And yes I know this is kind of another one
Why did you post it, then?

I knew this would be one of the first posts the difference with this one is you can't go to Google for the answers I'm just asking for thoughts.
Now you can ignore the topic and worry about the flaw of this (the contradiction) or just answer the questions and give your thoughts
I ask only because the answer you give is the same answer you seek.
At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want. -Lao Tzu

Well, I'm sure there have been some that have changed views on a particular subject through posting or reading the arguments. I think that is where the purpose lies. I don't think anyone posts a discussion or debate thread without the intent of changing views on the particular subject matter, unless it's being posted to bring the debates into a single place rather than being scattered throughout other threads: See Varian Thread.
The same thing happens in every thread because that's the nature of debate. There is no new evidence that can ever be brought to an argument of any kind. The evidence has always been there, it's just a matter of whether it's realized as evidence or not.
Back to changing views though: I know that in some of the threads I've read, there have been a few who have shown willingness to compromise on certain subjects instead of staying on a staunch path with their ideas. That shows change of some kind, thus giving purpose to the thread.
