Discipline can be easier for solo healing simply because we have better regenerative capabilities as our holy counterpart; along with 15% more intellect. For early on, disc will also offer you Meditation via the same tree, holy, on the other hand, has to spend at least 13 points for that vital talent outside.

Running out of mana is basically the only real problem I´ve had. What good does it to have fancy spells if you´re out of mana easily?
It think Holy will start to shine with better gear, but Discipline is easier early on and while levelling. While levelling, many tanks aren´t all that good. I tend to think that damage mitigation works better for that kind of tanks than raw healing until you´re OOM. Do you guys agree with this?

i have many friends who are holy priests. i managed to temp 3 of them to try discipline for heroics. they said they love it.
If your going OOM all the time i recommend going Discipline simply because the shields you can put out allow thinking time to react. Holy doesn't have that option and your constantly pumping out heals to match damage that is incoming. once you have around 17 - 18k mana and maybe 5 or 6 pieces of epicness, you can probably pug naxx as holy or discipline.

My roomate will tell you that maintaining def cap is harder as you start getting Nax gear. He seems to be having more trouble as he gets "better" gear. Lucky for him I can enchant his gear with def on priest and cut him def gems on my shaman. He sits at about 27k health and 541 Defense. They have to balance their Defense like DPS balance Hit and healers balance mana efficiency.
im having that problem with my DK naxx gear just offers avoidance and no def rating to compensate! its very tricky!

Holy definately has more mana issues than disc when you start running heroics. I was holy as soon as i hit 80, and it was tough at times, especially if the tank was a bit undergeared. I've heard that you can be quite comfortable with mana as disc as a fresh 80, so i would recommend it over holy to start with.
I would also say it's a bit more fun. Healing parties is easy as you can just shield everyone when you know there's raid damage coming, and use prayer of healing/holy nova. Prayer of mending is also very powerful in certain situations eg sapphiron when there's a lot of raid damage and it's not hitting everyone at the same time.

After a long time of not playing, I just healed Nexus with my 73 Holy Priest. With a good tank, Holy shines! What a lovely experience. There´s a spell for every situation.
Tank very much indeed defines how well the healing goes. Nobody can heal a group of players of the same level with a really bad tank whose health bar goes up and down with the very first trash. Remember that! Get out of the group if it barely clears the trash! The world needs good tanks! :-)
