyphed for it but ive seen it miss once) They have an Aoe taunt but in a raid it can be a real bad idea for one tank to all of the sudden be tanking everything.
Pallys are also fun to tank with though it is weird worrying about mana rather then rage as soon as you start getting hit you are fine. (ive only pally tanked up to about 62so far) One thing that I really like about the pally tanking, is that As i get geared I can actually see it while i tank haha. Though with the reskinning of bear/cat at least druids look cool.
And while I wish my Druid tank had deathgrip (which i looove for grabbing adds esp casters) Everything else is fun and I can put out a ton of threat. Also you dont have to worry about being Def capped so it can be easier to gear up.
P.S.
On a side not I think the reason that people have been seeing less Druid tanks is because the cat DPS has gone through the roof.
