You cannot ''delete'' a WoW account. How would you quit forever?

Disclaimer: thread inspired by some "old" players/blogs (BRK, Restoforlife, ...) who decided to quit and move away from the game
The WoW account panel gives us a lot of things to do: name change, gender change, payment plans, server transfers, recruit a friend and more. One thing you cannot do even if you're 100% sure of your choice is... deleting the account. Even after setting a new random email/password you could contact Blizzard saying you're the owner of a specific credit card... and they wold restore your info (at least your account details).
If one day you had to take the final decision: "
YES, I want to destroy my account!
"... What would you do? How would you act to avoid the classic situation where you try to go away but ... you still know that a mail to Blizzard would restore your account?
Of course they know that you can always come back.. so they wont let you physically disappear from the game... but sometimes people just need to do that, maybe someone wants to quit in the real sense of the word. QUIT, not "temporary" stopping. For some players WoW is like smoking or -even worst- gambling/drinking. What could they do to lose FOREVER gold, toons, etc?

Nothing.
It's in Blizzards' best interest as a company to keep the door open to their customers, and in that spirit, they have disks upon disks of backups for player files.
If you're that addicted to the game that you can't manage it with your own self control, you need therapy from licensed professionals.

If you're that addicted to the game that you can't manage it with your own self control, you need therapy from licensed professionals.I agree on that. I perfectly understand that "loving" a game is one thing and "being addicted" is a whole another story... but there ARE people who cannot manage to quit the game. Having a "
goodbye
" button could help them maybe. I cannot imagine myself forgetting about my real life but apparently... lots of people fall in this trap (both young and older ones). After all... I still cannot understand why (and how) people pay money to smoke cigarettes (and in my country cygs are
exclusively
sold by the State...).
Well, considering the WOW file is like 13 gb, uninstall it and walk away. If you've go the urge to play again, you'll have a good chunk of time to reconsider while you install and download updates.
Valid one, yes. Stilll I suppose that new patches/content would be a perfect temptation for players who just deleted the client... :)
A small note: I see a general tone that assumes I am "owned" by the game and desperately look for a way to stop playing. Nope, I just started the thread to share your opinions on a problem that affects lots of players. BRK is/was considered one of the top bloggers in the wow scenario and we now discover that he was poorly dedicating to his wife and son (just read the blog, I'm writing his words). I for myself love this game but get bored on a constant basis, making me more a casual than a dedicated subscriber.

As others have said, a Goodbye Button may help the hopeless addict, but Blizzard gets very little out of it. The disk space they'd save from completely purged characters is miniscule. But what really kills it dead is the fact it would be abused. Think about how frequently you've heard of people who've had their characters deleted by hackers, mischievous siblings or angry significant others. Now imagine the power to completely delete the account being delivered into those same hands. It's not even worth a thought exercise, because no amount of security would prevent it from being abused in such a fashion.

If you are quitting though, take it slowly like quitting smoking. If u simply just 'pull the plug' then things can get ugly. Doing that can make people have increased levels of aggression similar to heroin and other drug addicts
Valid point, very interesting. Just let me remind you again that it's not ME... I have no problems with this game guys, I'm just sharing opinions :-)

Hmmm I've never considered this aspect. Still I think it's more a commercial decision than a "safety" option. But it's a good answer, yes. One thing to notice is that "lost" stuff cannot be recovered after few days (3?).
That said,
is it really true that Blizz keeps track of every single item in the game, even after weeks or months
? I remember when mounts were changed to occupy no slots in your bags I asked a GM to restore my 60% gryphon mount (I already had my 280% so no need to keep a 60%). He said he could not. I explained how and when I got it (it was like 3 months before) and he said it was impossible.

If the point of a goodbye-button would be to stop someone from ever playing Wow again it wouldn't work.
First of all a goodbyee-button is not needed. The addict just gives the account to someone else who changes the login info and or deletes the toons. The addict can no longer acces his characters.
Secondly even if an account could be deleted completely the addict can just buy the game again and create a new account.
There are two main reasons I can see Blizzard not implementing a goodbye-button. First of all, as has been said, the point is to keep people playing. The option that someone can return makes more businessense than the option to allow complete deletion of characters.
Secondly, and to my mind more importantly, if you allow complete deletion there'd be a lot of mails about people who want their accounts back. That's a lot of work you can save yourself by not having a goodbye-button.

But as I wrote above, deleted stuff (gold and items) cannot be restored after a specific amount of time. Is it true or not, as I remember a GM not allowing me to restore a mount I deleted 3 months before?
I tried... it doesn't work :) that's why a lot of people get their accounts banned, so they have not incentive to try and relevel a new game account
Ha! That's the possible REAL solution: trying to get banned. That way you're screwed as you should change credit card too, I guess. So a fast way could be installing bots and start doing stupid things (or just spamming in trade/general that you're doing something with a bot and need assistance lol...).
Botting = banning = goodbye forever. Is it? I know you can always buy a new copy of the game and apply for a new account but I think that starting from scratch would kill any addiction.

3times xp gain. Free zebra mount. As long as you have a friend grouped with you though
OT
- Your friend must be maximum +5 levels. You wont get 300% xp if you start a level 1 toon and party with a level 7+ friend. Leveling 1-60 will take you more than 2 days anyway.

If you don't want to play anymore just don't play, there's no need to cancel your account
I know, of course you can just stop but this thread aims to those players who are completely addicted and cannot stop, much like people who try to stop smoking and wants a solution.
The "
banned
" solution seems the best
. In any case you can always start from scratch (as well as you will always be able to buy cigarettes even if you stop smoking). But I guess that losing an old and "powerful" account could help a lot when fighting against the Wow daemon :). Banned accounts get their credit card banned too and that's a great thing.
