Why is Illidan the enemy?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but something just doesn't make sense...
We are on Maiev's side and kill Illidan with her, yet in Warcraft something totally contradicts that. Remember? Malfurion & Illidan had an agreement that Illidan still had to be banished from Azeroth, but could at least be let live?
Maiev is outraged and goes to kill the demon anyway. Malfurion's obviously a character whose side we are on (mainly to Alliance, but sometimes he can be neutral). In fact, he's supposed to be
way
more of a guy we listen to than her.
Still, instead of being with the wise (and much more known in lore) druid guy who knows best, we listen to the crazy demon-discriminating-no-exceptions $%^&*. Why were we on her side even though there was an understanding?

We went to Outland to stop the demonic advance of the Burning Crusade, and Illidan was carrying out genocide against the orcs and draenei. We stopped him because of that, and his association with demons. (Even though those demons were technically enemies of the Legion.)

Also note there have been some ambigous statements about Illidan's alignment in Legion. My assumption is, he will be forced to work with the Legion, but eventually break free and fight back, most likely with our assistance, causing him to overlook our involvement in his defeat atop the Black Temple.
For now.

Malfurion never banished Illidan exactly, he just told him to never bother the Night Elves again....which the Emo-King didn't keep his half of the bargain. I'm hoping that the whole Illidan thing is only in flash backs for the Demon Hunter starting zone and we don't actually have to put up with the arrogant, self-absorbed, jealous ridden, sister-in-law loving moron for the expac.

Hey, that'd still be a more interesting character than most of the others :P

A whiner is not an interesting character....and really, that's all Illidan does(mind you though, I'm the most vocal hater of the Emo-King on the board so take it all with a ton of salt).

Illidan also betrayed his people for power....twice in the same war depending on how you look at it; he betrayed the allies for the Highborne, then betrayed the Highborne for the allies.

To me, the only constant in Illidan is that he always looks after himself, above all others. I would reckon that he sees Tyrande as a potential trophy wife, and little more. To me, his actions make more sense when viewed through that angle.

To be fair man, Arthas became FAR more emo than Illidan could ever hope to be in wow. A spoiled brat with daddy issues, despite living a life of luxury where all his wants and needs were satisfied.
At least illidan had some semi-legitimate reasons for his angst (Unrequited love hurts like a #$%&)
Also, I feel compelled to drop the mandatory reminder that Illidan's role in Legion is as of yet undetermined. He could be an enemy, he could be an ally, he could probably end up being both (which would fit his character better). A wrathion-esque character that is neither friend nor foe.

Illidan is just as spoiled as Arthas, has brother issues to match Arthas, and was completely delusional multiple times; thought he beat Arthas and made the Illdari to conquer Azeroth when in reality he did it to protect himself from KJ, making the second Well because he refused to admit that it was a bad thing, betraying the allies because they weren't on their knees worshipping him. Yes, Arthas is bad too, but Illidan is just plain horrible.
Again, though, most vocal Illidan hater here, etc etc etc.

Doesn't stop one from trying, though now Mal and Ty are married...
Wanna Ship Illidan and Maiev? The huntress is nothing without the daemon jaeger. I'm onboard.

It's one thing to try...but when it's obvious to anyone with eyes(and this was before he gained the new orbs) that Tyrande was Mal's through and through, it just reeks of desperation.

A prince wanting to step away from his father's shadow and shine on his own merits has led to many disasters in fiction and in RL.

Thats more to Knaak not being subtle with characters. Making things that should not be seen, very obvious.Like Illidans path to darkness.

Even before the Knaak version of the War, since we know that Tyrande was with Malfurion and did not oppose the exile of Illidan, seems like her choice was made...but the fact that Illidan continued to think he had a chance, even after being locked up for 10 thousand years, shows that he can't just let it go. The guy is pathetic and not in a 'let's give him pity' way, he's just straight up pathetic and pretty much brought all of his bad luck down on himself due to his desire to be special.

OR bear with me: The guy just saw his crush disobey her boyfriend, and bust him out of prison, murdering several of her fellow elves in the process.
For someone who has an unrequited crush, those are some BIG mixed signals.

Considering she had been with his brother for 10 thousand years...you'd think he'd wake up to the fact that she made her choice.

Actually she was with him for a week, then malfurion went to sleep for 10k years and left her all alone.
Come on dude, mixed signals.
