As Enhancement, I pull incredibly high dps, I usually top DPS 10 mans and top 5, 25 mans.
We also bring totems, aka, raid buffs.

Pretty good dps as others mentioned..right now im looking at something along these lines.
37% melee dps
13% windfury dps
12% Lightning bolt
10% earthshock
9% stormstrike dps
assortment of stuff under 6%
spirit wolves are pumping like 650dps, max around 900dps in raids
fire elemental avg is like 700dps, max like 1100 on aoe fights
magma totem is around 500dps, more on aoe fights
You get diversity in dmg types for differing situations, add all our other utility, we become a jack of all trades. Like for Ignis, i pop chain heals off maelstorm procs after each flame vent knockback, same deal with CH for tantrums on XT. With dual spec, you can quickly hop over to resto for much needed healing pow pow. Good enough for top5 dps in most ulduar encounters if you really go after it (and i play on !@#$ty connection).
Plus the post office open all the time, always get mail drops.

An enhancement shaman offers alot of ultility.
Totems:
20% melee haste
195 strength and agility (about that much, maybe a bit less or more)
92 mp5 (same as blessing of wisdom)
185 spelldam/healing (about that much)
In addition, it offers the best on-use raid buff in the game, Bloodlust. That skill alone will get you a raid spot.

In terms of numbers relative to other classes checkout
wowmeters
for top end comparisons. Numbers definitely determined by type of fight so you cant just get a generalized number.
Like heroics in nax25 gear, 3kdps is easy to maintain, max'd out at like 4kdps for whole instance in H UK for instance. But really, all that is determined how much dps your grp pulls in with you, hp of the mobs, etc..
For pug'ing nax25/ulduar, i can maintain avg of 3.5k dps or so..what brings me down is trash normally...and certain boss'es like razorscale/ignis. Do very well (around 5kdps) on kologarn, XT, Freya, Auriaya.
Generally bad dps on mobs with low hp and single target dmg (i.e. your not gonna get much of rotation off b4 they die, so mainly doing pet dmg), requiring alot of movement (loss of rotation and magma totem dmg).
Single target is very competitive respective to other melee. Takes some practice with encounters to determine optimal time to drop fire elem pet over magma, cooldowns, etc.
